Baling Hay, New Holland Super 66 and Farmall 560

I finally start baling first cutting hay for 2020 for our horses. I'm using a 1959 Farmall 560, and a 1950's New Holland Super 66 small square baler. Both a pretty tired old machines, but they do work none the less even with their quirks. We fought the knotter on one side not working for nearly an hour the day before but after that seldomly broke bales when we were feeding the baler the amount it wanted.

In any dense spot I'm always running in 1st with T/A on, the baler desperately needs a tune-up, that's what is holding it back the most.

@@stupidlucky9220 That is just the Super 66 design we used one for years. They have very little capacity because of the wadboard design to move the hay into the chamber for the main plunger. We used to hammer hay through it with a 44 hp tractor and watch the rear access door pop against the spring closure. Also I notice your wadboard is missing the guard so at some point I bet your side plunger hammered itself out of the baler. If you want more capacity find a old John Deere 14T or 24T. The difference is amazing.

The auger is the way to go I don’t know why they went to the stupidly erratic forks that make an absolute lousy looking bale. No consistency at all I have a BC 5060. The price was right but give me a Deere any day. It’s unarguable.

I recently picked up a PTO-driven NH 66 and pulled it with a Deere 40T this past fall. Hay was light and did just fine. Anxious to see how it handles the thicker first cutting this summer. My Deere doesn't have live PTO and has significantly less HP than your 560.

put a hay rack behind that baler and you won't have to pick them off the ground.
