This is actually the perfect tragic ending if you choose to make SH a DJ. The Nightsong tells SH that if she becomes a DJ, she will never know joy or love, only loss, and that there will be a blood price that will extend beyond the NS's own death. SH being left all alone watching the last of her friends die fits so perfectly with those lines.
@@szychigo4170 maybe I told her something wrong then, since I was being too nice to her and told her it was okay to leave. I think I had an option to tell her that I wanted to stay. No dice roll options though. I did have her go the good route, and it looked like we had romanced her completely. We did run into a lot of bugs through our playthrough, so maybe that was another one.
I also killed myself off at the end of my first run. I felt like it would be near impossible to resist the influence of the mindflayers and even if I could I would lose my humanity over time. I played dark urge as a good guy and decided that my character was tired of being controlled by forces greater than himself.
Imo The only way you can retain yourself after becoming a mind flayer is if your ate orpheus and gained his powers or eating the emperor after he ate orpheus
@@sakxis1502 iirc, omeluum, the other mind flayer, manages to function autonomously even without the ring because he said he has innate arcane abilities, something that is unique among mind flayers. that means he is a sorcerer, which is incidentally, the default class of the dark urge. so if you're a default dark urge, you have a higher chance of being independent. there's certainly a risk but if you're a good path DU, you have already have plenty of experience in resisting compulsion. so in summary, default sorc good aligned DU would probably be the most capable of being a mind flayer
Weirdly enough there is no influence, it's not really you anymore. When you turn into a mindflayer it is basically the evolved tadpole that has your memories and thus, if you are free from the influence of a elderbrain, influences the mindflayers personality. + It is kinda a twisted ending most people don't see really, it's not their character anymore.
This was my end as well, could not bear to be a mind flayer so I took my own life. Wyll was freed from his pact and got his father back. Orpheus was freed and Lae zel went with her people atop her new dragon. Everyone got a happy ending, except me. Tragic 😥
My ending was simillar but spinned around. I had to execute Orpheus because I refused to be a mindflayer so he sacrificed himself, Gale blew up the brain because he wanted to make up to Mystra and Karlach had a simillar ending but because she was my romance the scene felt much more close to heart and she was much more content with what was coming cos I was next to her (also there was the awesome song "I want to live"playing in the background...honestly the scene without it feels kinda dry). So essentially his closest friends all leave in some form (I was a bard and my team was mostly Laezel, Karlach and Gale/Shadowheart for most of the game). Now my bard has a long tragic tale to write and sing about the heroes who sacrificed themselves for Baldur's Gate.
There's not really a point in mindflayer tav killing themsleves tbh cuz real tav they died the moment they transformed. Might as well make the most of yourself and go kill demons in avernus or something lol
it's honestly wild that githyanki are the least played race for custom origins; they're definitely the best choice in terms of narrative impact when it comes to the main story - not to mention their proficiencies and skills which make for some of the most versatile builds in the entire game.
It's all down to the aesthetic. As much as githyanki gives powerful benefits to a player character, most people cant naturally get into playing a greenish-yellow alien with no nose.
I recently started RPing a "Rogue, mystic, elemental monk". He avoids unnecessary and has deep interest in other races' culture, which also suits to monk personality in the game. Along with Lae'zel romance, as her more sensible counterpart, the journey is so much fun. Initially, as a DnD player for some time, I was very distant to the Gith. Orpheus legend, Vlaakith heresy, astral wars etc. peaked my interest vastly .
Being a Gith DU changes this scene: your character revels in the fact that for once you’re killing only for yourself, not Bhaal. You disembowel yourself and slump over. Karlach also had a unique line I didn’t see here: “You won’t be alone, soldier.” Before she also died.
The Karlach endings are so cruel. There were so many different ways Larian could have let you save her, there's even an item called enriched infernal iron which supposedly is capable of making a stable heart, not to mention spells like resurrection, true resurrection, divine favor, and even wish existing. Yet the only endings are her dying (either through burning or ceremorphosis which kills your soul and replaces your mind), or getting sent back to Avernus (which she says is worse than death). I love BG3, but it really feels like Larian dropped the ball on her ending. I just hope it's Larian setting us up for an Avernus DLC where we solve it.
In my playthrough, Wyll and Karlach went to hunt together in Avernus... so I don't think she had that bad of an ending, just depends on your choices. Wyll then became the Blade of Avernus.
Apparently data miners found cut Avernus and upper city content where we could actually fix Karlach. Can only hope like you said it gets added as DLC or new content in the definitive edition.
To me the Karlach endings have such a Planescape: Torment vibe and I love them - what I resent is that it should have been made clear that they had tried *everything* to make her engine work. Not just some random Tiefling blacksmith.
In one of my campaigns as my Lathander Life Cleric i got infected by a mindflayer and played my character as afraid but accepting of their inevitable transformation. But instead of losing my PC forever my dm allowed me to play my cleric but she was constantly fighting the influence of an elderbrain keeping to her faith in Lathander. When i reached level 12 with her and the party couldnt find a cure the dm decided to bring in divine intervention via the domain of Lathander being Rebirth. We kind of stopped there and im still waiting to see what my dm comes up with.
Youve no druid in your party? Like last time we had one infected we killed him and then reincarnated him with a druid, i think we destroyed some plot points of our dm that session but oh well he had fun too i hope xD
It's a great callback to if she kills the Nightsong and becomes a Dark Justiciar. The Nightsong told her she'd never know joy or love, only loss, and in the end, there would be a blood price that would extend from then on. If I ever decide to make SH a DJ, I'm gonna do this ending.
For my playthrough, I continued my wood elf character from Neverwinter Nights 2. Which made getting this ending all the more tragic… And it was so amazing to see how his unique story added onto the ultimate decision to show he was more than what the Githyanki made him out to be, but also carrying out the hope that Vlaakith will one day be truly killed for her crimes against the Sword Coast and your friends & family. The Silver Sword laid to rest, and having become ilithid, Alsmen Blackwell takes a dagger and kills himself. It’s a tragic end to my beloved character. But then following it up, Karlach dies as well. Tragic. For me, my ending was thematically the most appropriate for my character. Having saved the sword coast so many times, now leaving the job of killing the Lich Queen to the very Githyanki people who sought to slaughter you and your family those many years ago on that fateful day in West Harbor. Ironic how her own people now seek her death, and a very satisfying irony for you at that. You are no longer demonized as the shard bearer, or Kalach’cha. To them, you are now a hero. Your sacrifice echoed throughout the realms. This is exactly what I hoped Baldurs Gate 3 would be as a DND game. As a sequel to BG1&2, it is amazing, and a continuation of Neverwinter Nights 2 for me, it is incredible. I would never trade this game for anything else in the world. Thank you Larian.
That doesn't really make sense, aside canonically NWN 2 events take place during 3.5 edition and before spellplague. NWN 2 PC is epic level (MoTB continuation of base game PC story) character with cap being level 35, assuming your character would be alive they would be pretty much high tier demigod by the end of MOTB (if your character masters curse then pretty much powerful diety since they're capable of taking down multiple gods in battle). There is no way they would end up captured by Ilihthids while the most powerful being in Baldur's gate story is Elminster which caps at level 20 (and vast majority of things that game throws at you caps at level 12, including mind flyers) and level 17-20 characters are pretty much described in Dungeon Master guide E5 as characters capable of dealing with threats not to material plane but also beyond. Essentially anything that's in that game would be be stomped by Epic level character 30+. Aside from that your character would be a world wide known legend greater than Minsc and Jaheira that stopped not only King of Shadows but also ended divine curse and being born out of that curse that terrorized material plane and yet none of characters recognize that character.
@@nagatouzumaki3492 it’s a rather benign issue, don’t you think? It’s DND. People can write whatever stories they want, and that shouldn’t gate-keep somebody from continuing a story that they made for themselves. Even if it’s in a video game. It doesn’t need to make sense mechanically that the character is level 30 in Neverwinter Nights 2. Baldur‘s Gate doesn’t follow the same rule sets anyways. If it’s a story you want to continue, and the narrative serves its purpose I see no problem. That’s the beauty of roleplay. You could bring in your character from Skyrim, or a character from your imagination. Mine just happened to be one from my previous game, as he lived in Baldurs Gate for 20 years after being banished from Neverwinter by Hugo Babris around 1451 DR. Since official lore is murky during that time I can make my own story for In with that timeline. And because he is a wood elf, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he is still alive in BG3. As I said, it’s a benign issue. You could even come up with a story that a kangaroo was transformed into a human and that would still serve its narrative purpose (kangaroo story was actually from a member of Reddit)
@@gabrielcaro Hardly, it's a massive issue as it doesn't align with already written story or lore for existing story. You're not playing tabletop RPG where your DM may made up home-brew story as he pleases or make additions to existing story. You're playing a video game with existing story and lore and more specifically trying to reconcile and establish continuity between 2 video games with existing stories and lore and 2 protagonists of those games. Levels don't serve as merely a mechanic either in D&D lore. Levels represent your place on power scale as established guidebooks which go into specific what level ranges for character represent in scaling against certain level of threats and feats. Epic levels go beyond even that power scaling (which at level 17 already involves dealing with threats capable of destroying material plane or other planes and NWN 2 goes up twice of that level). So within established story and lore, you're confined to established rules and lore of that setting otherwise story you're making is nonsensical and purely made up bs that has no justification in lore and franchise. So even if your character was banished willingly from Nevewinter that still does nothing to address lore and logical issues that I brought up with Idea that 30+ level epic character ends up in situation that of Baldur's Gate 3 protagonist ends. As Abed Nadir from Community tv show said: "I owe you nothing. I'm a dungeon master, I create boundless world and bind it by rules. Too heavy for the bridge? It breaks. Get hit? Take damage. Spend an hour in front of someone's door fighting over who gets to kill them? He leaves through the back.". That's proper dming in D&D and in video game there is no DM or more developers were DMs that pre-set story for you and lore was taken from D&D. Story has to be coherent within set setting, plot and lore. Even if you tried to pull it off in D&D game any good dm would block your epic level character from being implemented for low adventure level story as your character would be too OP to fit into it and even end up as.
If emps didnt throw a tantrum like a toddler he could of been known as the mindflayer who defied the elder brain. (God I hope there is a cut and or bugged diologue option in there. His logic wasn't sound and made 0 sense if you agreed to become a mindflayer before freeing the prince.)
I would have chosen the second option for the mind flayer. Ready to end my own life at even the slightest loss of control, but trusting myself to survive and retain who I was before.
did that in my first playthrough, that and freeing wyll from his contract and saving his father allows you to convince karlach to go to avernus with you, fighting against zariels hordes together. definitely a better ending than her dying
@@Tyrantlizard127 elsewhere. You can only free him in act 3. if you choose to disable the steel watch and infiltrate the facility, you‘ll learn that the gondians are being kept enslaved because their families are being kept in an underwater prison. With a bit more infiltration you‘ll find the location, you make your way to an underground area and take a submarine to get to the prison. thats where gortash keep both the gondians and ravenguard
Right? That's what i thought too. I'm almost sorry for her the most because she's the one who has to live with seeing 2 of her friends die like that...
Hum how do i put it for you .... Ceremorphosis obliterates the soul of the host, it's not karlach anymore, but the mindflayer with her memory, and by doing so, Karlach don't even have the luxury to go to the afterlife, she is gone forever
There are no happy endings, but this one is probably the most positive one overall. You already gave your life when Orpheus was freed and you volunteered, and did so doing something that matters: saving the world and the Githyanki race. Here you're just finishing the job from beyond the grave with what little power you are able to cling to.
@@rebecagarcianunez3017 In that ending Karlach is dead. There's a mind flayer that exists with her memories and maybe some of her personality (for now) but Karlach herself is dead.
@@Potte No, in my game she is alive. She became a mind flayer, the infernal engine gone in the conversion so she will never burn up and die, but she can never be a tiefling again.
@@rebecagarcianunez3017the post credit cutscene suggests that people lose their souls when they become Ilithid. When Karlach transforms, the person we knew throughout the story disappears forever, and an identical consciousness replaces it. The best ending in my opinion is freeing Orpheus and turning him into a mind flayer. I never cared for the emperor, and when I freed Orpheus, the emperor immediately sided with the brain, so yeah, no sympathy from me. Laezel takes Orpheus’s place, promises to free the Githyankis, and he dies an honorable death after being imprisoned for so long. Karlach goes to Avernus with Wyll by her side and finally not alone anymore. Asterion goes back to hiding in the shadows away from the sun, but this time with his inner conflicts resolved and Cazador no longer hunting him. Gale goes off in search of Elminster. If you romance Shadowheart then you spend the rest of your peaceful days living with her, and the rest of the companions celebrate with you then go off and do their own things. Perfect ending, except for the emperor
I got this ending and it was so bittersweet. Hearing shadowheart scream in dismay that she can’t stop you, you didn’t even say goodbye. 😢 was a bit underwhelming to love this game so much and feel a bit cheated by this ending. I thought my character would at least say goodbye.
I got this end as well. It broke my heart seeing Laezel leave, I romanced her. On the scene where you have to choose who will turn, it was me or Orpheus. I felt really badmaking him turn, since he is the face of new hope of their people. I knew Laezel would not continue with me transformed. Her look at the end ma de me cry so much.... The price of sacrifice is really terrible sometimes.
I didn’t know Lae Zel would go along with Orphreus, I killed her in my play through lmao. My head cannon is that I went to go talk to Ormelleum, stuck around the city a little and then possibly went to the under dark to reside
I didn't have Wyll but I did have Karlach so I made her become the MF so she didn't die and would be a hero. Something funny is that for final fight I took Shadowhearts armor to give to another character and when the final cut scenes were happening she was naked lol. Luckily for her in mine she was with friends and we were going to get F'ked up. Aside for Astarion who couldn't be out in the sun because I killed all the vampires and didn't let him ascend.
For me? I didn't kill myself and was romancing Shadowheart. I only turned myself into a Ghaik, so my friend could get the achievement. Told Shadowheart, "I will respect her wishes." He got a good ending, and I got an ending of heartbreak. It totally sucked
I made Orpheus become a Mind Flayer, seemed like the best ending. A person who lived as a myth and even in secret. Held in a prism for 100s of years. He truly had little to live for other than reclaim his throne, but LZ could lead that charge... her destiny. SH throws away the Shar, Wyll is redeemed and Karlach goes back to the hells with Wyll. Mean while SH and I roam the world and Gale searches for the crown to become a god. Astorian probably the least happy, he gets his freedom but is forced back into the shadows again. Orpheus is still a mindflayer in my playthrough, I told him not to take his life and watch his people regain his freedom will make him proud. I'm pretty much 100% happy with my ending, Astorian I wish I could have done a bit better but I could sacrifice all those people/vampires to make him ascend.
I had a similar ending with a few changes, notably I honored Orpheus's request that I take his life after the brain was defeated and The Grand Design ended. I had staked Astarion when he tried to bite me since it happened during my first long rest, and Gale had determined to go to the underdark and kill himself so the crown was left at the bottom of the ocean since I had stolen the hammer (and everything else I could) from Raphael's House of Hope. Then Shadowheart and I settled down not too far from her parents fo us to make our own family together. My character was a Wood Elf. He was a Thief Rogue 4/Beast Master Ranger 8. I imagine my character being quite proactive in getting pets for our home, especially those of a more exotic persuasion. We kept Scratch and the Owlbear
My wizard's list of backup plans and backups to those backup plans would easily get through this conundrum. There is a spell and magic item for everything, including localized time magic, memory crystals, and even a contingency spell for chaining spells together in rapid succession.
I was really dissapointed in Orpheus. He was talked up to be this comet riding god prince but once he joins your party he is just a monk and not powerful really at all compared to anyone in my group. Just feels like a missed story point or something. He was talked up to be this super power that can END the elderbrain and the god queen Vlaakis......ya know the same god queen that can wish spell your entire party dead (when you select the talking path to do it lol). So yeah that part was really jarring to me, feeling like I was about to set lose this god prince that will destroy the grand design and hes just a monk lol.
It's just a gameplay thing... Just like Jaheira and Halsin are weaker when they're NPCs, and Minsk has completely different stats... They just don't want you to have a level 20 DMPC in your party for the final boss fight...
That’s how legends are in real life tho. Mostly amped up myth. The reality is the legend is always just some normal dude doing something amazing but they aren’t actually special. You really don’t think the githyanki, considering how they talk and behave, don’t do that too?
couldnt be me. I cucked the shit out of orpheus. Made him become a mind flayer, asked me to give him an honorable end; I said no, then he asked Laezel to go with her people to free the Gith; I also said no. He complained then killed himself while everyone went to party
Orpheus will note that an Illithid ally is unorthodox, but you're not unwanted. After summoning the dragons and Laezel holding out her hand to help you up, He announces a time for a new future before the scene ends with the lingering backshot of your companions watching you fly off.
The endings of this game are just awful. "What I get to invest 100 to 120 hours in this story only for it all to end in abject misery? I can't wait!" 😞
