I've been a harsh critic of Scott and frankly all city leaders including and mostly the school board. The mayor is not bright, essentially inarticulate, over matched, doesn't have the emotional intelligence to deal with the situation, and does not take constructive criticism much to his detriment. But I can separate that from the idea that he does care. They can be totally different dynamics. Its like the mistake of saying all cops are criminals because just a few actually are. So what exactly is he supposed to do here? Good after school programs in place, 3 minute response time by the police… the government can’t raise these kids nor should they. He is correct in that it is a societal issue, a lot of these kids don’t have stable homes to instill the values and discipline they need. And I am the furthest thing from a liberal, but everything this young mayor said is true and it’s the only way a community like that can get better

Reporter fishing for the ban guns argument. Simple minds think you can solve complex problems by blaming inanimate objects. The United States has more guns than people. Were ranked number 3 in gun violence. The 5 top cities for gun violence have the strictest laws, if you removed those cities the United States would be ranked 189th in gun violence. There was no need for the Mayor to pop off, part of his job is to respond to reporters regardless of how redundant questions are. He answered the questions anyway.
