Bam Adebayo has been a major part of helping the Miami Heat climb up the Eastern Conference standings, and despite Bam Adebayo playing at a DPOY-level and having the best offensive season of his career, he's still largely ignored by most.
Adebayo should most definitely be an All Star alongside Jimmy Butler. His defensive impact may not show up in the box score, but it's very much there. He's an incredibly underrated passer, and Bam's mid range ability has blossomed into a reliable offensive weapon.

Bam has been great this year! Now as a Celtics fan I can't stand the guy, lol, but that means he's doing a lot right. He impacts the game in so many ways. I'd have him in over Jimmy this year.

Bam shall be a frontrunner for DPOY instead of all these drop bigs. Another underrated aspect of defensive bigs is whats happening after they block/contest the shot. The majority of bigs (including JJJ) are out of play straight after block, either celebrate and need to restore position. Bam is out there starting transition / securing the paint, never out of moment.

One of the main reasons why his assists are down this year is because his teammates continue to brick 3s (33.5% this season). His dribble handoffs are one generator of assists for him. If you look at how bad the 3pt shooting of Strus, Robinson, and Lowry have been as well from passing to their catch & shoot 3s, you'll see why Bam's assists are low this season. Heat are dead last in the PPG (108.5) while in 2nd in the OPPG (108.1).

Thank you for saying this in your video, its like everyone thinks that you have to shoot 3's in order to space the floor, when thats simply not true. If your knocking down a consistent mid-range, then a player can space the floor just as well as a 3 point shooter.....

Great video, great analysis. This league values blocks so much and loud defensive plays. JJJ and Nic Claxton are getting talked about for their season when Bam has been doin what they’re doing now for years but there’s almost no buzz about him nationally. He really could be an All Star, All Defensive team, DPOY and All NBA player this year

Happy you pointed out his screening ability. Not many people see this as an aspect of playmaking. But it is to a degree. And he’s excellent at it. Always provides the right angle on the pick because he knows where the ballhandler wants to go with it. Seems to always be on the same page as them and often will readjust for that second or even third screen action on the P&R play. You see it a lot with him and Herro

The key word above, even sperated from the main focus of the players, was the word TYPE. KG was the first iteration of this build. Chris Bosh, growing up, mirrored his game after KG. The very same Chris Bosh, who played in Miami and consistently has influence in the Miami heat organization. I'm pretty sure Chris Bosh has worked with Bam. Coming full circle that Bam is a KG type product. So yes, they can be spoken within the same breath because they share build similarities and greatness, so thank you, sir, "bro said KG" was an amazing argument. 👏

Reason is because he is not a showboat and doesnt play because of highlights or to entertain people but to win. He plays the right way. He is also not that active in social media, he is basically a low key guy with a passion for the game thats why less people notice him. Most people notice players from the highlight reels

Bam absolutely deserves to be an All-Star this year. I think people are down on him because he didn't really stand out in the playoffs last year outside of a few moments. Also, the Heat just stink offensively. Last time I checked, they are dead last in offensive rating. No spacing, not any kind of motion, no scoring or shot creation outside Bam, Jimmy, or Herro and Jimmy can only really score in the interior. They need guys who are more offensively skilled than what they have right now.

I’ve been high on bam since his 2nd season. I feel like over the last 2-3 years he hasn’t necessarily improved a lot, and he has has moments when going against players like Giannis and embiid he completely shrinks away. Great player, I just want him to prove it against the other great bigs.

Its funny being a heat fan over the last 10 years. Going from the LeBron era where all the eyes are on you to the Wade, Bosh, Whiteside era where the remnants of the Bron era media are, to now where we basically get 0 media coverage. Its only recently that Bam got some media recognition when the Inside guys put him basically as a lock on their all-star reserves list (other than Shaq, surprise2). This vid from Alex will hopefully push that forward even more

Pretty much all of my votes had Bam in the East frontcourt because he was barely seen on the All Star vote returns and I thought he should be in the All Star game. I'm sure no one is interested but I'll just write out my selection based on who deserves it, not who would want to watch it. West backcourt Starters: Morant, Luka Reserves: Fox, Lillard, Shai, Curry West frontcourt Starters: LeBron, Sabonis, Jokic Reserves: George, Markkanen, Zion(replacement: Davis) East backcourt Starters: Mitchell, Brown Reserves: Harden, Kyrie, Trae, Haliburton(replacement: DeRozan) East frontcourt starters: Tatum, Giannis, Durant(replacement: Embiid) Reserves: Bam, Siakam, Jimmy those would have been perfect selections for me.

He's so much more than an All-Star. Beyond the whole 3 point thing, you'd be extremely hard pressed to find a single guy, regardless of position, that can do what Bam does. He does deserve better. He deserves a franchise that's going to be aggressive in building a championship team, which Miami doesn't seem to be pushing very hard for this year. I'm a Heat fan, but paying damn near 50 million/year for Lowry to average 8 points a game and Duncan Robinson to barely play is ludicrous.

Definitely deserves a berth, especially now that the Heat are playing more consistently. I do think however that it would be best for Miami play Bam at the 4 more often, and find another big that they can put in at center. I would have suggested Myles Turner, but the Pacers just extended him. Miami is a small team, and they will need size to battle against the top teams in the East

In 2022-23 NBA Season Bam Adebayo advanced stats are: PER 20.8 (an all-star level, but nowhere close to superstar (28+) levels, numbers Giannis and Jokic have put up multiple times) TS 58.6% (moderate and "equal" to Giannis but still #205 rank in the league and Jokic is 70.2%). WS/48 of 0.144. Basically barely all-star level of ws/48 whereas Giannis and Jokic have put up seasons of 0.250 or higher. OBPM 0.8 DBPM 0.9 BPM 1.7 These are TERRIBLE BPM numbers. At 25, we pretty much know what Bam Adebayo brings to the table. He isn't Jokic, He isn't Giannis, and He is no superstar in the making. Bam Adebayo is a decent sidepiece. Not a team you build around.

No one’s talking about him because the Heat are trending down. Basketball ‘analysts’ don’t acknowledge what I call ‘cultural inertia’ enough in trying to understand player narratives. His team is trending down from last year, so even though he might be having the best season of his career in many ways, it’s not translating to a sufficient amount of success to move the needle. So he gets ignored to an extent such that his increased individual stats are swept under the rug. It’s the same reason Jayson Tatum’s star is still rising - his team is ascending as he is. It’s easy for laypeople to look at his performance and attribute Boston’s success largely to Tatum taking another leap this year. Even though there’s a strong case to snub Tatum for ASG starter, he got the spot because he’s the best guy on the best team right now.
