I really enjoyed an almost pure thief, crit focused, with a single level into warlock, great old one. One of the strongest builds I've played. Rogues don't get nearly the love they deserve, because they can't stack multi hit like most other martial classes. Sneak attack can be brutal if you spend some time building around it. As for races, you didn't mention deep gnome. They're ridiculously good for any stealth focused build.

Really enjoying these build vids, keep them coming! Would also love to see you work through a non spoiler combat encounter and talk through your strategy with group dynamics in mind and what sort of things work well together.

kinda sucks that every rogue build is just sit far away and snipe people. I want to get all stabby stabby while sneaking, sniping people is for the rangers.

It's still possible to get sneak attacks in melee, just harder to get advantage unless you're using risky ring or gloves of the automaton.

Agreed
@xDaPrincex

But couldn't you put points in strength so that your melee attacks can be better & that once you attack you would then be able to hide?
@Crozyn
@Crozyn 7 месяцев назад
You don't need strength for finesse weapons, they can use dexterity instead. You could use the deathstalker cloak for invisibility after a melee kill to hide.@@xDaPrincex

@@Crozyn I ended up finding that out later. Seen it at the customization screen earlier when I bought it & played for the first time.

I did a Ranger Gloomstalker to lvl 5 and Rogue Thief. With the extra attack from Ranger class and a haste potion, he just became a fucking turret lol Didn't need to move or hide, just auto attack every round and this was on Tactician. Plus got gloves that added the dex modifier as damage to offhand, so the damage was the same for both hands. It's marvelous and broken
@misterr3653
@misterr3653 Год назад
Gloomstalker is a great multiclass choice, but you lose at least one ASI
@GreyWarden00
@GreyWarden00 Год назад
@@misterr3653 at where I was with damage, missing the ASI wasn't that much of a big deal. You plow through fights by the time you get to the city even on tactician

doesn't seem like a thief if you''re using ranger abilities though

If you had a 75% chance to hit, why would you waste an entire action hiding, instead of simply making two attacks?
@Crozyn
@Crozyn 9 месяцев назад
You would hide for numerous reasons. For one, it fits the playstyle of a stealthy rogue character. Two, it's only a bonus action, which you have two of them cause rogue. And three, an easy way to get advantage which will make that 75% chance to hit a lot easier.
@jackwhitehead3074
@jackwhitehead3074 9 месяцев назад
@@Crozyn in that situation, hiding gives you a 95%+ chance to hit, once. Using that bonus action to offhand attack gives you 2x 75% chances to hit, which has the same chance to hit once as the first option, but has the potential to hit twice. As you already had sneak attack eligibility the advantage wasn't needed
@Crozyn
@Crozyn 9 месяцев назад
Even if you already used sneak attack and use hide at the end, it keeps you hidden so the enemy AI can't target you. It's helpful for rogues as they aren't the best damage takers. With advantage you have higher crit chance as well, not just hit chance.
@jackwhitehead3074

@@Crozyn actually the enemies will actively try to find you too. And uh, rogues are actually some of the best damage takers in the game. Their high Dex and the availability of armours for them in this game let's them match or exceed the AC of the martials, combined with excellent saves and uncanny doge and evasion they're one of the tankiest classes in the game.
@Crozyn
@Crozyn 9 месяцев назад
Even if their armour class can be high, other than the dodge, they don’t get many defensive abilities at all. So I really wouldn’t call them tanky when so many other classes have way better abilities. You can easily make any character have decent armour class.

Just take fighter at level 12...Then you get fighting style, armor and weapons proficiencies and a heal. better than the single feat
@Crozyn
@Crozyn 11 месяцев назад
It's alright for medium armour, but moderately armoured grants an additional dex point you wouldn't have. The heal won't do much for a rogue who hides and if you want weapon proficiency, you could get that with weapon master feat plus get a point in dex. It's probably better to go into 5 points of a multiclass such as gloomstalker ranger if you're giving up feats.

Advantage of 12 rogue is getting all feat and sneak attack dmg right?

@@Crozyn ah ok I didnt realize that passive do matters. But multi-classing produces more dmg per turn overall right? I like sneak attack though
@Crozyn
@Crozyn 10 месяцев назад
Depends on the build, but for a sneaky character, a minimum of gloomstalker 5 would get you the extra attack which will produce more overall damage per turn. I think if you go gloomstalker first, you should get medium armour proficiency too. Pure rogue is just simple and still effective for a non-multiclass option.

@@Crozyn yeah I agree. Also pure rogue seems in line with the original concept of the Astarion too. Thanks!
