In this video, you will see what these budgets look like in Ubud and Canggu, two of Bali’s most popular destinations for expats and location independent entrepreneurs.
00:16 Bali Cost of Living Overview.
So how much does it cost to live in Bali?
$700 per month is possible, but not comfortable. $850- $1,800 per month is comfortable. Most nomads and expats I know live within this range. $2,000+ per month and you can live very well.

I like how you gave us the breakdown of how much to live there. the apartments are cheap! dang, that's cheap for cook/maid!! your place looks pretty nice. Mmm, the food is making me hungry!! Dang, only $3.50 for all that food!?! Transportation is so affordable too! I've been to Bali back in the year 2000, i think. That's where I fell in love with traveling!!

Bali is in Indonesia. I am Indonesian, I live on the island of Java. my wife and I live on less than $ 200 a month. Yes, we live very simply and we are happy with our life. I'm just giving a picture that you can live here on less than $ 200 a month. Most Indonesians earn around $ 200- $ 400 a month. So surely thousands of $ will make you live luxurious and very comfortably. Indonesians are very very very friendly and kind, They will be happy to help. but everywhere in the world you will always have 1 or 2 bad people. So stay careful.

@ⅰи∂ㄩㄅ360 : not additional, but rather mixed up. Not all Muslims in Java do things that are mixed with Hinduism and Buddhism, only some elderly people are still doing mixed things like that. Now most Muslims in Java mostly do not mix Islamic rules with Hinduism or Buddhism.

Indonesia has 5 main religions. Most of them are Islam, which reaches 83% of the total population, then Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and Konghuchu. We are good neighbors even though we have different religions and races and cultures. There are so many cultural differences in Indonesia. even within one province, there are several different cultures.

Exactly, you don't need $2000 a month for living in Bali. In $2000 a month, i could figure out a way to live in the US.

12 months in Bali as a digital nomad (2019). Month 1. $2000 (tourist) Month 2. $1000 (realised I'm over paying) Month 3. $600 (stay out of Kuta...) If you have not over committed yourself to expensive accommodation. You can live is Bali as low a $600 a month. At first you travel around doing tourist things and been over charged by the locals (don't tell locals you are new, they will ask), then you have seen all the tourist traps and its life as usual and this is how you save money. $600 month to me is: 1 nice nice restaurant a week. 2 nice restaurant a week. 4 warrens a week. I advise you to get somewhere you can cook at home, you can't always be bothered to go out to eat everyday, (breakfast, lunch dinner). Again this is much cheaper. Live like a local half the week, stay away from malls, tourist centres and use an Indonesian mobile app called "Grab", it's like the Uber/Uber Eats of Asia. Except it's much cheaper as it's for locals. Taxis are half the price of the Blue Cabs and bike taxis can be 50% off compared to Grab cars. Eg, If you must use the Blue Cabs check the price on Grab first, then see if the Blue Cab can is over charging or can match the price, as prices vary on your tourist location. Then there is also Grab takeout food from the local warrens (cheap again). Also everything is and can be bartered upon in Bali, avoid corporate businesses where prices are fixed. Always deal with the independent businesses. This can save you up to 30% off. It's very easy to get in the habit of over-payment, some things will seem so cheap to you, that you may think to yourself; why bother to haggle. However people expect you to haggle here and there, so try to think of it like this; Every day I don't haggle is a day I give a away a days food. If you can save $5-10 a day, that is a 30-50% reduction in your local food costs. Try and get a rough idea of the local price for everything first (ask a local friend). Tourists will often be over charged and even after you barter, you will end up paying more. Some places have a locals Vs tourist prices. I avoid those if I can. Get good at your negotiation skills. It will become a reflex after a few months. I would say that if you are frugal, you could probably live for $400 a month. However I could not go that low as I must admit I like nice food and spoiling myself, after all you're on a working holiday. Beer is cheap, spirits are not so cheap as brands are imported. No need to go to a bar as it is acceptable to drink outside the store on the provided seating. A trip to a neighboring country such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines or Thailand can be done for a little as 3-$500, including accommodation and spending money. And don't forget to never leave home without your Grab app. Great place, great people, cheap & close to Asia. Don't forget to see the rest of Asia as it's so close and easy to get to (pre 2020 health issues) Ps. For the Digital Nomads 50gb of data is around $15 if you buy it in one hit (expires after 30 days). Buy data from the mobile providers app as they often do deals randomly on big bundles. Buying in small amounts or at a local stores will end up costing you twice/three times that. I used TELKOMSEL. Phones are cheap, it is worthwhile buying a duel sim phone. One sim for your home number and another for your data. You may also want to make sure your accommodation has a good chair and desk with a view, good air con as the summer is hot and you will not always want to travel to internet cafes or shared work spaces every day. IMPORTANT: Lastly, do not get into trouble with the law. The government is very strict and it is very common to be handed extreme jail time for what you might think is a cheeky smoke or any other chemical aided activities (zero tolerance). Indonesia loves to make examples of tourist who think they are above the law. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KHhaB6z8Jm4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DU37axiV2Iw.html 12 months and I never had a days trouble from the locals or the authorities. Be good and you will be treated exactly the same way. Good luck, you will love it.

Thanks for sharing your budget experience. Until a few years ago, Canggu was rice fields far from the popular beaches, but it’s being developed fast and is now the most popular digital nomad location in the world. It’s also clogged with traffic. Its waves attract a strong surf culture to the area. Mix in some hipsters and yogis and you have Canggu. There are many expats both young and old, and a large number of the villas owned by foreigners are located along the narrow roads that navigate between the rice paddies. I hope you get a chance to check it out.

I've been to Indonesia and Bali once on an extended holiday. Bali is fantastic! The people, the food, the nature, the atmosphere, it's all just great. . Be aware: unless you're comfortable sleeping in a hot, humid climate, having a place with a good a/c is mandatory! . Also: newly build estates often are very good, but maintenance sadly is often lacking, so be aware of older estates.

I shot a lot of footage there but it has gone missing, otherwise, I would have a video specifically about it. Ubud has gotten inundated with tourism since "Eat, Pray, Love". Up the coast towards Balian is very relaxed and growing. Check out my video of the Balian surf break on a crowded day. Les crowded days, I was in the water. More videos are on their way. I found that Indonesia and particularly Bali were great places to escape the March, April and May heat of Bangkok and Thailand. Did the first year in Bangkok without leaving except for several visa trips to Penang, Malaysia and vowed never to do that again. Back then I was younger, stronger and more tolerant of the heat. I didn't even have to exercise and stayed fit and thin. Even with piling on all the delicious Thai food and in particular those heavenly deserts. In the hot season my wife and I would walk down to the klong where the Thai ladies made all sorts of deserts and fruits and order khao niaow ma muang. It was so cheap and delicious back then, I think 5 baht for the both of us. We were living the dream with my Coronado condo rented and me teaching English privately from one end of the city to the other. I remember there was a fresh flower shop on the way home from work and I would always stop to by bunches of roses at 6 baht for my wife. "Those were the Days" as the song goes.

This was a really interesting watch and very well put together! I am planning on staying in Bali for a few months next year, so this was very useful for me. I keep hearing that the Canggu area is the place to be, your property there looked really nice. Looking forward to trying the food there too! Generally it sounds a bit more expensive than Chiang Mai - but you get the beach here haha
@LivingOverseasTV
@LivingOverseasTV 5 лет назад
I do like Canggu a lot but there are many great places in Bali, especially when you get away from the touristy areas. If you try, you can live there almost as cheap as Chiang Mai. I'll be back there next year. Maybe we can collaborate on a project. I really like your work and subscribed to your channel.

I lived in Bali several years ago, it was a wonderful experience for the 6 months I lived and work there, I live in Phuket, Thailand. Getting used to Bali vs Thailand was a little difficult being away from my wife and family and especially the food. It took about 2 months to get used to the food and fall in love with it. It actually affected my taste for Thai cooking, I found it tastier and less fried and oily. Most things are pretty reasonable compared to Phuket, which is probably the most expensive part of Thailand to live in. Your description of Bali is pretty accurate, although its been a while since I've been there, prices in the world do go up. The people are friendly as charged, you didn't mention the traffic and congestion, I don't know why. it's just a part of Asian life. the amount of traffic and motorbikes must be 10 times greater than Phuket and slightly more than Bangkok, which is rather incredible given the relative size of the Island. Upon my return to Thailand, the roads and traffic in Phuket seemed far more organized and sane, but this would not stop me from being in Bali again. I like the gritty reality of Indonesian life, without a family in Thailand, it would surely be my next preferred destination to live. Thank you for sharing your video and life at a price in Bali.

Brian Wells, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I agree with you. In this video, I was focused primarily on the cost of living. I hope to do a video about the positives and negatives in the future. The traffic is a negative for sure.
