Baldur's Gate 3 didn't deserve GOTY?

BG3 and Divinity Original Sin are NOTHING alike, besides the fact that both are turn based. They're completely different games.

Spiderman 2 wasn't even in contention for the GOTY, almost every other game in the running was better then Spiderman 2, so even if Baldur's Gate 3 didn't win Spiderman 2 wasn't winning.

Im not an RPG fan generally but BG3 is an absolute masterpiece. My wife who isnt a gamer by any means is absolutely in love with. The level of depth, content, replayability, mechanics is just in a class of its own. Its pretty much a current gen mass effect done right.

Unpopular Opinion: Without the Spiderman brand, Spiderman 2 wouldn't even have been considered good enough to be nominated. It's too generic in too many ways.

I would argue otherwise on a couple of points: 1. Comparing Divinity to Baldurs Gate 3 and Spiderman to it's prequel. I would answer it with another question: how many games released in the past decade have been like Baldurs Gate 3 or Divinity in comparison to Spiderman? The answer found lies in it's saturation within the industry. If there weren't a lot of game in the past decade where you sling around a city fighting bad guys with the right amount of action and a decently compelling story, then sure, I could see Spiderman winning. But.....there are a lot of those games within the past decade, like...A LOT. Where as there aren't a lot of games that replicate DnD and translate it well to an actual game with the same mechanics (almost) one to one. Divinity isn't even that. DnD is gigantic market, Divinity does not fill the facet of playing DnD. If you wanted to play a game like Spiderman, you really could, the main difference would be that it's not Spiderman himself. The saturation of the playstyle within the industry is a large factor to a games success in general. 2. Act II and III still rounded out as a complete story in spite of not being as polished as Act I. A game having patches to fix issues within does not always directly correlate to the quality of the game at all, and in this case it doesn't really. You are getting the complete 60 hour package, that people are still debating whether it is actually 60 hours. It is not Cyberpunk where the game was physically unplayable for a portion of the player base on launch, of which, once the issues were fixed, it still turned out a good game. 3. The bugs in the game do not make Baldur's Gate 3 longer, restarting your run does, but iirc that is generally not taken into account with average playtime (like adding 10 hours of extra play time), insinuating that it does is a stretch. The average playtime for Spiderman 2 is 20 hours. And according to the source (of simply looking it up), that's highballing the playtime. The average for Baldurs Gate 3 is 60+ ( you can also look this up, takes less than a minute), you said it yourself that act I in itself is 10-20 hours, one third of the game is already comparable to Spiderman 2's total playtime. To say the playtime is comparable between the 2 games I would debate is disingenuous at worst and ignorant/unaware at best.

Act 2 and Act 3 is functioning perfectly fine. Spider man and bg3 is just different types of game. Furthermore making a tabletop into a beautiful coop game is the first who achieved it

There is so much to unpack here. First, you really should finish the games before you decide which is better. Second, the problems with bg3 were insanely overstated. Yes there were and are bugs in yhe game, I have encountered many of them but the small moments of annoyance from the bugs are really a drop in the ocean as the rest of the game is absolutely incredible. The bugs in act 2 and 3 really don't bring the game down so that we should only consider the first Act. Third, even if you don't like the story telling of bg3 (which you are definitely in the minority) then there are so many other things that the game does well to consider. There's a big cast of very well written characters, voiced by some amazing actors (astarians voice actor definitely deserved the award as well), the gameplay is an amazing recreation of the dungeons and dragons experience, which has been enjoyed for decades, the world is huge and interconnected, the music is great and so on and so on. There was really no chance that bg3 wasnt going to win, it is leaps and bounds ahead of the gaming industry today. Sidenote, even other game devs have said that bg3 is so good that its going to set players expectations higher but other studios can't deliver such good games 😂

does spiderman two have karlach, if no then BG3 is better if yes then stop lying to yourself and accept bg3 is a better game

I hated divinity 2 tbh, I wasn't sure about bg3 untill i played it. I already have 511h in bg3, never had any bug/glitch that would prevent me from going forward and in each of my playthrough I can find so many things , places and dialogs i have never seen before! When it comes to the spiderman 2 it was nothing special to me, never finished it and im not comming back. Oh i forgot to mention that baldur aslo has coop up to 4 players or 2 players on one device, which makes it ever more fun and worth more time to spend on it. When it comes to the act 2 and 3, act 2 is and was perfectly fine, act 3 had some problems, but they added a lot of content like withers party as an update, not DLC that is crazy to me, the amount of hours spend to add it to the game must have been crazy, so many paths everyone could've gone ,so many dialogs to record. Withers party is not long for players, but due to so many endings of every character they must have recorded a lot of dialogs.

I just started DOS2 after my fifth playthrough of BG3. The games are very very different.

I still think Spider-man 2 was in no way going to win game of the year, game is too short and doesn't take any risks. Alan Wake deserved it more

Spiderman 2 felt like an incredible game but also felt very much like it's something we've seen many times before. baldur's gate 3 felt refreshing, i've played divinity 2 multiple times and in my honest opinion it feels completely different and way way way better than anything like divinity 2. In short spiderman 2 is great, but baldur's gate 3 is amazing

Your right as much as anybody else, goty its the game you consider its deserving to it, theres no right or wrong, that said, to make an impossible comparicion between these 2 that dont have nothing in common, ill advice you play both first cause for SM2 all of the arguments are yours while for BG3 all of it its an idea you have made base on what you have read.
