This is a re-upload of the (much appreciated) video that I made and uploaded in 2008, necessary because somewhere in 2020 something (apparently) went wrong with the sound file of the 2008 video. Sound is ok again... so please enjoy once more... :) I added the following information in July 2008: “I stumbled upon these beautiful recordings of folk songs from Serbia about six years ago. They're from the archives of Radio Belgrado and were broadcasted in a radioshow from there. Even without knowing the lyrics I'm sure this beautiful singing reaches the heart of evry music lover. Featured here are two famous male singers, each doing one song. The first song is called in english 'near the village, a green meadow' and is sung by Vukasin Vule Jeftic. The second song is 'Ah, my doro' and is sung by Dragoljub Lazarevic. Notice also the great instrumental accompaniment. Responsible for this is the legendary violinist/orchestra leader Vlastimir Pavlovic Carevac (1895-1965). He started working for Radio Belgrado from the very start of the radio station, in 1929. The recordings you'll listen to here were done in the period 1954-1964 approximately. Of this kind of music and from this period Radio Belgrado has released some cd-albums, and probably these songs are included. If not, then you're lucky to hear these gems over here. Hope you'll enjoy it. The pictures in my video are all from the worldwideweb. The vast majority of them show rural life scenes from a bygone era in the former Yugoslavia, mostly from Serbian villages, and roughly from the period between 1960-1975.” [PdR, July 2008]
