I don't know how much of the lack of separation should be blamed on the receivers vs. the play calling. When I watch JT O'Sullivan's QB School videos, he is often critical of the 49ers dropback passing game and route combinations.
Yes but on JT's videos you can also see Kyle draw up something sick from time to time. As usual it's somewhere in the middle, long drop backs aren't a good idea if DBs can lock the field up, but then again our receivers were winning more matchups last year. Last year if Aiyuk was 1 on 1 you'd take the shot nearly every time.
@@enkidu9705 True, that's a really good unit though, and it allowed Jauan Jennings to be awesome, he would have been SB MVP if the Niners pulled it off.
Meanwhile, our opponents receivers are wide open all over the field (this has been a problem on and off for a long time). Kind of a bad combination. Kyle can't seem to adapt OR evolve offensively and the defensive scheme is antiquated.
It is on Kyle and his Scheme ( Kyle is always thinking big 20-40 yard instead of dial up some short pass in a mix to throw the other team D off balance). We need more west coast styles play calling like a quick 4-5 yard pass, and this would help on the Red zone offense struggling .
Exactly! That's what helped Montana/Young get into a rhythm.....you get a bunch of those quick, safe passes early to build confidence, then the defense tightens up and you can get behind them. It's also SUPER frustrating to a defense to have the ball out in a couple seconds time and time again.....pass rush becomes an afterthought.
We’ve struggled to beat man coverage since early last year, it got really bad during the playoffs, and awful in the Superbowl. Our receivers have to win their battles, and they’re not
100 percent agree Purdy had one double pump throw to Kittle were he should’ve gotten the ball out faster but other then that he was holding onto the ball trying to get the secondary to be undisciplined and make a mistake . Most people forget that or don’t realize that . He’s not playing hero ball he’s trying to create extra time for the WRs to get separation.
Sure, but he's gotta remember that check-downs can be explosive too. Lately he's only been watching the flat when he has to. I know he'll be fine, and I'm never sad to see a deep shot, balance is the key though.
They cherry picked plays. There were multiple occasions where recievers were open and Brock hesitated to target them. He held the ball way too long the entire game. Offensive line played great
I am tired of Larry Brad and Lombardi caping for this dude on both ints it was on Brock for holding the ball 2 different redzone trips he missed an open BA missed on Kittle both TDs the worst play was when BA ran a bad route and then he pulled it down and ran backwards and took us out of fg range I get that there was mistakes by other players but he is the qb and if he doesn’t make any of these 5 negative plays we win the game I have always criticized his size arm talent but what Brock was good at was being on time with the football but now he has been doing too much running around and needs to get back to the fundamentals
@cjgray9352 every qb holds the ball long at times... he's trying to make a play so take the good with the bad. Yes he didn't have his best game, what do you expect hi. to be perfect in every game... that's delusional. Blame the receivers and the scheme and watch the film.
Has anyone else noticed that Kyle Shanahans play calls maybe have been found out. He maybe is not adjusting his playbook and defensive coordinators have his number nowadays
Whatever the play is, if a DB is stuck to you then it's up to you to win. Kyle still has some magic, like that huge Jennings game in LA his 3 touchdowns were just unfair. Fake block into an empty end zone, fake edge curl double move to deep post, it was beautiful.
This is his 8th year as a head coach, and longer as OC. They just found out now? After last year's Philadelphia game, the calling just hasn't been the same.
I don’t understand anyone being anti Kyle. It blows my mind, do you not remember what it was like basically since Mariucci? Besides those Harbaugh years it wasn’t very fun.
Plain and simple? Every play has like 3 reads, Kyle doesn't choose for Purdy. I think that the receivers have finally got their step back, but we haven't seen all 3 of them on point together yet, and I think Brock is trying to get all he can each snap and only checking the flat when he has to.
Did rice run a 4.3? Imagine just having a great route runner. Oh wait, the guy who does that well got shot and is still out for some reason when he said himself he is good to play. We need pearsall
Brock is doing just fine lol........the best part of his game is how he treats his teammates. He didn't throw any of them under the bus...nope he said..I need to get better! The interceptions were not his fault! He's running because has weak protection...Too often we settle for field goals...instead of going for the kill shot! And that's 100% on the play calls!
Stuck in the 90s? The dude started coaching in 2004. Also his coaching style changed the league, pre-snap motion, different plays from the same formation, and he'll still come up with something wicked most weeks. When Jennings went crazy against the Rams all 3 of his touchdowns were Shanahan gems. We've faced some good coverage, and the team still isn't at perfect execution.
The 2.8 yards of separation is a reflection on Kyle not scheming guys open. The League is catching on. I'd love to see me trips formations. Make it happen Kyle
Remember the Rams game? All of Jennings touchdowns were wicked play calls. Kyle's still got it, but we've faced some pretty good coverage and it finally looks like our receivers have all their steps back.
Best stream ive heard yet. Ive been pulling my hair out trying to understand wtf is going on with this team, ane you gave the best and most informative reasoning. I loved it
You guys are smoking some good stuff! | HIGHEST COMPLETION % THROUGH A QB’s FIRST 25 CAREER STARTS, FRANCHISE HISTORY. 6% higher than the next best guy, some guy named Joe Montana. We need CmC, Greenlaw, and Pearsall & we’ll be golden again! Oh and Kyle need me to learn to run the damn ball when he’s 10 points up in the 4th quarter!
Nobody to take the top off of the defense. They crowd inside the numbers, Purdy has nowhere to go. Either get a real #1 WR, or run more short stuff, dink and dunk
He’s a young guy in a vets shoes, he has big shoes to fill but at least he’s shown us he has what it takes to fix this. It’s not like he’s stuck with a weird throwing motion or slow thought process. Purdy processing things quick and has a quick release, can extend plays, just needs to make mental fixes that are easy fixes w/ a bit of film and a QB coach going “wtf are you doing here just throw it.”
1- is the change from run 1st to play action to open the passing game affecting the offense? 2- is it the league knows kyles passing routes and schemes and is tightening up coverages? 3-Where Walsh would throw a ton of short passes to change the defense and pull them up from deeper routes- is the niner scheme too repetitive? 4- is Brock well suited as a shotgun qb in the mold of all the great big arm qbs or would he function better in a more diverse West Coast style? With this oline and recievers?
Everyone just wants to dump on Brock, but no one can pin point their hate. Its always a different reason from one day to the next. It will be funny when they start to get it together and make the playoffs. I can't wait to see the worms squirm.
I think part of it is that it's kinda hard to scheme up red zone plays, it's more about spreading out and winning matchups. It seems like when Kyle has a little more space to work with he has more options. Those 3 Jennings touchdowns in LA were wicked plays: fake run block to a wide open end zone, fake edge curl double move to deep post? Magic, unfair, but Kyle can't use magic every play. Sometime the WRs just need to win.
For the past few years people have commented that Kyle can scheme any receiver open. It doesn’t seem to be true lately. There seemed to be trouble in the past Super Bowl
With Devin White just getting released by the Eagles, the Niners should take a hard look at him. I'm not sure what the issue the Eagles had with him was, but I think he's just the type of fast and hard-hitting LB that fits in the Niner's scheme.
At least i wasnt the only thinking the same thing same with Rams game. I be yelling at the TV towards Receivers get some separation for the love of God lol😅😅
This is on KS. He emphasizes his scheme and WRs need to block rather than using his Players to the best of their abilities. That's what great coaches do. The find players that have great talent and use those talents to their advantage. They ADJUST their scheme to fit the players. KS thinks he can outsmart ability.
The problem is the goal line calls. CALL A DAMN POWER RUN! Passing from the shotgun stance is fkn insane. Get back to old school 49er football and beat opponents on the ground. Stop this shotgun formation drop back bullshit. Our oline is horrible at pass blocking, yet nobody is getting open so why are we so pass happy?! Run the fkn ball!
Terrible line, lack of separation by receivers, injuries are piling up. On top of that, Kyle's redzone play calling has been terrible, and the defense is underperforming. To me, this is Brocks' best season so far. He is the glue holding it together, and if anyone thinks otherwise, they are simply not watching the games. The guy bounces right back after a bad game.
The solution is McCaffrey, when everyone is covered McCaffrey could usually beat his guy and Brock knew exactly where he was going. I hope he comes back soon!
It’s up to a QB during his cadence to recognize a potential blitz and change a play if needed, so I don’t buy the “what should he do” in that scenario. A QB isn’t standing under center for 20 seconds thinking about what he’s going to have for dinner. They’re suppose to scan the defense and see what package they’re in. Are they in a cover 0. Are they in a 2 deep zone. Are they going to blitz. Brock should have saw that blitz and change the play, at the least, the protection package. Everyone wants to make excuses for Brock when he has a bad game. They want to blame the offensive line, the receivers or the defense. It’s always something. Jimmy was a good QB here, but when they lost, it was all on him. They blamed Jimmy for everything. The defense gives up a score? It was Jimmy’s fault for not scoring a TD instead of punting. Purdy has much more weapons than what Jimmy had. Jimmy had Kittle, a rookie Deebo and Sanders yet no one ever blamed the lack of weapons for losses. Now, it’s because Brock doesn’t have CMC. It’s because Aiyuk didn’t show up. It’s some thing other than he just wasn’t good enough. If he needs all those pieces in order for him to play well and win games, then he’s not a franchise QB. Who was the Pats’ running back when they were winning those early championships? How about his receivers? His tight end?
The 9ers told you they were concerned about their receivers when they drafted Pearsall and Cowing. Aiyuk is the only one that consistently separates. Jennings does a bit as he’s a great route runner but ultimately his top end speed limits what he can do. Kittle is slow, Deebo is lazy and unrefined, Juice is a fullback, Mason isn’t a natural receiver. No one will ever convince me that Pearsall wasn’t drafted as a direct consequence of KC putting our receivers on clamps in the Super Bowl.
Purdy did not have the best of game against the cards but best believe he is in a contract year and he is a little more aggressive this year and had some question decisions. Credit to Purdy he is playing probably one or two highest pressure expectation qb position. Playing QB for the 49ers and Cowboys the expectation is hall of fame and Super Bowl which is crazy pressure.
This is what happens when you spend $60M on a mid tier QB and have no money left to spend on the other skill positions. What do you mean they're spending $1M on QB and $100M on skill players?
Chris Conley is a man beater as well but Kyle doesn’t trust anybody so it won’t matter! 😂😂 this offense requires max effort from every player for the scheme to work, one lineman takes a play off and the whole play is broken 😅
I'm starting to wonder if we are experiencing the brain drain from all our people behind the scenes and coordinators being hired elsewhere. It's one of the sucky things about your team being so good for so long.
Lots of hyperbole around our offense and Brock in particular. Players have bad games, it happens. Load up and go again Thursday. Quick turnaround after a disappointing loss can be a good thing
What's happened to the screens to Deebo? Had so many big plays that way with Jimmy as QB, low risk play, keep defense off balance. Hardly run it at all these days.
Maybe I don’t know what I’m looking at but I see dudes open. Since when in the NFL is it about getting separation. You have to throw in tight windows and throw guys open. Something Brock was doing. Nobody saying he’s playin g portly for the most part. But he’s leaving game changing plays out there and not making the best decisions in the most crucial moments. I’m a Purdy fan. I’m just saying if they’re gonna have a chance to win with all the injuries and not getting enough help from the D and special teams, is that he needs to be more perfect.
Theyre makg too many mistakes collectively: offense, defense, special teams, aaand coachg Cleanup t drive-killing penalties, fumbles, aaand ints Someone somewhere must make a game-changing play We need som pizzazz!!!
I’ll take Brock over most quarterbacks today. I believe he’s doing a great job just the offensive line not really holding up a lot and receivers not getting open. I think to use your Mason like they used Christian McCaffrey check down.
Not a BP guy but I will say this… if they pay him $60 million per year, the team around him (that includes Receivers) will not be better. I personally think the key to the offense is a CMC or Marshall Faulk-type back who is a dual threat. BP is replaceable in KS system. ✌🏾
Niners have some of the slowest receivers in the league, defenses are starting to shut down the middle which causes our receivers to not get open as fast and with our O line being trash Brock is forced to just do random shit
At times Purdy does hold the ball when guys are open early. For instance Kittle red zone throw. Purdy had Kittle open early for a potential score he doesn't throw it then when he does throw it it's too late Kittle has nowhere to go but out of bounds. When the team is struggling these are the kind of plays that need to be made. That being said the over all problem is not Brock.
WRs are not getting separation at all really.. BA literally was breaking off his route for aggressive catches or Glock throwing them open somehow or fitting balls in small windows … Brock is playing good as any QB though.. though Mase looks good running, we need CMC bad asf lol bruh we cooked at the moment 🤷🏾♂️
Paid, old, and slow with a stale ass playbook. Suoerstar captains become whiny and go out when the 9ers are behind. But they love trouncing mediocre and flat out bad teams. Love Baldy and Larry and Kev! Great stuff.
1) need quick throws, ball out in less than 3 seconds 2) need to throw more screens 3) need to utilize play action and bootlegs I’m not an NFL coach but I really think these ideas are not complex and should solve slot of the current offensive issues.
Its execution. Watch Johnny del. Aiyuk played great Deebo jogged the entire game and everyone kept messing up their run routes, messing up their spacing, and not winning. Coachablr. Purdy didn’t play great. And the reason that first pick happened because Deebo freaking jogged his guy left him immediately because of it to look at Kittle and that caused Purdy to hesitate.
I've had the feeling since last season that Deebo is a liability as a wide receiver. JT O'Sullivan ripped into him last year for lack of effort. The niners would be wise to get rid of him while people still think he's valuable
Purdy had that last pass tipped by the Cardinals DL and Kittle was wide open !! plus where is Jennings hes not even on the field ..its Purdys fault also you cant just say not his fault at all
It’s why they drafted pearsall. Unfortunately he got shot and he’s had the shoulder injury. And I also believe it’s because aiyuk decided to be a bozo and miss all of training camp. Add in that deebo and kittle are getting older and slower
Why doesn't Kyle look at the Vikings or the Commanders or the Rams and see what they are doing on offense to get their receivers open? He can start stealing routes from them. I really believe it's the scheme we are doing that's keeping us from being successful. Kyle needs to start getting creative and unpredictable in his play calling or we'll never get our receivers open. I watch every game and 95% of the time I know exactly what play he's going to call. And why isn't he rotating running backs. Why didn't they keep Cody Schrader instead or Guerrendo or Taylor? Cody was by far the standout in training camp. He's now on the Rams practice squad, so get him freaking back. He also needs to bench defenders that aren't doing their jobs.(Ward, Yiadom, and Campbell) They are horrible and play with no passion for the game. Put the rookies in because they are faster, hungrier, and need the experience and will improve with good coaching and film analysis/learning of what they need to improve on. Picking up has-beens from other teams is not the answer to our problems. We still are potentially one of the elite teams in the NFC, with an elite quarterback who is actually playing great, but it's the play calling, coaching, and a lackluster effort from 4 or 5 players that's killing us.
If they can't separate and get open on man or zone coverage, then bring in a man that can get open on all even double coverage....trade for Devante Addams
Brock needs to stop doing to much. Dude hesitates on throws now for some reason and doesn’t hit the check down. He is trying too hard to make too many big plays instead of just getting yards needed. It’s like he is specifically trying to stop the haters from calling him a check down merchant and a system qb. Just do what you used to. Run only when needed
The bright side in all this, is that I think we know we have our franchise QB, which is huge going forward. The rest of the cast come and go quickly on a football team.
If Deebo can't shake a LB we have issues. Team looks tired and uninspired. Not a good mix. All while O-line has been playing mostly great. If we had CMC we'd be at least 4-1. Hate admitting he's that important to this team but at 2-3 through 5 games it's hard to argue it. And how many times do we have to see fumbles and team standing around oblivious to it. I love Kittle but his head doesn't seem to be in game. Enough of the bullshit here AND LET'S PLAY SOME BALL!!! Defense can't make important stops anymore. Greenlaw is surely missed. But... there is a silver lining in all this. The return of Greenlaw, CMC and Robert Saleh. LOL
