Lets dig right into and look at how an electromechanical slot machine converted to an "electronic" slot machine works. We have a lot to go through!
Viewer note: Due to severe technical difficulties this video has issues with video AND audio quality. Some content is merged B-roll material to salvage what content was lost.

I have practically no idea what you are talking about but I find it fascinating to listen anyway. Nice job.

Thank You! Fantastic video! I appreciate you sharing all of your knowledge, I especially enjoyed the moment you got it working! I love that feeling. I just got one of these machines, very similar. Can't wait to get it running! Thanks Again!

Well, at least you answered your questions about its history - based on your "detective work," it was last used in the Mitzvah Hotel in the early 1980's. I love when I can put together enough clues about vintage/antique stuff I've collected to figure out when it was made and last used.

Oh okay so that's why the entrances to the reel slots are kind of hook shaped so they will stop on a precise spot every time, versus on an EM machine where they are wide open and not made to snag a particular slot.

I came here after watching Big Clive's video, and that was a couple steps down the rabbit hole after Techmoan's new video about Lemmy's slot machines. I'd kind of like to have a Bally slot machine now! I grew up in Las Vegas in the 70s and 80s. That Mitzpah hotel sure sounds familiar... I must remember the name from TV ads or something? I've seen a zillion Bally slot machines, but I've actually never put a coin in one in my life. Weird, huh?

Can kinda relate. I never walked into a casino until I was 27.

@@CelGenStudios I walked into plenty of casinos. I just never did casino things in them! To be fair, most of the times I've been in casinos was before I was old enough to gamble.

So glad i found this excellent video. Already watched it 4 times! I just picked up a Golden Nugget machine exactly like yours. Was DOA. Found a broken wire in the power cable, repaired a damaged slot controller board but it still wouldn't register a coin. Thanks for the demo on how to remove the wheel assembly. I pulled it and brushed the connections reassembled and it took one nickel, dropped the handle lock. I pulled the handle and the wheels spun... and spun and spun. No solenoids pull in. I pulled them manually and if course the wheels locked. Back to not taking any coins. Any words of wisdom on where to look next?

The ILQ74 on the control board accepts the coin-in signal. You should see pin 2 pull high/low with an oscilloscope when the switch is triggered and you should see the same on pin 15 which is the output...I think. My guess is there is still a poor physical connection somewhere (and yes as you can tell there's a lot of connections) and the switch that signals the reels have started spinning isn't being seen or the percussion from the launcher is making the control board lock up, possibly there's still a battery damaged trace or socket causing problems when vibrated.

@@CelGenStudios Thank you for your reply. I Re cleaned the connections, and it reliably takes coins, nor. Still tilts when I pull the lever. Iplaced the unit in wheel diag mode by pressing the middle reset button. I checked the BCD encoding and none of the reels are displaying 2. Wheel 1 goes between 1-1 and 1-3; same for wheels 2 and 3. I took apart the wheel assembly and reflowed the solder with done fresh Flux all the connections in the photo transistor boards. No difference. It's suspect that all three wheels have the same issue... there must be something in common that is causing this.

@@richbooth8948 Unfortunately I don't have any schematics for the reel decoding. There is a BCD decoder on the CPU board (U6) so I'd investigate there and look around. That's about the best I can offer for help here...

I have a four reel all stop except#4.otherwise seems like it works. I do have the other type upper control board? Any ideas?

Is there an open ground/winding or a control voltage going to the #4 solenoid?

So how do you adjust the slot machine to be tighter or looser

That I can tell, you can't.

Cinch-Jones connectors? In my mind 120vac on that PWB is scary to me. I wonder if you tacked some LEDs onto those counter ICs you could see the action before the reels stop.

The coin hopper resembles a Klopp coin sorter mechanism.

What voltage is the battery on the control board? Did you use nicad or nickel metal hydride? I just picked up a slot machine this weekend in the estate sale set up just like yours. It hasn't been used in like 10 years what should I use to clean and lubricate the wheels?

The battery is a 3.6v Ni-Cd rechargeable. The replacement is similarly a 3.6v Ni-Cd but with a much higher current rating (600mAh) which retains the memory for much longer than the original. Clean the wheels and linkages first, then apply 3-in-1 sewing machine oil or axle grease to all linkages.

I will say this.....after emptying slot machine of coin....a lot of times the sensor that switches over flow of coin to the drop box fails......I have ended up cleaning up the slot machine of hundreds of dollars that should have been diverted to the drop box....that always sucked....

Greetings. I recently got a similar device. When I turned it on for the first time, it showed -0- on the display, then something else, then the lights blinked, in general, I decided to do it. Now I have it lying next to the oscilloscope and nothing works for me. I have a doubt about my EPROM(E). My display is behaving strangely. That is, some images, then they are not. In order for me to move on, I need a verified file from EPROM from any device. Can someone share? Can someone sell me a diagnostic ROM (file)? I'm at a dead end. Help I can send my file from EPROM. Maybe someone can check it? Sincerely, Dmitry

I have a backup copy of my EPROM however because it's a different theme the reel strips and paytable will not match.
