i was searching for so many begginer ballet at home videos and everything was already too advanced! I really needed something to start from square 1. This channel is EXACTLY what i need! I am so happy to have found youre channel! You have such a wonderful way of speaking and this was so much fun! Thank you so much for starting this channel!
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching! If you want the complete introduction, my BALLERINA BASICS program starts from the very beginning with an array of training guides and videos plus new ones every month to progress over time. In creating Everyday Ballet, I was very aware that so many programs that claim to be "Beginner" actually assume A LOT of knowledge! Ballet is such a wonderful technique for the body (and the spirit!) and so I have really focused on making it truly accessible to people who are brand new beginners. I'm so delighted you have found it to be the introduction you've needed. YAY! Thanks again for watching and for reaching out--you've made my day! :-D
Am I not activating my core correctly if I don’t feel any soreness in any muscle but my shoulders? I was keeping them down and relaxed but I’m not used to dancing so keeping my arms up and moving is new to me
Thank you so much for this workout, even as a model, I find it’s super important to work on my posture and core.. So while looking for workouts I came across your channel and this video specifically has helped me tremendously, I now do it every morning after my yoga practise. Kicking off your day with this also is an effective reminder to keep paying attention to your posture during the day! More videos like this or other workout variations that focus on posture and core would be so much appreciated. You’re amazing! ❤️ Wish you a lovely day.
oh my gosh i love this channel!!!!!! you're sure a great instructor, and u make me feel really comfortable even though i know my form is awful lol thank u so much!!!!
Thank you! Ballet should be a joy to behold and to do! I am so glad my teaching style makes you feel comfortable, as this is exactly why I made Everyday Ballet. :-D
within the first prompt of telling me to hug in the core I already felt it tremble hahaha... this was a great exercise! I tried my best to hug in my core the whole time but I feel like my back was still kicking in - I hope I'm sore tomorrow!
I am 11 years old and I had a dream of being a dancer from age 6....I discovered ballet at age 8 and I felt that it is so peaceful and melody.....I hope I can also do these steps?
I'm glad you found Everyday Ballet, and I hope you will learn some ballet with me! Practice is the best way to learn. Wishing you all the best on your ballet journey!
Do I need to just do 1 eposide a day or multiple eposides a day. Do I also need to repeat the eposides on a weekly basis? I am confused on how I can put this into a daily routine while gaining a long term habit. I LOVE these videos ❤
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! The series is there to use as you'd like. Generally, I'd say doing core, barre, arms, & stretching every other day is ideal. If you're looking for a completely guided experience, I recommend my Ballerina Body program at everydayballet.com. It has tons of videos, plus step-by-step guides that let you know exactly what to do and when. I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos!
My shoulder and collarbone is really really tense when I do this exercise, I was wondering if you had any tips on how to relax those muscles so that I can activate my core instead? I can’t seem to get my neck and shoulders to “un-tense,”?
(I also accidentally posted a similar question on a different video, I meant to post that comment here but as I was writing it automatically play the next video and posted there$
Thanks for your question! It is common to feel tension in the neck and shoulders when starting this exercise. In order to relax the neck more and shift the effort to the core and waist, you’ll want to make your movements smaller-especially the side bends. Really press down through the feet and focus on the area below the navel. See if you can draw it in slightly. Then actively release the neckline. Breathe. Repeat this over and over so that your body learns it can relax the neck and shoulders more because the core is supporting your movements. I hope this helps! 🙏🩰🥰
That is the usual place people first feel this exercise because they’re not used to engaging their core. But if you keep working with the idea of releasing the shoulders and hugging in the navel on every exhale, you will start to feel the core, back, and side waists more and more. Hope this helps! 🥰🩰✨
Ballet can be excellent for improving various conditions including sciatica--BUT every body is different and these kinds of issues depend on so many factors! I have sciatica and I find ballet helps me prevent it from flaring up. You can always give it a try and see if it helps. Remember to go gently and modify as necessary. (And consult your doctor with any concerns! I am not a physician and my suggestions are not meant to replace medical evaluation or advice.) I hope you will find ballet helpful! The good posture it builds can be transformative!
It really is the power center of the body! Movement that emanates from the deep core is part of what makes ballet so graceful yet profoundly strong and centered. 🥰🩰
As someone who has to sit at a computer chair 8 hrs a day can I say THANK YOU SO MUCH, this exercise has saved my back and shoulders from dying a slow death!
Wonderful! You are so welcome! Yes, sitting is SO hard on the body-it’s really good that you’re addressing that part of your health, and I’m delighted you’re finding this exercise so helpful! 🙏😊🩰🌸
This has to be the most underrated workout on RU-vid. Its literally the only workout that made me fix my posture and define my body!!!plus you can literally see the results right after the workout. Thank you
I’m so glad this video has helped you! Ballet movements are so wonderful for the body because they stretch & strengthen at the same time. I think this is why you feel such a difference. BRAVO! 👏🏻✨🩰🥰
That’s natural/expected when you first start. If you practice this exercise on a reguregular basis, you’ll feel a shift where your waist, core, and back work more to support the arms. 🥰🩰✨
Thank you so much for making this series! I'm 17 and was worrying if I would ever be able to start ballet at my age and in quarantine on top of that - I'm so happy I can finally cast those doubts aside! Also, for this series I wondering should I be practicing each lesson everyday for a week or can I just move to the next episode everyday?
Hi! I literally have the same situation... I'mm nearly seventeen, and in quarantine. I still practise at home, but I'm afraid if I will be able to properly be able to do it
Love it I’m 10 years old and I’ve always been interested in ballet I do a routine of all your workout videos everyday thanks to you I’ve been getting better and better
Thank you kindly for this posture ballet video! This is exactly what I was looking for. I've wanted to take ballet lessons for over 36 years. My dreams are now becoming a reality thanks to your channel. Also, I'm a beginner so these videos are wonderful and perfect to start my ballet journey! 🩰🩰🩰
I'm so happy you found Everyday Ballet and are realizing your desire to do ballet! It will bring you joy and that is the BEST reason to do anything! Congratulations on beginning your ballet journey!
If you want to have better posture, do this exercise every other day. To learn ballet, try practicing for 30-45 min three times per week. Hope this helps! 😊🩰🌸
Would like to say thank you for creating these videos! I am also a grown woman and I am looking for ways to be more healthy and more feminine. After fighting it for a while and always trying to be the tough girl I realized that I should embrace my natural and God-given softness and femininity! Workouts like this are a great way for me to embrace that side of who I was created to be and I really appreciate you making this art form so accessible for beginners as well.
Thank you! I'm so glad you found us! I agree that ballet offers a wonderful way to find power & grace that can connect you more deeply to your feelings of femininity (as opposed to brute strength and "toughness"). Interestingly, learning how to move with ballet fluidity, control, and grace will actually make you VERY strong, too! Thanks for watching!
I'm 50 and just started ballet with a local instructor. I've been concerned about form since I started and she does not seem to emphasize this as much as I think she should. So glad I found this channel.
Congratulations on starting your ballet journey! I’m glad you are finding Everyday Ballet helpful! I am also in my 50’s and I can’t tell you how important good form is to protecting the joints (and not just in ballet!). I hope you’ll continue to watch and learn… If you’re interested in having a home ballet routine, you may enjoy my online training programs, too. www.everydayballet.com/become-a-member/ All the best to you for your ballet practice! 👏🌸🩰
Thank you for this video! Like many others in the comments, I have a desk job and struggle with rounded shoulders, tight chest and overall terrible spine. I gave this ago and it was HARD!! But I want to keep doing it because good posture looks so beautiful 😍
thank you soo much for this video💖💖 you are awesome teacher🧚🏼♀️ i have a problem is it normal that my fingers hurt (idk how to explain it) when i do these exercises?
You're so welcome! It is not unusual that you might feel A LOT of stretching in the upper body during this exercise--including sensation in the forearms, wrists, and fingers. If your fingers are hurting, then I would suggest going a little smaller in your movements to see if this helps. If you do this exercise for a week or two and it is still happening, you may want to do some dedicated wrist and hand stretching. Beyond that, you may want to ask your doctor what could be happening. Generally, when the upper body is tight, there can be some strange sensations. As your posture and flexibility improve, these should subside. Hope this helps!
Hello! May I please ask, can I start learning ballet with your videos, when I am almost 15 and I have no expirience with ballet? I'd love to start also taking a ballet lessons when ballet schools will get opened, but I am worried that I would have to be in a class with 6-7 years old children ahahh. Thank you so much for your reply and all of these videos, they are really helping me to learn ballet 🩰🌸!!
Yes you can! You can learn some important basics from my RU-vid videos. My Ballerina Body online programs offer complete training, and I highly recommend this for steady progress. I don't know where you live, but the availability of classes for your age group can vary widely depending on your location. As you say, you may end up with less-than-ideal conditions for beginner ballet. But don't let these things hold you back! Learning ballet will teach you beautiful lessons that last your whole life! Do what you love! Xo, Tiekka www.everydayballet.com/become-a-member/
@@everydayballet Thank you so so much for your reply and also programs offer, I'll definitely look into that! And, I amsorry for sking so much and also, my apologizes if you said this at one of your videos, but as I'm new on your channel, I haven't seen every single video so far! So I just wanted to ask, if you think that if I would really see that I love to learn and to dance ballet, should I buy some ballet equipment? Will it have impact on my dancing? Thank you so much for reply once again, I wish you a amazing day!
If you release your neck & shoulders, firm your core, and try to keep the hips from twisting, I think you’ll find it also works your waist, core, & back quite a bit!🥰🩰✨🌸
I am so happy to have found you. There is nothing like this in here, where I live, in north Finland. So elegant and graceful, really lifts my spirit❤ thank you😊
It felt a bit like I was flying!! I cannot emphasise enough how insanely difficult this is. I feel this mostly in my arms! I just gained a lot more respect for all dancers than I already had. 😄 Perhaps I need to start with smaller movements, focus on keeping my core engaged for now more than anything. 😊
You have discovered how much there is to these light movements! Brava! Yes, you may want to move smaller for a bit to really get in touch with your core. A good way to do this is to actively hug the area below the navel in and up with each exhale. Eventually your arms won’t burn as much when your core helps support them. Another idea is to imagine your arms actually start down in your waist instead of at the shoulder. Imagining this will engage the core more directly. Hope this helps! 🥰🩰✨
thank you so much! but im confused on on thing that i couldn’t find out, how fo you hug in your core? i dont get that but other than that, it was amazing! thank you!!
Here’s a little video that explains more about how to use your core: Relaxing Core Exercise ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BYOhU7MA-PQ.html Basically, you want to draw in and up on the core as if you are zipping a pair of snug jeans. At the same time try releasing the neck and shoulders so that the “work” stays below the navel and doesn’t start clenching the neck and shoulders. Hope this helps! 🥰🩰✨
I dont know how to thank you for being so delightful, so encouraging and graceful! You made me believe I can start and its never too late. Thanks for great tutorials! Keep up the excellent work please!
Thank you for your kind words! It is NEVER TOO LATE to do something you love! And the joy you have in doing it is what will bring you the most energy, health, and happiness! 🙏😊🌸🩰
I love your videos! They are so inspiring and fun. I do want to ask, as an individual with disc herniation, I experience sciatica in case of twisting back, what will be a substitute movement in this case? Thanks :)
So glad you enjoy them! I would suggest simply doing the arm movements without twisting to see how that feels. Try to focus on your core engagement. You may find that with time and greater core support you’ll be able to twist a small amount without the sciatica flare-up, but don’t push it! Every body is different and you should always respect yours! Hope this helps! 🥰🩰✨
Ma’am, I am very sorry. I tried to do it, but I don’t know. I am the blind girl that commented on one of your videos from before. The next time you do more dancing videos, can you do it with more audio description? I am sorry. I don’t have enough money to subscribe to your website so I will have to do the videos here for now. I don’t think I did the moves correctly. I tried though. r now.
I’m so impressed with your efforts! I will keep you in mind as I make new videos. Verbal description is such an important part of my teaching style and I really appreciate your request! Thank you 🙏🥰🌸🩰
Great video, I tried to follow along but I don't understand what you mean by "hugging". Should we tense certain muscle groups as if doing an imaginary hug? Someone please try to explain this to me.
I mean that you should try to lightly draw your lower core (the area below your navel) back/in and up. Try to maintain this action while softening (releasing tension) in the neck and shoulders. This will require awareness and monitoring since it’s very common to tense the neck and shoulders when we hug in the core. Hope this helps! 🥰🩰✨
I’m really proud of you, too! 😊 The sensation in your hand is probably due to all the postural stretching from this exercise. I can’t say for sure, but when you begin stretching your upper body, many areas will “wake up”. Monitor the situation. If you have worsening pain, stop and consider seeing a doctor or physical therapist-you may have a pinched nerve or structural issue that is causing this. Aside from any underlying issue, it is important to try to release tension in the head and neck as you work your core. Think of keeping a long neck, do smaller movement, and really focus on hugging in the area below the navel to support your upper body movements. Doing this ought to help and as you become stronger and more open in your posture, any discomfort should dissipate. Hope this helps! 😊🌸🩰
The way the technique works for your body will vary as every body is different. One thing that happens with this exercise is that the work can get “stuck” in the neck and shoulders. It’s important to relax these areas and instead use your core, waist, and back as the primary place of effort. Also, I encourage you to focus on your joy of movement! These suggestions should help, but please be patient and kind with yourself! I hope that ballet movement can help you love your body just as it is! 💕🩰✨
Actually, yes. Many people experience fatigue and stretching sensations when doing this work. This can result in aching and burning sensations, but these are not usually cause for concern. It's just your body stretching and developing more strength. That said, if you have any injuries or known issues, or you believe these sensations to be excessive, it is important to consult your healthcare professional for further advice. Hope this helps! Stay safe and be well!
I'm13 and I started ballet yesterday. I have to be self-taught because my family doesn't have the funds to put me in a class. I have some questions. What does it mean to hug your core and how do you do it? HOw do I know when to go to a more advanced lesson?
Hi! These are excellent questions! “Hug in your core” is a phrase I use a lot. Put your hand on your abdomen just below the navel. This is the part we want to hug in. Now inhale. As you exhale, gently draw this area in and up. I call it a “hug” because it should not be a hard squeeze or prevent you from breathing. It is a light, ongoing feeling. Taking some breaths and hugging in on the exhale is a good place to start! As far as moving up to a new level goes, this is something very individual to each person. One way to know is to be able to do your current exercises with good stability, balance, and control--Can you take your hand off the barre while doing the steps? Do you understand the concepts of each step? These are some ways to evaluate your progress. Hope this helps! Keep dancing & loving ballet! 🥰🩰🌸
Hi Tiekka! I've been having trouble feeling the strain in my core during this workout. (But I definitely felt it in my upper back and shoulder blades) I was wondering if you can point out what I might be doing wrong so I can check myself? I'm young and just trying to learn some basic ballet at home because I have always loved the art form. I'm not trying to 'lose weight' or get a 'ballerina body' as I'm not a shallow and vain person, but I am trying to get stronger so I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly! Thank you so much for these videos! I can tell you know what you're doing and I look forward to learning to dance with you! 😊
Hi--thanks for the great question! Feeling your core doing the work takes some practice. Based on what you're saying about your upper body feeling the work so much, it sounds like you are pulling up into the neck and shoulders as you draw in at the waistline. This is a very common (though incorrect) way to use your core. Instead of taking the lift through the waist into the upper body and ribs, draw in just the area below your navel. It’s a bit like the feeling of how we pull in when zipping a pair of jeans. To practice, place your hands below your navel. Inhale and feel your belly expand slightly. Exhale and draw this area back toward your spine lightly (not so hard you stop breathing). This is the core support we need for our posture and ballet movements. The pelvis should not tuck or arch. Instead, imagine you have a long tail hanging to the floor. This will lengthen the lower spine without articulating the pelvis away from a neutral state. Now hug in your core to support this light length in the lower spine. This is the position of the core and pelvis and it should not change at all as you do the exercise-especially when you twist the upper body. The hips must remain facing forward as well. You will move less but get more core work this way. Also be sure you aren’t pressing down through the shoulders. Instead, they should “release” and naturally fall away from the ears. It’s a relaxation of tension in the neck and shoulders that allows them to gently descend as you engage your core as described above.Try to firm your core without tensing the neck and shoulders. That’s the goal. Finally, be sure that when reaching over to one side that your are not collapsing in the waistline or shifting onto one foot more than the other. The waist should remain lengthened (especially the bottom side when bending) and the weight should remain equal through both feet. Of course the neck and shoulders should be released as the core hugs in. The way to master all of the above is to move a bit smaller paying attention to firming the core while releasing the neckline. Hope this helps! Xo, Tiekka
Thank you - this was great! I'm shocked that something so gentle can be so exhausting! It was much harder than it looks & everything is aching already! I only did it once 😂
🥰 Isn’t it surprising?! Ballet movements activate all kinds of little muscles people don’t even realize they have! Hope you had fun with the exercise! 💕🩰🌸
I absolutely love all your videos. I am a beginner and you have a great way to explain everything. And your love of ballet is so inspirational. Thank you so much.
This was simply wonderful! It felt stimulating, exciting, and just enough challenge without being overwhelming and discouraging. I will familiarize myself with this vide before moving on! Thank you ❤️
Wonderful! I'm so glad you found it to be right for you! Yes--a strong, stable core is at the heart of all healthy movement. I hope you'll enjoy the other videos, too!
Thank you Tiekka, this exercise was great, I started my day with this! I have a question for you: is it ok if my stance is with toes pointing outward? I have weak glutes and with toes directed front I tend to push my femurs away from one another but with heels closer than toes I noticed that I can squeeze in my glutes more easily and keep my posture better? Do you have any exercises how to improve your posture starting from the gluteal and pelvis floor area? Thank you so much
So glad you like it! You can certainly rotate your toes out a little if that works best for maintaining the stability of the pelvis. Whether your toes are open or straight forward, try actively pressing down through the legs as you do the exercise. This will help engage the legs and glutes more directly. Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes! 💕🩰✨
How beautiful it is to do a core workout while listening to the astonishing waltz of the flowers 🌸🌺🌼🌸🌺🌼 this is priceless!! Thanks for sharing your work with us!! 💜💜💜
🙏💕💐🩰You’re so welcome! It’s so inspiring to connect with this gorgeous music! Perhaps you’d also enjoy my holiday special dance-along also set to the Waltz of the Flowers. Link below 👇
Beautiful 💝🌹 thanks for the recommendation! I'm currently rebuilding my core strength after pregnancy, I'm not sure how much I can follow along, but it is definitely something to aim for 😊🙏
Great question! To “hug in your core” place your hands on your lower abdomen (about 2 inches below your navel). Next see if you can draw in that area. Try not to squeeze or hold your breath. The goal is to get your core support activated for your posture and all your movements. At first this may be hard to feel, but if you keep focusing on this area and lightly drawing it in, you’ll start getting that core strength and awareness. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! 🙏🩰🌷
I have been following your videos for a while now and they have truly become a safe space. Especially when I'm coming home from a tough day at work and need to shake off all of the frustration and stress, I put on Everyday Ballet - your presence and poise have become such calming and grounding forces in my life. Finding your channel has improved my day to day life tremendously. Thank you! I'm thinking about treating myself to a yearly subscription for my birthday. ♥︎
Oh thank you!! I am so very glad my videos help you to feel calm and safe-we all need that! It warms my heart tremendously to know you feel so much positive force from my little channel. I hope you will join the online program, as there is so much more dimension available on the Everyday Ballet platform. Again thank you for your kind words-you’ve made my day! 🙏🥰🩰
Excellent question! I mean draw in the area below your navel. Hope this helps! 💕🌸🩰😊
@@everydayballet yes thank you. what about the pelvis? in what position/angle should it be? bum tilt slightly back, forward or trying to find the 180degree vertical line?
The pelvis should not tuck or arch. Instead, imagine you have a long tail hanging to the floor. This will lengthen the lower spine without articulating the pelvis away from a neutral state. Now hug in your core to support this light length in the lower spine. 😊
So I'm 12 and I have always wanted to do ballet! Thank you so much for your help!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 I don't have the "bOdY sHaPe" but I don't care. I just want to have fun and be happy 😊😊😊
I'm so delighted that ballet is something you enjoy! You don't need to have a specific body type to enjoy and benefit from this beautiful training. And your attitude is PERFECT and JOYOUS! I love it!
I’m so glad you enjoy it! This is an excellent exercise for everyday practice to wake up your core and posture and hopefully the joy in your heart, too! 💕✨🌸🩰
Hi! I can understand your concern. It may help you to know that many professional ballerinas began doing ballet to help with their scoliosis. Because ballet develops strong core and posture, it actually tends to help the condition. Obviously, discuss any exercise program with your doctor beforehand, but I hope you will give ballet a try! :-D
Absolutely! Ballet will help you to become more flexible over time. Also, this video is good for some beginner stretching advice: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hJe0vXqs6Sw.html Hope this helps! You may also want to check out my complete online program Ballerina Body. Right now it’s on sale! 💕🌸🩰 www.everydayballet.com/ballerina-body-sale/
You’re so welcome! I’m delighted you enjoyed it. Yes, things that appear graceful actually require a lot of strength, flexibility, & balance to make them look easy… Ballet develops these areas and adds to them a feeling of grace & beauty. I’m so glad you felt it! 👏👏👏🥰🩰✨
Hi! I replied to your comment so many times, but somehow RU-vid kept dropping it... It sounds like you are not using your core, but are lifting the shoulders instead. Try to hug in your core as you lift the arms. Also, soften the tops of the shoulders. When you do this, you will feel your back, waist, and core working to support your arms. Your shoulders will definitely feel it, but you want to try to transfer some of that effort into your core and back. It may take some time, but keep practicing and you will get better at it! I hope this helps!
Just be sure to stand equally on both feet and keep your hips facing forward (even when you twist). From there, release your shoulders and hug in your waist/core. It may take a couple of times to start feeling it, but once you do, this exercise will help core strength and posture. 😊💕🩰
So glad you like my videos! You can do the exercises sur les pointes as desired and appropriate for your level. The sequences are generally simple but challenging. Beautiful simplicity is actually the hardest thing to achieve. 😊🩰🌷
