BAMM @ King's 2014 Jody Giesser:Intellectual Property for the Mosaicist 

Thank you for posting this! As an artist whose work was just blatantly copied by another mosaic "student" artist in another country, I found Jody's talk timely and helpful. I'm going to look into the Berne Convention, at least for the language to use in a letter to the violator. Several people have come into the discussion claiming that it's ok to copy a work for "study," but I reject that idea. Copying ancient works, or works in the public domain by deceased artists, perhaps. But printing out photos of my work from my website and constructing a sculpture that mimics mine, utilizing my photos to exactly recreate the pattern and color and texture - that's unethical. We as artists should protect one another's copyrights and prohibit students from doing such offensive copying in our courses and workshops.
