Welcome to my build series of the Balsa USA Stingray RC plane kit. The Stingray 120 is a great trainer and sport rc plane with an 83-inch wingspan and powered by a DLE-20 RC gas rc plane engine. I will be using a Futaba transmitter system with Futaba or Hitec servos and receiver. This plane is designed for .80 to .90 2-stroke glow engines, .90 to 1.20 4-stroke glow engines, and 15cc to 30cc gas engines. I will be using basic techniques of building rc plane balsa kits (or at least the techniques I have learned to build rc planes).
All of these videos will be placed on a playlist.
In this video I show how to build aileron servo mounts in the wings. There is no set way, so scratch building the wing servo mounting bays is fun to do. Mounting dedicated aileron servos for each wing is a good way to make sure each aileron has enough power, and if your radio system allows mixing, you can set the duel function for flaperons.
I have been building, flying, crashing, modifying, and repairing radio control planes (RC Planes) for many years and enjoy sharing what I do with the radio control plane community, so I started RC Plane Tech channel for fun. I am not an expert, there are many different techniques when building radio control planes. A good way to learn about flying and building rc planes is to see what others are doing, that's what I do and that's why I like to share what I do.

Well done. I really appreciate the great and quality work that you do. As you were adding the extra balsa strip around the servo arm I was already thinking I would have cut the slot in the plywood. The only thing I would do differently would be the order in which things were done. For example, place the servo plate over the wood support brackets and then add the trim. Would have saved you cutting the servo plate again but I guess that is how it goes when doing design builds. Well done!!

Thank you, ya placed the strips too close , then had to trim. Sometimes, or maybe a lot of times, I stumble a bit through! 😊

Awesome work !! If you want to add strength to those servo blocks you can add small wood screws on other side , just in case glue ever goes out ..

Thanks! Thats a good tip to share. Or maybe dowel them in also?

Kinda looks like the plan depicts a linear servo so the servo is totally hidden in the wing. That would have meant no control horn sticking out. Would have liked to see that build. But that’s more of a challenge. I do understand the route you’ve chosen though, most likely I would have done the same ;-)

What kind of pencil were you using? I'm loving this build series!!

Thanks, I like any basic mechanical or drafting pencil, sometimes the old school wood ones are just fine😁

511 i assume you know that when a model has an engine, servo mounts/installation Must include isolation from engine vibration. otherwise, they will glitch. d

Hopefully since these will be in the wings and the others in the tail, along with that they have rubber grommets at their attachments, the risk of a vibration induced glitch will be lower. But thanks for pointing this out!
