Baltimore Key Bridge collapses after struck by cargo ship 

I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the water. It's a tragic way to pass. My thoughts and prayers are with the individuals affected.

The Skyway Bridge over the Welland Canal is a vital road link from the Toronto area to the US border in Niagara Falls and should a ship contact one of its two high supports over the canal it would be devastating to the economy. It is 140 ft high at the highest point and carries 6 lanes of traffic and close to 200000 vehicles a day. When it was built in 1960-1963 the engineers had the foresight to understand ships can lose power and contact the bridge structure so they built large rock fill cribs on each side if both main towers such that if a ship did lose control they would hit one of these cribs. I am not aware the bridge has ever been struck by a ship,

That sure looks like it was deliberate.

Makes one want to see what is traveling towards any bridge now you`re going to cross before going across it!

Notice how high the ship rides. Probably harder to control when empty! Empties going back to Sri Lanka for goods that should be made here.

Maybe we can build bridges in sections so if collapsed we can easier take the parts and rebuild it

Touch, reach, grab because the manner the ship is moving is illegal and the person steering knows there’s no clearance at any level! The bridge wasn’t high enough. I told some people they were going to stage something and cause some damage and lives will be loss, including the people involved because they’re schemers and scammers who steal cargo! I told them it would take place or happen 3/26/2024. #national
