Gamelan Music from Bali: Baleganjur Ensemble Mertasari plays 'Tabuh Buaya Mangap' ('The Eating Crocodile'). This video recording was made by Henrice Vonck and Henry Nagelberg on 3 September 1994 in Kelating, Bali. This upload shows an excerpt of this performance - the complete recording of the whole piece lasts nearly 34 minutes. Other pieces played by Mertasari were also recorded on video by Vonck and Nagelberg. I consider this a fantastic and sensational performance and one of my all time gamelan favourites. Since about 1995 I've had this gem on a vhs-video (at the time I broadcasted some of the recordings by Vonck and Nagelberg of ensemble Mertasari on dutch musicstation De Concertzender, in a 90-minute radio-special on baleganjur music) - I digitized this material a while ago, and thought it would be nice to share a small amount of it on RU-vid, as it is fabulous music from Bali and therefore of great value for listeners worldwide.
