I remember watching this live and thinking “Wow, how embarrassing for the two Senators that at their big moment they aren’t getting the big celebration. Rather this man is cussing on live TV and probably won’t have a job tomorrow.” I voted for President Bush in 2004 and sat watching this as symbolic of a lethargic campaign that Senator Kerry ran coupled with a vanilla choice for Vice President.

He is the producer of the show, not a politician.

One of the legit funniest things I've ever seen on live TV. Unfortunately, American (and the world) got a bad joke for the next four years.

I meant his first general election campaign mistake (the general election campaign begins with the candidate officially accepting the party's nomination at convention). Kerry had a bunch of mistakes during the primaries ("I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it" came during the primary season...a statement that would be used against him in the general).

Yes, I remember watching it live when it happened -- too bad they had to leave out the "Where are the F-ing balloons" line, so as not to offend youtube's tender ears. This is probably what doomed the Kerry campaign.

I felt so patriotic as a moderate to Progressive Democrat watching this in 2004. The Van Halen song in the background was perfect and emblematic of the promise, excitement and dreams that the Kerry campaign offered.

Because people liked Bush better. Economically we were recovering nicely from the terrorist attacks, support for the war was still strong, and Hurricane Katrina had not yet happened. You need to remember also that Bush was very "likeable" (maybe not for you but hopefully you get what I mean) and moreso than Kerry and his weird wife.
