Mythologies, sagas, epics, the story that the world has forgotten but that actually happened back there, way back there. Yes, when cosmic voyages were already being made and glittering empires rose towards the heavens. State-of-the-art science and art. Unfortunately, wars too. All this transformed into grandiose musical shows that the Great Mother India knows how to perform like no one else.
Since childhood, I have been in love with India and its wonderful artists. India is mega and pluricultural. The beautiful wonderful, fantastic, real and mystical, the home of the beautiful Shary Gairola.
I am Brazilian, folklorist, journalist, writer, producer, coordinator and cultural researcher. I am passionate about popular cultures, folklore and contemporary arts from around the world.
Who would believe that this dance drama is almost 20 years old? It is still as fresh! Special props to all the children who didn't let their guard down despite the little audience engagement that the rains forced upon them. Sheela ji, Disney and other film companies should learn the art of dramatic presentation from you.
Disney already kinda did- check out their Broadway adaptation of their 1994 movie “The Lion King”. They use a lot of folk theatrics to bring the story to life- from large face masks to shadow puppetry, as well as creative choreography that represents different animal species. There are some similarities in the stories as well between Lion King and Ramayanam.
Its the 7th Avatar of God Vishnu , who takes birth as the first born son (King Rama)for the King Dhasharatha of Solar Dynasty to destroy an invincible king of present day Sri Lanka called Ravana who had 10 heads and twenty arms , a great devotee of God Shiva and had knowledge on all the arts and Scriptures and warfare . Ravana and his son even defeats king of Gods and take 9 planets under his control and start doing autocracies on Earth. With no options left , sages perform a yagna(fire sacrifice) called putra kamesti yaga for King Dasharatha to please Vishnu to be born as the first born King of solar Dynasty to destroy Ravana.
I am speechless - for the first time in my life!!! Superlative costumes, cute dancers, lovely songs and enchanting story telling! A more detailed comment will follow ASAP. Thank you. May you all be blessed for ever!
Shri Gurubhyo Namah. Dear Ma'am, I have been an ardent rasika of SDN for the past five years. As a bharatnatyam dancer myself, I have always admired the dancers of SDN for their perfection in araimandi, abhinaya and postures, brilliant stamina and extraordinary coordination. But, Balaramayanam was at a totally different level. I am mind-blown. I was glued to the screen for the total duration of the presentation. I am deeply moved. What a heavenly presentation! In trying times such as these, it helps restore one's faith in humanity. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to watch Balaramayanam. I hope I can watch you all live soon.
Rama: Tall, elegant, calm, a Sweet smile, less talk and more action!👍 Sita: So beautiful, so lovely and so lively. What a Serene expression in the faces of this godly couple! ❤️ One jump of viswamitra revealed the Identity. Who but HariNi Jeevitha can perform such a jump!?🦌 The three Queens looked royal and Regal. Very impressive.🌟 Sub juniors, juniors and seniors of the four brothers were well selected. Kaikeyi exhibited her skill in warfare and also her affection by shedding Ananda bhaashpam during the wedding. Lakshman was as handsome as Rama with the right shade of anger. Sanjana's viswaroopam made her look taller and slimmer. All children when came as kings for the swayamvaram seem to be good in performing comedy.👍 Maruti's eyes revealed her identity. Nerrators were busy from the beginning to the end. 💫 Thadagai was very impressive. I will watch it again on the big screen with my grandkids. Thank you for taking so much trouble for presenting a master piece
Such a detailed and accurate observation.. 💜💜👏👏👏 But i can't believe that you missed Ahalya..even her subtle expressions were elegant and her beauty is much enough to make Indra fall for her... Kudos molu.👍👍
@@Natyasala True!I could not sleep last night since I failed to mention the flower-like and sensitive Ahalya Devi in my comment. Her performance was so emotional and so sensitive.👍 She is also one of my favorites 😍
@@SheelaUnniSrideviNrithyalaya At times when I am writing the comments, someone or something may distract me. That is how I forgot to mention the pretty and sensitive portrayal of AhalyA Devi. Also it was time retire for the night. In the middle of the night I suddenly remembered this and felt very sad. She looked beautiful enough to attract Indra ( who has all the apsaras under his control) Thank you for making me feel a part of the SDN family.🙏🌹🙏
Wow .. wow.. wow.. Felt like some Murthies( statues) just came out from age old temples and performed this master piece. Big applause to the makeup and costumes team. And not to forget that stage lighting is on another level. For sure dancers might have skipped their meal just to practice this, so much of perfection in each and every movement. Last marriage scene literally brought heavenly Vibes. May be coincidence or well planned, the girl who played the role of Seeta got big attractive lotus eyes ( That's how scriptures described beauty of Seeta/Laxmi). Nearly 1.20 hours and worth watching. Thank you so much for this masterpiece ❤️❤️❤️
Supreme joy...pure nector..no words can describe this performance...surperb,marvellous,amazing,fabulous,brilliant,divine,....are you people from the heaven(Gandharvas)?? I cant trust that such performers exist in India.....you have become immortal with this performance...lots of blessings....
The dance, the music, the costumes, the jewelry , the Story, the music and the talented children will attract anyone and everyone. Please feel happy that your time was very well spent in watching this masterpiece.🙏
favourite dance drama! this inspired me so much! ❤️ i have been following Sridevi Nrityalaya for a long time and they have always motivated and inspired me so much 💜 lot's of love to SDN team... 🥰❤️
A big wow to Sita's eyes giving goosebumps @ 01:01:36 Harinie, not just your signature jump, you stole the scene yaar! What an expression @ 01:02:19 Kameshwari's expression @ 01:08:24 True that of Janaka! And, so-sweet of including the dhrishti kalippu as part of the dance sequence itself
It's the most beautiful dance drama I've ever seen, so accurate and expressions, pure nritya, talented dancers, wonderful choreography and hearttouching voice of all the singers, it was a bliss, Thank you SDN and Sheela mam 🙏🙏👌
I viewed this Dance drama one more time on the big screen yesterday before retiring to bed Now I was able to recognize each one of the Octets, after having watched their arangetrams. 👍 I also noticed two things which I have missed earlier. 1. King MahAbali was not killed but Lord Vishnu. God only subdued him to remove his Ego and Pride. Both the song and the dance mention MahAbali vadham. 2. In the weddings the bride sits or stands only on the right side of the groom. Hence the popular saying that A man should not give idam (his left side) to his wife. A very funny but meaningful pun.👍
Lo máximo que logré entender es que todo es uno solo! Que todo vibra. Que todo sigue un ritmo y que por lo tanto, no se puede escapar de él. Pero que si se puede elegir si se vibra a favor o en contra!
Came to rewatch this drama! It's my comfort dance show I feel. Vishwashree and Mrinalini's beautiful glance exchange is like seeing real Sita-Rama. Mrinalini's versatility is commendable- first Sita as a little girl, now Rama. She makes for a loveable, introverted, observant Rama, as the Great Lord must have been. Vishwashree's eyes are emotive and capable of melting her Rama into a puddle of love. Makeup artist Shobha ma'am should be applauded with standing ovation for the ability to make the best expressions stand out.
Krishna tu es le Bienheureux !!!! Tes danseuses inégalables !!! La beauté pure !!!!! Gloire à Krishna et à l Inde toute entière !!!! Les danseurs sont radieux et magnifiques !!!!!! 🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️🧚🏽♀️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🧚🏽♂️🌺🌺🌺🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
A Divine experience! Kudos to all the young performers. The entire staging, lighting, music and choreography were superb. Special congratulations to the performer who played Viswamitra, you commanded the show! All the characters were superbly performed. I watched this on the auspicious day itself and this performance evoked a strong sense of devotion and delight in me, I felt blessed. May Lord Rama shower his blessings on these wonderful youth carrying forward the best of our traditions!
All the very best to all the children dancing.....👍thankyou so much for uploading to see them dancing in thala, bhava where you make it perfect always....Thankyou 🙏🙏
My most favourite scene is Sita Rama Kalyanam, especially at 1:10:42 . What a spectacular and spell-bounding depiciton of this auspicious wedding scene. The costume, the bhaavam, the music mixing, the kolusu following the tempo and taalam of this beautiful rendition, the flute, the rituals.... i could go on and on. this made my day. Thank you so much Sridevi Nrithyalaya for this dance drama!!
Nandri, SDN. Repeated namaskaaras for this divine blessing. Watching this took me (probably all bhaktas) straight to Vaikuntham, where we are returned to being with our Amma and Appa, Sitaa-Raama. Paramaanandam. Each and every dancers is superb, and in their parts. The emotions including affection for family/teachers, the comedy and romance etc are all perfect. The music again is delightful, the sahityam too. This perfectly encapsulates the delightful Baalakaandam. Thank you for including our Appa Anjaneyar for an extra level of auspicious ending. (Who could find greater delight in witnessing Sitaa-Raama Kalyanaam than Sri Hanumaan? So he must have witnessed it.)
Lot to say about this dance drama, in short: "It is a mesmerizing contemporary Master Piece"". Covered major incidents of Ramayan. Excellent choreography & Screenplay. Each and every artist expressions are amazing, great Lyrics, excellent lighting, crisp audio, sense of dressing & Jewelry and finally videography captured glittering moments. Throughout the drama I loved artist Rama's calm & very pleasant eye catching expressions, ease of action from beginning till end & Amazing postures. The more I watch: I enjoy, Artist SitaDevi expressions, eye movements, her stills & long poses and cute expressions are superb. I loved Viswamitra's long creative act and SitaRam kalyanam part, NOT TO SAY that the LAST PUNCH of the drama brought to an end by Hanuman's entry & brief mention of SundaraKanda and superb action. Hanuman's entry at the end is very thoughtful. Audio, songs, singing, musicians, music and rhythm are SUPERB, SUPERB. I have to applaud the selection of artists impeccable and their performances are at peak .Every artist is a star of the drama. Very pleasant to watch again-N-again. I can't imagine how many weeks/months of the practice by everyone to deliver this MASTER PIECE in one shot on the stage. Let that Lord Parandhama bless every one who were part of this great dance drama. Look forward see more of this kind . God bless you all.
Wonderful production. These are some incredibly talented youngsters with a coach who has great integrity and vision (also didn’t know that Kaikeyi trained the boys in the art of weaponry- that’s pretty neat). I hope you could stage a production telling the second half of the story as well, where Rama actually completes his mission of defeating Ravana (unless you have already done so and haven’t made a video of it).
So amazing being able to watch the dancers, always the most ❤ beautiful choreography 😍, truly these younger dancers are getting the most rewarding experience. I am thankful SDN shares these videos and wishing all the dancers successful solos and group presentations. 🙏
The experience of watching this production is indescribable...it is of immense beauty and devotion that can't be put into words....every dancer, the music, the lighting, the choreography, costumes, props, the videography...everything had a divine touch and was just so asethetically appeasing.....from the Putra kameshti Yagam to the Kalyanam...everything was as if I were watching ramayanam come to real life...as if I were watching lord Rama and devi Seetha actually getting married...just a beautiful experience....thanks a lot for giving us the best treat ever Sheela Mam!
Wow awesome , wow , wow , what a spritualised song and dance i feel in tears while seeing this Balaramayam ...wow awesome what a expression what a body language ...marvellous costumes and everything is perfect ...no words to say what a choreography sheella mam ....awesome awesome awesome .... thankyou so much Sheella mam for sharing this with us ...love you Sheella mam and SDN always dancing is bliss...💖💖💖💖

I'm still in my thoughts...was it a dance drama...it was a huge gift for me at least, what...else I can say now...I'm not taking any names as it was more bright for me & more peaceful than a movie...just I will say one thing mam all my blessings are there for you, my bro sis & akkas...even I'm young to give blessings but just each and everything the light the music & everything just gave life to it!!...it's my first time to see everybody in one!!
How delightful ! Please also release the other thematic presentations on Rama aswell ! It's always a delight to see Shri Rama's life at the centre of a production
It's really wholesome. I really want to be part of such big dance dramas. But never got a chance. Hope I get it soon. My personal fav parts are the ahalya saba vimokshana and sita swayam varam.
Others have praised the dancing, costumes, presentation etc. in far better words than I could. Sheela ma'am, I was fascinated to see how you chose certain theatrical techniques from the Melattur/Bhagavata Mela style of drama in your production. Your dancers adapted well to this more dialogue-focused style of presenting abhinaya. I enjoyed how Mahabali entered behind the thirai (screen/veil held by two dancers) and how the dancer portraying Shukra simulated blowing out a lamp when the stage lights went down. There are so many intricate details to enjoy on rewatching. I must mention Bhairavi's wonderful portrayal as the stately king Dasaratha, and Harinie's incredible energy and and dynamism as Vashishta. But all your students danced wonderfully. Thanks again to you and your school for offering us this gift.
What a treat to the ears, eyes and to the soul. Such an absolutely beautiful presentation. Every aspect of Vishnu represented. Neatly including the avatharams,. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I bow to the entire team of SDN. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
