Dr. David Johnston began a lifelong journey when he purchased Balintore Castle, a Victorian Category A protected building, located in Balintore, Angus, Scotland.
The castle, which has a rich history, was in a state of disrepair. David has spent the past 16 years, give or take, restoring the castle himself, a little bit at a time.
David sat down and spoke with us about his journey, his process, and his goal to see Balintore Castle once again vibrant with life.
Weber State University students traveled during a Study Abroad experience to Balintore Castle in Scotland in Summer 2023 to help David in his restoration efforts. The project for the Weber crew included many facets, including turret construction, general maintenance, and digital scanning.
