Here we get a close look at the lovely faces of Guillermina, Bambi, and Maia as they stand along the fence line after dinner. Guillermina is there to check for scraps from her neighbors’ piles, as well as to get some good quality time with her friends. You can see that Maia reaches over to hug her friend’s head and also gives Bambi a quick scratch on the face. You may notice that Bambi’s facial injury is gradually healing. For a while, Maia’s physical touch would rub off the salve on her cheek, but Maia is much more gentle now and Bambi is recovering nicely.
Guillermina wants to make sure she gets her special amount of time with the other two elephants, so she circles around Bambi and Maia, making her place at the end of the line, next to Maia. Both friends are sticking close to Bambi, as she is learning more about how to navigate a loss of vision and increasing usage of her other senses. If she calls to Maia, Maia will always come. Bambi also seems to feel comfortable around Guillermina, though Guille will sometimes take the opportunity to steal a few bites of Bambi’s leftover hay. All in all, it was a relaxing afternoon for all three girls.
