Half-Orcs are admittedly not the most popular race but they do have their own charm and are almost unrivalled in terms of martial prowess. Do you plan on playing a Half-Orc?
Personally, cannot WAIT for half-orcs to be added to the game. They are such an interesting race, and it will be really neat to see how we can interact with all the goblins.
Half-Orcs are not usually my go to but I do find them pretty cool and I do think a Half-Orc Barbarian is definitely something I would consider playing as in if you play a Barbarian, might as well be a half-orc one; really hope more buff bodies get added for just such a purpose. Nice video as always.
I played a female half orc noble that had a human family that didn’t fully accept her due to her mother being captured and forced marriage. Her father and mother were killed In a Gnoll attack. She found her mother family afterwards. It’s was fun role playing her.
Half-orc is literally my favorite race in DnD. I almost exclusively play them and my friends do find it quite annoying. But I cant help it, they're lore is so appealing. I've always been drawn to the monstrous races in any game. Plus cutting down swaths of enemies in a rage feels so good from a rp standpoint. I've even dabbled in more learned half-orc wizards and clerics.
My last campaign saw me playing my most favourite character yet: a half-orc/half-halfling paladin of Death. I mean, most everything about her appearance was MAF: grey skin, red hair, battleaxe and shield, black cloak over battered chain over black robes, a skull helmet, black stallion with white skull-like markings on it's face... except she was 4'10", talked like Sam Gamgee, her kit was her temple robes and whatever battlefield salvage she could pick up because no-one in the Shire knew how to make armour, and her battleaxe was made out of a broken shovel she'd once used to dig graves (named Gravedigger). Her Death worship was more the "gentle repose" type, though she was unforgiving against undead... a point of contention with our Hexblade. As for her peculiar heritage, let's just say she got her half-orc blood the old First Edition way, back when orcs were bad guys: she never knew her sire and was brought up a proper Shire halfling
I always love making the scholarly or charismatic orc/half orc to go against the old barbarian brute token character type n I plan on doing so in Gate 3 once they release the race
I don't know if I'll ever play a barbarian, but if I do a half-orc seems like a natural choice. Nice to know there's more to them than just "big and green".
I am looking forward to playing a Half-Orc character! Chances are good that I'll play as a Barbarian first, but later I may give a go at playing a Half-Orc Ranger or maybe even a Rogue. Not because I think that they'd be super dextrous but because I'd like to take advantage of the possible sneak attack damage or multiple attacks that those classes provide. I have fond memories of playing a Half-Orc Rogue and sneak attacking enemies with massive weapons for incredible damage in the past. I'd love to do it again! :)
I have always loved Half-Orcs. I play them pretty often. In a Pathfinder game I am currently playing I am playing a Half-Orc Bloodrager (Barbarian/Sorcerer hybrid class). I Stopped playing the Balder's Gate 3 early access very early on as I don't want too many spoilers and I have been waiting for Half-Orcs.
In Pen & Paper D&D. The Dungeon Master would play a Half-Orc Cleric Assassin. A mix between 2nd & 3rd edition rules. So he added his old character to the Party of 5. 6 total with hand drawn grid paper maps and thousands of miniatures from his collection. Astonishing he was able to keep this up with so much activity in a game that lasted 6 months every weekend. Game ended at Lvl 12. Best role playing experience ever while living in the army barracks.
I've always loved playing orc races when possible so nedless to say im really excited about playing a half-orc. Im planning on doing a dark urge oath of devotion paladin (half-orc) that tries to resist the urges but sometimes they get the better of him. My end game is to play an Oathbreaker withouth neceseraly going evil and withouth fully commiting to the urge but instead being constantly struggling with it.
I’m one of those people that enjoys playing a human that’s similar to myself in ways, but if I really had to choose any fantasy race to play as it’d be half-orc or a hobgoblin for sure.
I have hardly any experience with DnD or BG, but this race speaks to me very loudly. Now only the class remains uncertain, but I wonder if a half-orc druid is feasible.
I shifted Rhont in the Out of the Abyss published campaign to be a half-orog. Explains why he would have the gall to venture into the underdark and also how he has made it as far as he has.
I fell in love with playing Half-Orc Ranger wielding a Greatsword/Compound bow in Pathfinder, haven't had a chance to run that in 5e yet. Oh I took human as my favored enemy and could one shot pretty consistently for the initial engagements especially in my favored terrain.
In every version od dnd as it starts since 3rd when only core races existed i went half orc first then dragon born since 4th when just base book is out i always loved half orcs and playing a half orc barbar or a pali is my plan
Hyped for the Half-Orc introduction in BG3, definitely plan to play the classic Half-Orc, Berserker, Barbarian for my first playthrough. Though, I got to admit that playing a Half-Orc Paladin is also pretty tempting to.
I only ever play Half-Orcs and Drow, sometimes Dragonborn, but Half-Orcs are my go to, Idc they are my favorite, I have played many different classes with them, enjoyed them all.
thinking about the nature of the orks as conquerers and warrior tribes, as well as their physical appearance and them being considered monsters and not allowed in cities generally, I cant imagine most half orcs result from "consentual" relationships. If the mother was taken on a raid and then integrated into orc society, much like someone like Cynthia Ann Parker, that certainly makes for an interesting identity. Especially if she, like Cynthia, then voluntarily stayed and adopted their customs. On the other hand, if it is the result of a city raid and after the city is sacked, it is rebuild, that becomes even more interesting. Then, your identity is a permanent mark of shame, and a reminder, that within you flows the blood of the enemies of your people. After such a traumatic event, I wonder how the other townsfolk would react? And how would you perceive your orkish half? Would you maybe hate them even more? Would you maybe act even more stereotypically "human" to better fit in and show that you are indeed not orkish? That might also make for an interesting character, the muskely half ork, but in flamboyant clothes, or with a suit and a monocle, and as a bard or noble, not a warrior. Or maybe as a professional ork hunter, living both outside of mankind and orkkind, collecting skalps as a ranger
of course, you could also have a half orc mother, though I would assume that is less common (especially since orcs are portrayed as stereotypically masculine, as a whole, even the women). Maybe if your dad is a bard...
I've been wanting to play a half-orc since the game released into early access. I'll probably go the path of the life cleric. I like the combo of fighter/cleric and life clerics give you that front line fighter feel. ....who the hell am I kidding? I'm going to play a barbarian as my first playthrough as a half-orc. I'd love to play cleric, but c'mon a two handed flaming sword AND tusks?!! Yep.
I didn't know what bonuses HO had in 5e, but after watching the video, i just can't wait to play a martial class half-orc. Barbarian is my favorite class so far in EA, but neither humans nor dwarves are a good candidates IMHO. Humans have a terrible stat bonus and no Darkvision and there are a lot of fights in the dark areas. Dwarves have the best stat spread, but they are slow and aesthetically not fitting for the whole reckless playstyle thing. In my head-canon dwarves fight in tight formations with a shield wall, clad in metal, hence the whole Dwarven Defender prestige class in 3e.
I mean: If there is any fantasy trope (maybe not so much in DnD) , apart from elves, then it has to be the Dwarf Berserker: A raging, nigh invulnerable, hulk of destruction, on the path of the YOLO. From Heroes of Might and Magic to the Warhammer universe, with its book of grudges, they truly show the world what Dwarven anger management looks like.^^ In BG2, Korgan Bloodaxe was by far the strongest striker; only that Berserker back in the days of 2E was a Fighter sub class.
@@Badbentham I was talking about my personal impression about the race not trying to imply that my opinion is the only correct one. I know that in Warhammer fantasy there are Slayers (half-naked dwarven berserkers) but the bulk of a dwarven melee troops is a shielded&armored infantry. The same goes for the Heroes of M&M, Fortress faction (dwarves) has a unit of Brawlers, but the rest are mosty defensive units.
First, are there links for the art? Especially the first piece? Half orcs are always my very favourite races. I generally just love orcs, but I find any mixed race races (half orcs, half elves, the earlier editions superior take on tieflings, etc) have a charm all their own, and it's all the stronger with half-orcs. A pull between the races they're born from, a duality of character which is interesting to explore. A good half my characters end up being half orcs, played them from paladins struggling with their violent tendencies, to mercenaries quite proud of both heritages, to 'runt' orc raised rogues used to using their smarts to beat stronger full blooded orcs, to fighter/wizard orcs ussing scarrification as their spellbook and balancing his brute strength with inteligence. And of course the barbarians. I basically can't enjoy BG3 until it has my orcs.
I was thinking of playing a Half-Orc Paladin, although I don't know if the Half-Orc specific dialogue will suit that. There seems to be a lot of unique "brutish" and intimidation dialogue.
Half-Orc Champion or one of the paladin Oaths. Probably Nature, Just because that reflects a long time DM-NPC I have had in my games for the last 10 years or so. An old Half-orc with a gentle smile and sun-baked skin, no bald with faded tattoos of a foolish youth. He is never super important, might be training some fresh Lv1's or even might be the Paladin that teaches a new paladin player the different oaths and gods they can champion. My new players love hearing everything in game as their character because even my vets forget things about the pantheon's of D&D. But most importantly, he helps people understand choices and role-play and how you are only limited by imagination and loose physics....
With them being officially announced, I'm rollin' a half-orc rogue. Intimidating quick brawler type character. I figure Savage Attacks will combo very well with sneak attack.
It is entirely possible that half-orc characters - with their connection to Gruumsh One-Eye - will benefit most from losing their eye, due to Volo's attempt to remove the tadpole in BG3. Just saying …
I rolled through BG 2 with a half orc barbarian back in the day. Wielding the flail of something, can't remember its name but you had to find all the pieces of it. Really looking forward to what Half orcs will look like in this game. Was a bit disappointed in halflings and gnomes. Although the one thing I'm mostly looking forward to is the paladin.
2nd Edition is far superior to any other. I appreciate some of the improvements 3rd edition provided, but I love the peace of mind 2nd edition's stats give you; having your character stats be static so that you aren't constantly wanting to level up to upgrade your STR/CON/DEX/WIS/INT/CHA to a higher level so you can get [the next thing] makes it so much easier to have fun instead of constantly looking forward, chasing the next level up so you can *finally* get your character to where you want him (her) to be.
*spoilers for current era of Forgotten Realms* Well known former nighttime rendezvous of Jarlaxle Banere and, because of that station, witness to the rebirth of the Host Tower of the Arcane. Fluff is free friends.
5e half-orcs are much better at playing classes other than the fighters/barbarians they were typically pegged is in 3e and earlier. No penalties to ability scores, and the lack of a bonus isn't too terrible in most respects. I'm actually thinking of a warrior Cleric type character which I reckon would work well if I concentrated on hitting things - at least for the first few levels. Though a hexblade Warlock or one of the wizard-fighter hybrids subclasses also appeals.
I think I'm going for half-orc barbarian or rogue in full release. Racial passive that allows you to survive at 1 hp once after long rest is really useful.
Im on the fence for being dark urge barb human or half orc I feel human dark urge will be more unique and most humans dont have a blood thirst to kill. However a half orc fighting his orcish dark side but unleashing on his enemies also seems very appealing.... urgh i suck at making choices
Half Orc rocks, but I think I'll play with the named pre-built characters my first playthrough, even as MC (that's how I liked to play DOS2). I've been playing fully custom parties in the early access tough, and I sure could trade my dwarf barb for a half orc barb considering I also use a dwarf cleric (light cleric, but hopefully with release we get tempest cleric, I'd prefer that).
I'm kinda torn on that. I don't think I could accept Astarion or Lae'zel as roaming mutes after spending so much time with them. Granted, I played the Red Prince on my first run of DOS2 and was... extremely inaccurate in how I played him! 😆
Half orc barbarian wild magic , moondrood... Idk but i think it might work... Or moondrood monk.. idk but the passif makes it fun and forgiving to try unarmored classes and with high strength even if a mage u can send a not to heavy entety flying xD
I wonder if there will actually be Half-Orcs in BG3... next to them another most wanted race is the Dragonborn. I hope they add them both! No, they need to add them both. lol The third game makes the best sequels, let's bring this trend back Larian!
Both those races have been confirmed in data mined files showing race specific reactivity so worry not. You mind need to wait until full release but when it is out they most certainly will be there.
@@spellandshield I saw a vid right after yours showing these racial dialogue choices. Can't wait to play them and all the subclasses! I logged about 80 hrs into early access, I already know Ima be well into the 100s after full release lol
Half Orcs would probably make amazing monks. Generally I don't see them as spellcasters, even more spiritually aligned half-orcs feel more fitting without spellcasting.
Half orc barbarian...with skinny Larian studio arms...BOOOOO! If they don't change the body shapes in character creation this game is mostly gonna suck. Maybe it's the new woke skinny jeans wearing orc barbarian that doesn't want to show off his toxic male masculinity!
