Hey Cody, I have used world class super mags for years. The original ones did not have color foil wrap on the shells. They were the old school look, plain brown. The old ones had a bright, well defined tail, went way higher and did have a huge symmetrical break. I got these foil wrapped ones and was so mad and disappointed with the performance. The cans are good for the size but the old ball shell out performed them. They were always mixed in with excals for the tail and size in my shows. In fact, there is still a RU-vid video out there of an entire show using only excals and old super mags. The super mags broke almost as wide as excals. One of the local stores by me in Knoxville, TN was still receiving the old super mags.
Cans for the win. You can even hear the ball shell launch is so much quieter and a little pop compared to a desk vibrating boom. Pop balls v boom cans :) Love this comparison!
I love it when you use the tubes that come with the kits definitely should incorporate the original tubes while shooting off the fireworks. Love the channel.
Canister shells are just superior, but that sead there's nothing like a real ball shell when there good!. Nothing like the sound when there going up in the air .Thanks for sharing as always cody 👏🏼👍🏼.
These are good but if you’re into mini cans you should check out these 3” cans I got from TNT a couple years ago. I know TNT is kinda expensive but they are worth it!
I buy the super Magnum every year at least three to four packs these ball shells hit hard and go pretty high 👍👍👍 that seemed to be a low-quality pack because they don't seem as good on video
I prefer a canister shells only because they’re louder sometimes better effects but like you said ball shells are definitely more symmetrical. Great comparison Cody.❤️
Interesting, it definitely seemed like the Cans were better. They went higher, they were flying longer before breaking, and I thought the pacing that created was better... they broke louder and seemed bigger... overall, I think they were just way better. I almost felt like the comparison was similar to comparing 200g cakes to 500g cakes.
Stars are more densely packed in the ball shells, but the cans seem to break about twice as hard and spread twice as much. At least on these I'd take the cans all day.
It seemed like the canisters had more powder. It would be awesome to dissect one of each and compare the powder weights....It would also just be cool to compare how they are constructed.
Don't they have manufacture date or year in them anywhere? That could tell also something if the balls are older then they probably changed to canister shells.
That was kind of surprising. The height of the canisters was probably due to the fact that they were snug in the fiberglass tube, giving them good compression, where the balls could only rely on the launch charge. I didn't see the symmetry to be much different between the two. Maybe the ball shells were an early product that evolved into the better performing canisters. (?) This was an awesome side by side video! I wonder what other ball vs. canister comparisons would look like. Do canisters normally out perform ball shells, or was this just a fluke? Cheers!
I have a different take, though I dispute none of your conclusions. I like some variety in height/effect in our tiny shows, we kinda pre-game for the ones the club one street over sets off and we get free! I'd definitely by these in the canister, but we have fun shooting one of each together too for a stacked effect. I get the rockets that have a similar size charge to the 1-1.5" ball shells or that's what they measure as. I think of them as the three biggest sizes, but only because that's how I've always seen them in stores, I'm sure there are others. I also get 18/24 mortar and/or canister, several 200g singles or one multi shot or cake, two or three 500g single shots and a 500g finale cake or two, it's just only several hundred bucks worth and my friends always insist on chipping in so very modest by most fans shows i imagine, you've set off more one section of a video than we ever do. Still, it's fun as hell anyway, fantastic reviews man, my next years show will be so much better for your reviews!
Call me crazy but I’d take the ball shells over the cans. I dig the effects and I just didn’t think the cans were that visually impressive. It’s not all about sound
Really wished ball shells where allowed to go up to 2 inch for consumer shelss. Also wish there was more premium consumer ball shell kits. Don't get me wrong i have seen some great ball shells. Used to get these kylin king ball shells in a blister pack. They where sweet.
They might have NOT "switched", But are offering a different product within a "line". Think of how cars USED to be sold: Hey, Here Is the NEW 1977 Buick LeSabre! Do you want a Coupe?, Sedan?, Wagon?... Cool, got ya covered.
Looks like the ball shell version got watered down significantly. I remember 11-12 years ago the balls would hit hard and produce a large, symmetrical break.
