Stu Kerr was my grandad. Never got to meet him but this video always shows me how cool he was! Our family has a box full of all his shows somewhere. Used to watch them all the time growing up
Do you have any old tapes of your Grandfather in ‘The 54 Space Corp’? I watched that religiously. He even read out my name for my birthday on an episode. Never forgot that and that was 32 years ago (at the time of writing this).
i did a magic act as a little kid with stu kerr at an event at the newly opened harbor place. we did a couple of bits with the closer being me exposing the perpetual ribbon from the bag trick. he was, of course, very nice too me and i remember really liking the sound of his voice.
Hi Lance, I grew up in PG County. We were fortunate enough to get Baltimore as well as DC channels, plus my family was from Bmore. I remember your dad's show well--he certainly kept us entertained and I'm sure taught a lot of us about imagination and a sense of humor and fun.
Sad to hear of Lary's passing. Baltimore has lost another television legend. Condolences to the family. I was born in 1967 so I didn't get to enjoy "Pete the Pirate" or other early Baltimore TV kid shows but I have a fondness for the old days of television & radio broadcasting.
Stu Kerr used to come to my church in ne Baltimore every year and do a live Prof Kool show at our Thanksgiving festival. An absolute gentleman and a great entertainer.
OMG! Professor KOOL! and his FUN SCHOOL! Anyone remember Miss Spiderweb? If you do, "go pick out a prize." I used to watch Professor Kool as a kid in Woodlawn. Loved it! Any other old timers from Baltimore remember Bob McAllister?
What great memories. I was born in '48 so I spent many an hour mesmerized infront of our old Bendix TV set watching these talented individuals bring their characters to life. I also remember "Sunny" Stu Kerr doing commercials for Sunny's Surplus, and I believe he also hosted Dialing For Dollars. Does anyone remember watching Paul's Puppets featuring JoJo The Clown? Thanks for posting these great clips.
WMAR TV 2 Stu Kerr was so 'KOOL' He played so many characters including Bozo the Clown. He also played a janitor opening up the studio and based his whole show on that premise.
My sister and I were on Professor Kool! I think I did "Pie in the face". For 40+ years my mom has told me how the camera man zoomed in on my face toll the whole tv screen was filled with my face. My mom died two years ago and I love that this story brought back a fond memory of my mom's love for me. Does anyone know how I can get a tape of that particular episode? I never got to see what my mom was talking about. Would love to see my sister too.
I was born in '71 so I don't know these guys but I do have a vague memory of the Cool Professor guy. But I was a fan of the show Evening Magazine hosted by Donna Hamilton. What I remember most was Captain Chesapeake and Mondy the sea monster.
I know who John Ziemann is! He was Miss Spiderweb? Are you serious? I did not know that. He was with the Colts band before, and I know he is the president of the Marching Ravens. I love when the band strikes up the Ravens fight song as they march into the stadium, it means its time to douse the charcoal, grab one last beer, shut the tailgate, and head for the seats.
Thank you for posting this video. These guys were a big part of my childhood...back when it was ok to be a kid... I remember visiting WMAR TV Station back when it was CBS and shaking the hand Stu Kerr RIP..
THANKS for sharing this priceless footage Tom!!! See more details on Stu Kerr, Royal Parker and Lary Lewman at CrabCityKidsTV dot com ... a fond tribute by Gary Helton to some of Baltimore's memorable children's television shows and their hosts, 1950 to 2000.
Getting ready for the bus or eating breakfast circa late 50's........... Jack Wells, he had a basset I think it was, named "Foot-foot" and he even played the Foot-foot song... as a 1st or 2nd grader I loved that!
wow thanks for the video.Professor Kool was fun to watch. We need something like that for kids again. No politics or poitical correctness, a fun multi race show where kids can be kids can pretend and enjoy.
I was on Professor Kool's too, back in the 60's with my best friend in the world. Would love to find the episode and share it with her. Anyone know how???
I made a face book page about another show host George Lewis. He was Captain Chessapeak on channel 45 in Baltimore and on other stations on the east coast. This page is dedicated to his other alterego called Ghost Host. Look me up on FB called The Ghost Host Vault.
I cannot believe I'm seeing this :) I recall Ric Ocasek (80's band The Cars) said his first-ever show biz experience was on Professor Kool (Stu Kerr). So.... this interview was 1986? I never knew Stu Kerr was such a big guy..... he also did Dialing for Dollars, Bowling for Dollars? He was young in this interview...... someone who played Ronald McDonald was from Baltimore.... Ron Scott?
I've been trying to remember a show that Stu Kerr hosted - probably early 80's - may have been Little Red Caboose ... not sure. I think it was on at noon on Sat or Sun. Anybody remember or have info?
Trying to identify the dancers in the "chorus line" .... Jack Wells, Claire Beech (sp), Patches and Buddy Deane? A couple names missing, but that happens when things fade from nostalgia to history .... The people behind the cameras were prolly more interesting and talented anyway.
