What a fantastic piece of history you are all preserving. I have seen the Waverley many times but was unaware of the Balmoral, beautiful👍👍 Good luck in the future.
What a beautifully sleek and graceful-looking little ship she is. The narrator on this video did a perfect presentation. Very relaxing to watch, and I enjoyed it immensly.
to all that put the time in to restoring this amazing vessel thank you so much is lost little is saved to all the people who put time in to documenting this project well done much appreciated
Oh wow! I ran away to sea on that ship when i was a young lad sailing out of Glasgow when i was 16. I was told i was an officer steward but i had no idea what i was doing. I guess it was a bunch of months later i left the boat in Bristol. Im 52 now and still wonder about her. Thank you for all the effort by all.
Superlative dedication to the project and a great documentary, with one of the emotive speakers suddenly taking me back around 50 years to The Clangers!
Hi. It is great to see the old lady still sailing , last seen sailing along the Jurassic Coast passed Old HARRY , When out on our rib . Fair winds and passengers .
Beautiful Vessel. The Drydock part of the video bought back so many memories when I was in the Navy and went through Overhaul and Drydock in various American Shipyards. I hope that when I can travel to England again after this nonsense. I get to see her and visit the HMS Victoria. Maybe even visit the pub we got barred from in 1980.
What happened to the anti-fouling as she was only supposed to be operating in fresh water 🤔 which was why she was only coated in an anti-rust primer thus saving the cost of the anti-foul paint.
We went on a trip on the Balmoral back in around 2014. from Southend to the pool of London. A lovely ship, and it was interesting to see London from the Thames. There were a couple of downsides. The ship was so packed with people you had to take turns to breathe. We also made the mistake of not taking any food with us, as we understood there was food available on board. By the time we got back to Southend we were starving, surviving all day on a packet of crisps. There was also a very long delay at Tilbury, while passengers who had to get back to Ramsgate (?) disembarked for their coaches. I of course realize that allowance has to be made for disabled people, but in an emergency, people in wheelchairs could cost lives.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Has it now got a straight prop-shaft ? Heard it was bent when on her in the late 1980s on a trip to Whitehaven from Whitehaven via (Ramsey & Douglas,) IOM. Assuming it's the same 'Balmoral' - friend of the Waverley
Following the explanations of the narrator I was always searching for a 'hall' or a 'hole' until I realized he was speaking about the hull. Being Non-English I have to rely on what I learned at school and also the Oxford Universal Dictionary tells me to pronounce the 'u' in 'hull' like the 'u' in 'nuts'. Nowadays the English language sounds pretty (or is it already 'preddy'?) American.
So.... it was all a lie then, was it? I was always told that it was the Isle of Wight ferry that was brown and came steaming out of Cowes, but the Balmoral was never brown at all, was she?
I’m so glad that all these volunteers are keeping the Balmoral shipshape, what would be great and economical is if the engines were converted to marine diesel hybrid engines.
Very nice documentary of a lovely old ship, 7 years younger than myself. I'm sure the Royal Family would come to the fore with financial support, if approached? Robert. NZ.
@@jbuckley2546 'They' bring billions to this country every year in tourism, let alone the amount of business deals worth billions also signed up in Royal visits abroad. It's time people like yourself did some research into exactly what the royal family brings to the UK, it's the envy of countries the world over.
