@thebarbaryghostsf: Because it was released in 1993 not in 1989! Plus, it wasn't properly promoted and Stock, Aitken & Waterman were already out of fashion...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fbIf it was the nineties, they had a lot of competition. The nineties had TLC, NSYNC, the Backstreet boys were really hot then and rhythm and blues, pop and rap popped the charts.
Mostly, I like the originalversions...but Steps Version with the fast beat, the better singing and the better voices ( for instance Claire! ) is...in my ears-better:-)
Pete Waterman's concept was 'Abba Banana', but this original version is like one of their slower songs like 'Fernando'. The Steps version is improved by the faster tempo.
I didnt know the Steps version was only a cover. This original version just screams ABBA to me though I love Steps' take on this coz it's danceable and it just gives me nostalgic feels all over! Nevertheless, both sound lovely!
Can we take a minute to appreciate the power dressing and beautiful accessories (gloves) hair and make up! YES! I prefer this the one and only original.
Both versions are good but it's not hard to see why Steps' version succeeded. The Steps version is far more upbeat and danceable which was a big thing when they sung it. This version has that monotonous beat behind it making it less upbeat. But both versions are still excellent.
Fantastic track and great pop song. Can't believe I've only just discovered it. Better than the Steps version (it was a cover?!), more fitting to the lyrics, at least it is for me.
Grandes interpretes las Bananarama. Queda su música en el recuerdo con canciones tan bellas como éstas. Estupenda la coreografia de los bailarines y del grupo que lo hacen de fabula. Me gusta mucho el video clip.
The image of the two of them at 2:40 with Keren languidly stretching her arms across the chairs and showing off her amazing legs... absolutely stunning!
I didn't know anything about Bananarama, so a funny incident happened to me. I found a tape of Dschinghis Khan songs somewhere, and there were two songs at the end. For twenty-six years I thought that the band "Dschinghis Khan" performed them, and only a couple of days ago I found out that both songs ("Movin´ On", "last thing on my mind") belong to Bananaram.
First time hearing this song, I thought it was an original song of STEPS. But in fairness the original was very good to listen to, why at that time it was released was a flop when it is really a great song.
I believe there was renewed interest in ABBA around the time this song was produced (early 1990's). Sounds like ABBA is a compliment in my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing.
I read that the producer of their album, 'Please Yourself' wanted to make an album that is inspired by ABBA, that's why this and 'Movin' On' sounds like an ABBA song.
You're right. Sounds totally like ABBA (specifically "Fernando"). Sounds 15 years older than the Steps cover, which I actually love, but this original version... not so much
@@arthurb5803 Yeah! Thank GOD somebody understood! That was precisely the mood in the early 90's (the band Erasure also did some ABBA-esque tribute songs by that time)...Bananarama's 1993 "Please Yourself" album was sort of an ABBA tribute...just check also the lead single, "Movin' On"...that whole album was actually a 70's Disco retro album...
Steps vs bananarama I chose steps because i am more familiar with steps i only started to like bananarama 3 weeks ago and i wasn't born when steps or bananarama was around
I didn't even know this song was originally sung by Banarama and until now I thought this was one of Steps original songs. But in the Steps version I noticed that it used a drum break fill sampled from Right said Fred's I'm too sexy. That's how I came across this version.
Steve Mizo: You must be kidding! The Steps version seems like a carnival karaoke 3rd rate one and dated as hell...this original displays pristine vocals and it sounds a bit retro/vintage because that was the point...this was sort of a ABBA-esque tribute...no wonder Pop music is a disgrace nowadays...people don't have a clue on how good music sounds like anymore...
No idea that this version was the original!!! I thought that "Steps" originally did it, but I guess that my thought was a lie... This version is great, but the "Steps" version is AMAZING!!!
The album version is exactly the same as this video version. But there IS an upbeat Bananarama version - the Hi NRG Mix. It exists in a 7" mix and in a 12" mix. Why they didn't use this mix for single release is beyond me. Check it out 😉
In 1978, I thought Debbie Harry and Blondie (Denis) was the ultimate in cool. I found out later Randy & Rainbows did the original (Denise) in 1963. There is nothing ever new in music unfortunately.
I love both Abba and Bananarama , I really do. However, is this tune supposed to sound like Abba? Don't think so. Only a few parts are similar to "Fernando"
miguel seura: It was a tribute, but they didn't meant to copy "Fernando's" chordes or whatever...that is a stupid assumption...just because someone tributes an artist it doesn't mean a copycat...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb excuse me . Did you read what i said? I think is more stupid to reply angrily without taking your time to read what someone else wrote. Did i mention the word "copy"? I don't think so. On the contrary, abba had many different songs. This one had some parts which were similar to Fernando. It doesn't represent the whole abba sound. This tune doesn't sound like dancing queen, waterloo. Super trouper and many other. Read carefully before saying someone else's comment is stupid
@@miguelseura7980 But that was their purpose...to do a tribute to ABBA...it's supposed to NOT SOUND THE SAME...but to have a slight remembrance...that was what I was trying to say...I didn't reply angrily...I just pointed the facts...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb first. A tribute is what Cher did, or the a-teens with their album The ABBA Generation, ot even what Bananarama did covering Waterloo. 2. You said my comment was an stupid assumption. That's disrespectful. I just said it doesn't sound like abba to me. It only reminds me of Fernando in some parts. It's what i think and that's none of your bussinness
@@geordiechris121 Original was a little too slow. Considering that SAW produced it it should have had more oomph. But Steps stepped it up. :D Took it to where it should have been.
