Many people believe Balisongs are just for flipping but their original design was for fighting. Here's a quick hack to get that balisong into the fight

Nice trick good sir. I've always fancied using balisongs for an EDC (due to them arguably having the strongest locking mechanisms). This is an awesome trick to use in a pinch.

But really though, he draws the blade and stabs faster than someone can process what's going on.

You should know your weapon by feel. Especially one's with locks, when I grab the handle I already know where the blade is an which js the fastest way to open it.

Sheesh. I knew the balisong was a very potent knife, but I didn't realise how quick it actually is to go from something totally harmless to lethal weapon _from concealment._ Mixing that with Kali movement and deliberately hiding that you have a balisong until you strike is definitely scary
@BlahhhOkay
@BlahhhOkay 11 месяцев назад
This is what I needed I don’t intend to hurt anyone it’s one of the few knives I carry and I carry this one alone the most. If there ever was an incident this is the best explanation for opening it and using it in a dire situation where you must react and act quickly.

This explains the story my grandpa told me he said when he was in deployment in like I think Albania or something I don’t remember he said kids would come up to you and rub mud on ur clothes and when you chased em they would lead you to an alley with a bunch of guys and they’d pull out there knifes faster than you could with a switchblade
@Sirpatpat

Yeah I always knew the flashy flipping was so extra for actual use. It wasn't until I watched a short of a guy deploying and stabbing in a blink of an eye. And it was at that moment I realized you don't have to grip both handles! So that got me curious and here I am lol. Thank you for the information and stay safe out there please!

The move he is doing is called the quickdraw. It is one of the first moves (in my opinion) you should learn. But you should see some of the stuff people can do. The Hellbent, The Helix, the list goes on! There are people who can do combos for minutes at a time without stopping.

@@AlanOdinson Yeah. I do carry a balisong with me for EDC, but the only way I open it is with the quickdraw, as it's the only real practical move. If I'm at home though I'll be flipping it like crazy lol

If you ever come across a copy of the book BALISONG: IRON BUTTERFLY By Cacoy Hernandez and its affordable, I recommend getting it; it's not a technical/technique book. It's more anecdotal about his life experience with some humorous encounters.

@@AlanOdinson then what is the specialty of balisonh/butterfly knife?
@AlanOdinson
@AlanOdinson 2 года назад
@@paulandersbullecer3152 - It's initial specialty was that it was considered more of a secure folding knife than folders of it's time. Most modern folders are much more secure than their older counterparts. It gave the user fixed blade power with a folding design without the fear of having it close on your hand if the lock broke. They can be used multiple ways though. Stabs, slash or blunt force.

@ClockworkFlips

while this is true, it makes little sense to buy or carry a knife which is objectively worse than other knives in a combative sense. the balisong simply cannot compare to an OTF or spring assisted knife. with that said, unless someone lacks the pocket space and has strong need to both flip and defend themselves, i dont see why a balisong would ever be used in combat unless in excessively rare circumstances.
@AlanOdinson
@AlanOdinson 2 года назад
I think you're thinking too much into this, bud. It's just a demo with a specific style of knife.
@AlanOdinson
@AlanOdinson 2 года назад
@ninja - Never at any point did I say this is preferable to a fixed blade. It's a niche technique done with a niche blade. As far as the technique itself, you'll see balisong legends like Jake Imada showing this very technique. I wasn't aware of this until it was brought to my attention by my friend Blaise Loong
@williamjoy9520
@williamjoy9520 2 года назад
Honestly, probably depends on the person. If you're going against a person with a spring loaded knife who doesn't know how to use it well enough, that can be all the difference.
@adammeyers5229
@adammeyers5229 2 года назад
Balisongs can be drawn fast both standing and on the ground. They can be used as an impact weapon when closed and the tang makes an excellent kubotan. As for otf and spring assisted those are good too. I think it comes down to knowing how to use the knife you are carrying and the quality of knife. Rather a balisong, otf, switch or spring assisted, make sure it's a quality model.

Well I think youll find that meat is alot harder to penetrate than a foam target not trying to degrade this video that is a cool idea but try doin that on lets say a slab of ham ....good luck
@AlanOdinson
@AlanOdinson 2 года назад
Respectfully disagree. These targets are designed for stopping arrows, namely broadheads, traveling at 200+ fps. The feeling will be pretty close if not equal to a slab of meat.
