I've been exposed to it a bit through yoyoing since both are in the same genre of a skill toy. I think they're great if you can do the tricks, but as a tool, I'd rather carry any other knife. I'd rather not carry a karambit either. I know a friend of a friend who acts all badass with his, but everyone knows he's just an edge lord with it. I carry an OTF, but at least it's usable as a knife.
I am trying to be an expert about knives, nope. Karambit is trash when it comes to cutting stuff like sticky things, tapes etc. It is true that karambit is made for combat.
@@sethklikesgunsyes it is great at cuttings like skinning but as i said, it is bad when things sticky. Karambit is a great knife I'm really fond of it, I have two karambits.
Grim, this is exactly how I imagine them interacting, I feel like the Ka bar guy in the background, I love my Ka bar Edit:never thought I’d get this many likes on a comment lol
@nedkelly3436Most people aren't effectively trained. A karambit is perfect for someone like me as I avidly train to disable joints and go for arteries in combat. Plus I like grappling so hooking my opponent with the blade is very appealing.
@@gigachad481 "The Karambit knife was actually used as a farming tool in the 11th century. Overtime it developed uses for every day carry and defense as a weapon that was affordable and easy to use and conceal." Sited several different sources and they all say the same thing It was originally just a small hand scythe used for hacking through roots in farming.
Fun fact: The karambit belongs to the list of dedicated tools weaponized. It started life as a knife used for cutting material into strips and root cutting more specifically. That's why it has a strange curve to it and is held in reverse grip. It allows the user to get a good pull going. The butterfly knife is just an unusual switchblade style knife, and is illegal to carry in a lot of places.
@@josephcometa1992 Yeah I imagine it was a way to carry a fairly large pocket knife that you could open with one hand, but didn't require a spring.. Because springs that small require fairly advanced equipment to make.
No it was made to use in an fist combatlike a brass knuckle there are even versions of it fused with brass knuckle the thing is they are both useless and just for fun
@@ekremguler6796 no they are not useless, it used to have a small blade and used in a fist, when in a battle situation people sometimes dont notice the small blade in his enemy hand and when the enemy not aware slit the throat, you know nothing
@@No_man777 It weirded me out when people called it Butterfly knife since I live in the country that made THE Balisong. So when someone asked me about it, I just stared confused.
Fun fact: Karambit was made larger after being used in a martial art (Silat warriors. Creditto the guy in replys ) they enlarged it to make it look cooler but is supposed to be really small and concealed within your hand.
Karambits are used in Indonesian Pencak silat, originating in West Sumatra by the Minangkabau people where, folklore believes it was inspired by tiger claws. Another fun fact, it was originally used for rice thrashing and planting like a sickle.
Okay, I hate to ruin dreams but the karambit is for, dun dun duh, gardening. Any knife with a curved blade like that is usually to cut roots while you're digging or to graft branches
nope, karambit was initially developed to chop offf thumbs if someone tried to grab your hand youd thust forward and their thumb would come off making it impossible to use guns meaning you won the gun fight with a knife!
For combat, Karambit all the way. Its difficult to disarm a Karambit with that ring loop. Also, the ring loop helps you grapple without dropping your blade. We cant play jitter spinners in a knife fight xD Practicality over flashiness.
Attach your balisong knife into the propellers of an RC helicopter. Go to a terrace and control it from there. Hack your bad guy with the RC while hes riding a bike, taking a piss on the wall, on the stairs, while hes carrying something heavy, while tying his shoes, while hes sitting down. XD
I think karambits technically are better cause in fighting ya just want a blade trying to make concealed contraptions have been proven time and time again to waste time and break easy.
In a fight?a karambit is gonna make you more vulnerable than if you just were using fists, unless you legitimately get professional training for several years Those knives are legitimately ornamental at the most But c'mon lmao
@@greennightcrawler9715well supposedly your supposed to drag it across your opponent which would probably be worse then just getting stabbed but idk if I was going into a melee fight I'd probably bring something bigger then a knife.
@@nateianovici5739 no no no, lumberjacks and pyromaniacs aren’t the same. Don’t compare me to some forest fella. If you want an example of a maniac with an axe, look at the American Psycho scene or a few parts of The Shining. Or just play Pyro in Team Fortress 2.
the bali is designed as a simple tool, they where even given to soldiers, its meant to be as simple as possible but still being able to fold, but people started flipping them.
As a karambit owner the cutting into the leg thing hit home. Although more often than not it’s actually my hand cause it pokes through my jeans and catches on my hands
In Indonesia, karambit knife is actually a hidden weapon that is often associated with Tiger style silat. This particular style has a very low stance with finishing their opponents on the floor so you could imagine how dangerous it would be if they had a knife in their hands
id rather take the balisong~ already does the slicing and stabbing with minimal effort compared to karambit thats prolly good for hooking and just sticking it in there with slight difficulty in slicing but anyways im reading too into it~ i love and own both~
Reverse grip is bad if you're sword fighting, if you brought a knife to a sword fight you fucked up anyways. If you know what you're doing the reverse grip for knife fighting is very effective. Just think about how dangerous a mma fighter or a boxer is, then attach knives to his fists.
@@umutsalihcaylak5404its besides on person reference, and the tecnique, you don't know how deep Karambit can slash through the meat(imagine if it cut your tendone), while balisong is only good for stabing, karambit can also graple without droping the knife. karambit is also very easy to unlead.
Balisong is one of the most enjoyable things ever. Learning new tricks and all of that. Never learned to skate or anything really because my parents were too afraid of me hurting myself. So now that im older, taking up balisong was not only a rebellious slap in the face, but it taught me that practice makes perfect and to take pride and patience in what i do.
Karanbits actually aren't combat knives, at least that wasn't their original purpose. They do work great for that to, but they were designed as another variety of military utility knife, kinda like how a machete is designed to slash through brush and hedging but works on flesh. It wasn't the purpose, just an unintended possible second use.
Not true in the slightest. The karambit does have practical, close quarters techniques based around grappling, severing tendons or nerves, and puncturing arteries. The balisong was made to be open single handedly and quickly given the lack of technology in the time it was said to have originated. Which I think was around 800AD in the Philippines.
