People were always way too harsh on Smash Mouth. They were total commercial pop rock, and I really don't care if that invalidates them from being considered cool or transgressive, boundary-pushing artists. I'm not saying they were a super great band, but they absolutely have their moments and a secure spot in music history. They brought a 60's throwback feel to late 90's pop rock that was refreshing and resulted in some solid tunes, especially Walkin on the Sun. They may be a joke, but hey, if your jokes are as catchy as their songs, I'd love to have you over for a laugh. A good song is a good song, regardless of whether you first heard it in a commercial for ring pops in 2006.
“Good song is a good song” agree 💯. Also, Ring Pop- underrated. The longevity of a jawbreaker without the chalky texture. Good flavour and convenient ergonomics- plus the royal swag of giant bling. I hope they haven’t shrunk those down. Walking on the sun is as good a pop song as any before it and better than many after. I hope you are well man. Praise Boognish!
When I saw this (it was only around 06:10 in Germany), I thought to myself, "What? What bullshit are you trying to pull on me? Steve Harwell dead? That can't be true!" But then I just had to check if it was true and I had to find out that it was the truth. Steve Harwell is unfortunately no longer among the living. That really sucks. Two songs by Smash Mouth were in my favorite movie when I was about 5 years old, All Stars and their rock version of I'm a Believer. That movie was Shrek. When the German dubbing actor of Donkey died in 2007, I was still 1 year old and didn't think anything of it. But nowadays, it really gets to me. For example, when a German dubbing artist, a German dubbing legend or a rock/metal legend dies, it takes me with it.
Thank you for this. I guess in North America we don’t realize that there are rubbing artists. Interesting. I’m sad to see him go. It’s weird when pieces of our childhood start to disappear
@@colinlamb Well that movie franchise was my fucking childhood, dude. If a dubbing actor dies or, in this case, the singer of a band that I grew up with, it fucking sucks ass, man. It just fucking sucks.
@@colinlamb Or Canada. Y'all are fucking watchin' the movies in the original language. We in Germany and/or Austria always gotta watch 'em with voice actors/ dubbing actors.
At forty three years old myself I have an idea what you mean about the nostalgia of music that may or may not have been good I was never a smash mouth fan particularly but being a shitty alcoholic I feel for the man personally I feel through intuition and as flaky as it sounds see in dreams that there is more after this than meets the eye Just hope he's possibly found peace Ten million fuckin sold and still angry on that level? I'm not really a really a prayerfully thinking guy usually but I hope he is like I said in some form of peace Also while that era of music been of pop or other wise had some genius shit there was also just shit 😆
Between a thumbnail that makes Steve Harwell look like he's lying dead on the street in the middle of the day to raising a toast to someone other than the recently deceased, I can't see how this video is respectful to Steve, his family and fans.
No idea what that has to do with my video. The screen cap of his face is from a music video and that shows what he looked like in their classic era. The respect I paid to his music is worth more than some cliche platitudes. Kinda weird cheersing a guy who died of liver failure maybe? Thanks for stopping by anyways but my channel just might not be for you. I wish you well.
