People are saying “none of the houses are worth the price” because it’s Nigeria. Yet you have your wealthy people from Nigeria buying properties abroad for extensive amount of money. Why not spend it in your country? If it was the same house in Miami, Beverly Hills, or London no one would be saying such things. Let Africa be great. I love your videos, keep it up.

As I see this, I feel sorry for Nigeria. Banana Island was once a fishing island formed when Gedegede was demolished and sandfilled. The place was then known as Balensoro, mainly occupied by the Ègún (Ogun) and later by Ìlàjẹ fishermen that were displaced from Maroko when it was demolished in 1991. My late father was a fisherman there then. We were living there as a family. Actually, we were called squatters but we were producing fish to feed Lagosians (although that was not the only fishing place in LAGOS at the time). My father raised the money for my undergraduate studies from there. Today, I am a lecturer. But why did I feel sorry at all when a country is being developed? This is not development at all. It is a mere show of luxury. Lagos has literally destroyed all the fishing beds in her lagoon. The constant drive to reclaim land is ecologically dangerous. We are building poverty for the next generation. All the breeding grounds of the fishes in Langbasa (Lagos Lagoon) are being destroyed with a great danger of ecological imbalance that will soon lead us to starvation. We should know that development is not only in structural beauty; it has to include productive economy. Europe and America will not sacrifice their agricultural endowment for fancy buildings that are less productive. Don't tell me Banana Island is meant to solve housing problems in Lagos, the number of people being housed is so low compared to the need for housing. Those houses are not meant for people that desperately need accommodation to be productive. It is meant for people that crave luxurus segregation in the land filled with poverty. Please, if a have offended anyone, I tender my apology. I never meant to hurt anyone order than the raw truth. God bless Nigeria. God bless you all!

I particularly love your videos on luxury real estate and buildings in general, I love seeing how things are done differently. With all due respect, I see a lot of criticisms, and suggestions and do this or that. I'm tired of responding individually, so I'll just say this: a Nigerian person or people (not aliens) had the initiative to develop Banana Island and whatever your thoughts, it is Nigeria's premier real estate. Provided you are able-bodied, nothing is stopping you from building your own estate that has all the architectural, construction etc. attributes an estate should have so we can also hail you. In the meantime, save your criticisms on efforts that have been made by a private citizen who is no different from you.

It is nothing like Manhattan,I can buy 3 beautiful property paid in full in newyork city with $1 million .this is not worth it at all...

My Ogudu G. R. A is also a very quiet area with good road network, no flood, constant clean water supply, electricity, restaurant, club house etc. This Banana island is just overpriced

The sale's pitch is good but there are many gaps and concerns about this iver priced area. There are no constant electricity, no established security,no emergency coordinated response force, no tap and free clean water nor ultra modern hospitals for the average and rich folks here.

These prices are insane! It seems as if Banana island is on a swamp and if so then all this infrastructure is a waste of money. Look at Louisiana and the yearly flooding. What flood prevention interventions have been put in place?

Why on earth in nigeria that they don’t usually add outdoor space or garden at the back? It’s not luxury living by just the high cost of these houses. Luxury also means outdoor living. Add back yard space and cost it. But these houses are highly over priced for maximum or triple profits. It’s not because of lack of land space. So disappointing. This is Baracks for the rich. No driveway. No backyard space. Swimming area lacks deck area or BBQ space. For how much? So sad. Where is government to regulate the building of these houses? Govt can ensure that they live a backyard space of this and that diameters. From Fence to the actual start of the building at the sides should be this and that. Etc for example. But nothing like that in nigeria. You can squeeze in four houses together and call it terrace or triplex or mansion like this one. Pls this is no luxury living in a place like nigeria where there is land. The banana island Developper are just greedy selling per sqm for that outrageous amount. Foreign Developers will also come over here and do what they cannot try in their own country.

You can have a house like this in Rwanda for less that 400 000$ and no need for security coz the whole damn country is secure, not a place where you pay 1M$ and sleep with 1 eye open coz you fear even your own security guards and are a target for kidnappers.

$1m? Wow! As a first time homebuyer, if I invest that money by buying in Toronto, Vancouver, London or New York, it would appreciate a lot faster than Banana Island. Overpriced real estate. Don't see any great architectural features to warrant such appraisals. Smh. Good video though.

Love it! but I don't like the idea of having to drive out of the estate, if I need something real quick to eat or use at home. At least get one or two luxury supermarkets in the estate.

I will rather use that money to build a castle in my village and buy a brand new helicopter to travel around the country.

It is sad that my hostel here in South Korea is more luxurious than building that cost more than 1M USD. So sad 😢 it made me cry.

This is a nice video but honestly the price is really not worth it at all. I guess it is just due to the fact that some rich and famous people like Dangote and Linda Ikeji live there. Y'all should know that banana island is expensive just because it's "banana island" (rich man's island). The demands for the property outweighs the supply here in Nigeria. All these idea about landscaping, greenery, luxury shops, etc are all secondary fantasy - let the buyers and moneybags worry about it.

Watching from Toronto. I don’t see the reason that the prices are so expensive. There are no theatres, Sports arena, restaurants, cafes, train etc nearby. Maybe I am missing something.

Millionaire Island. It is over priced, with nothing to compliment it. No upscale side walk restaurants, bars, small upscale convinient shopping stores, no lifestyle luxury. It's just has massive modern Buildings with high level security for the super rich. I want that Who's who community social feel like Monaco or Beverly Hills. It’s a beautiful and serene environment... of course not for an average person trying to secure their first home. This is definitely a case of “if you have the money, go for it”! 😀

When I visited the place in 2013, I just could not see anything spectacular in it, except that Mike Adenuga and some billionaires live there. I prefer the serenity of Ibadan's Bodija estates to it. Living in Banana Island is utter madness and gross misappropriation of funds and resources. It seems some people just stormed on their fortunes overnight. It's for government patrons. A responsible businessman would not live there!

Houses here in the US are built with wood , I keep telling my colleagues that we have solid beautiful structures back home , but Nigeria leaders will steal money and come over here to buy wooden houses... that’s crazy

This the problem with Nigeria. The average man can't have a good life.. The rich try as much as possible to extend the difference between.. It's a pity. different from the western world.

This to me is clearly one of the most overpriced estates I have seen. I still see the same architectural design you'll see in Magodo, Agege, Festac, Maryland, but for a few houses. I expected something better, something more jaw-dropping and wow. We still see visible drainage, sidewalks are not friendly to wheelchair users or parents who still have their kid in the pram, the roads and not particularly even, the houses are too close to each, mainly because everyone is maximizing the portion of the land bought. Compare this to GRA Ikeja even though that has been dephased and everywhere is built up now, you have the luxury of very large compounds, beautiful gardens, etc same with Ikoyi literally just next door. I expected the same and even better within an estate with such a price tag. However, I must admit in comparison to most areas within the metropolis, it is exclusive and quiet.

Thankful to stumble upon this video. I am Nigerian but live in New York City. I'm fascinated by Banana Island because it is a neighborhood for the super-rich. However, I wonder how it is from a value perspective. For example, once you buy this multimillion naira/dollar home, is that it? Does the property appreciate? You live there but what if you want to leave and move to the next best thing (when I was younger, I remember it was Ikoyi and Victoria Island, Banana obviously didn't exist) what is the resale value? Or do owners take the loss and abandon outright, which we know changes places for the worst? I recognize I'm asking this from an American perspective, where homes are frequently bought and sold, but I sincerely wonder.
