In this animated feature, a deadly diphtheria epidemic strikes the remote town of Nome, Alaska. With the life-saving medicine located hundreds of miles away, the residents decide to send out a sled-dog team. Balto (Kevin Bacon) -- a half-wolf dog ignored by all except a goose, Boris (Bob Hoskins), two polar bears -- and beautiful husky Jenna (Bridget Fonda) is chosen to run but is disqualified by lead dog Steele (Jim Cummings). When the other dogs get lost in the snow, Balto risks his life to rescue them and deliver the medicine. #BALTO

2:18 I’m not saying this movie is bad but that line kinda makes me mad. The dog that actually ran the furthest was Togo while Balto in reality barely did anything.

Well...you’re honestly right. I never heard of Togo until 3 years ago and hearing all the great stuff I heard about Balto made me think that this was unfair because Togo ran the longest compared to all the other teams and Balto kinda took all that credit away from him. All in all, I respect and honor Togo, Balto, and the 21 teams that participated in the serum run...they’re all heroes...it’s not just one dog that did it.

Mr Foxy Foxa yup. The only reason people and these movie producers made Balto look like a true hero was because he did he last 51 miles and made it back with the serum. Leonhard Seppala who owned Togo was furious about this. Luckily there’s a Togo movie on it’s way and I fear people will hate it.

Mr Foxy Foxa well for one thing a lot of people hated the book about him. The comments on some videos about Togo there were a lot of hate comments. Here’s what they said: “Really this is stupid I believe in Balto. Balto is the First Dog hero.” Comment by: Rainbow Fluffer21 “Balto and Togo are the same Dog!!! 😡😡” Comment by: Andrea Carreño One of them even as far as to say that the book that was based off of his true story ripped off the Balto movie.

Me three. I watched this with my cousin for the first time. He was like an older brother to me and he was an animator. He saw the beauty of the moments in the movies, but he also saw the hard work and dedication by the men and women who made it happen. Thank you Balto for giving me one of the best memories I have of my cousin. May they both rest in peace.

Togo, balto you are both heroes of Nome you saved them, Togo even though you didnt get the recognition you deserved i know that you are proud that you did your best to save those kids and I know you hold no ill will against balto cause you passed your torch and spirit onto him as guidence You are loved by me, Balto you were a strong and brave boy and did your best as well it was a long journey you did and received glory for it and wanted to share with togo. Both of you saved Nome and both will be dedicated into people's hearts forever more

@@ronaldguadamuzz7678 Yeah, but then there's like 21 other teams who also helped. Plus all the other dogs on both Balto and Togo's teams. I assume they made a statue of Balto because he was leading the team who got to Nome, so it was easier to make a statue of him than of a dog they probably never even saw in their life. Also it would be near impossible to make a statue of all the dogs

But Balto managed to find the way, he had also a dangerous road towards Nome Just imagine if Balto hadn't found a way. Togo and Balto and all dogs are heroes not only Togo

Balto and Jenna deserved to be together. That last part, though, where Rosy thanked Balto's statue was an amazingly great moment. I loved this movie so much, I would watch it until the day I died if I could.

In a way it was mainly Togo who made the final steps to Nome. Balto was a part of the race to Nome, but wasn’t completely the dog that saved every sick child in Nome. The medicine was passed from masher to masher until it the final stretch ! Both dogs were heroes! Without their speed and strength! And their quick thinking mashers. We’d be telling a different story. One that could have left Nome completely helpless!

It's not strange, this emotion of missing a specific species that's significant for Earth's existence or someone rather precious to you can even happen with wild animals. I'm emotional enough to wild canines' lives worldwide to once in a while cry at my house about their hardest experiences. It's the canine family that helps me form clear pictures of who I am.

While I do agree that it is kind of unfair that the movie is called Balto, when it was Togo who ran the longest, but honestly the whole movie has so much heart that I do not believe there was any malicious intent on the part of the makers. If nothing else, I think they combined all of the dogs into one character and called him Balto like they do in many historical movies. Never the less those who trully love this film almost certainly know the real story behind it and probably would not have were it not for the film.

I remember this movie when I was 8 years old, it always the "gran finalle" of cartoon programs of my country (I'm from Brazil). I had a VHS and I used to watch this every single time, at lunch time, at breakfast... After a long long time, I saw that Old woman was the Rosie on movie, and also noticed that a memorial is about a someone heroic or important to the City/Country Who was already dead. Today I'm 28 and I keep myself in tears with that moment.

2:45 when my teacher showed me this movie when I was in 2nd grade, ahe said that they're would be a big twist at the end and to pay attention. When we learned that the Grandmother is the elder Rosy, we all we surprised and had smiles on our faces. To this day it was one of my favorite rainy day recesses

Granny Rosie guess that fits but in the flashback when she was a kid and said to balto hugging him tight " thank you balto I would have been lost without you" and the same in the end when she is an elder walking in the park with her granddaughter looking at balto's statue saying the same thing she said that melted my heart I almost cried.

I always believed that all the dogs on all the sled teams were represented in one character who was named after the final lead dog. The story wouldn’t have been able to be made personal for the audience if they didn’t do it that way.

Ishiro Tanaka I would love that and I think getting a real wolfdog to play Balto. Who is similar to Jed the Wolfdog from the original The Thing. I pick Jodi Benson as Live Action Jenna and Jim Cummings reprised as Live Action Steele.
