Chris takes his friends Kristen and Siya to the Confectioners' Ball at the Hofburg, where they soak up the unique atmosphere and even dance a waltz. In addition we meet Desirée Treichl-Stürgkh, the woman in charge of the world-famous Vienna State Opera Ball.

Vienna is the most beautiful city in the world. It's rich in stunning history and culture and you can see it everywhere. The architecture, the music, the art, the people...I gravitate to that city so much. I love everything about it. I've trevel the world and saw many places but none of it is like Vienna. I have to visit it every year, because it's just magical!

for the interview with Desirée Treichl-Stürgkh: the ball room is so large because the opera rips out all seats and raises the audience floor on level with the stage, then lays out the parquetry full lenght of the now giant ground, ~850 square meters at your disposal . they also strip most of every other room to turn it into table and service areas or another ballroom; the disco in question is in fact the emptied carpenter department of the opera. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OwYL3-aY518.html for the waltz she mentioned: debutants are obliged to perform "left waltz" at the entry demonstration, which includes a cross leg move. :p but after all, even als visitor you better learn to waltz or it is useless to attend most of the time. it is vienna and a classic ball event, no music in the main ball room is younger than 100 years and the other couples will gladly waltz you into oblivion :D they do not stop for nothing, you better dance and move with the flow or move out and watch the pro audience ;)

Very nice! As a classical musician, Vienna is the Mecca for me and really want to go soon! Just wondering, do you book tickets to a particular ball in advance or is it strictly by invitation only? Also, can single men go by themselves or do you have to bring a partner? Love the vid!

Hey, viennese debutant here! Most balls have a website where you can purchase tickets (oftentimes months) in advance. The price varies, and most of them have different types of tickets (some with dinner included, some not). Everything taking place at hofburg is normally a safe bet to be purchased online, and also easily found, so that's probably a good place to start. And yes, a single gentleman can go by himself. But if you want to dance, you'd have to ask strangers to do so with you, so it's your choice if you are comfortable with that.
