Thanks for all you hard work. It was a pleasure to watch. Akane doesn't play drums, she plays music on her drums. Everything she plays has a purpose within the song. It's one thing to play hard and loud, it's totally another to do it with so much musicality. The professor (rip) retired for a reason in 2015, he had to pass the torch to Akane. Cheers!
There are technically skilled drummers all over the place but Akane's ability to read the music and play what is needed to enhance its sound is amazing..... !!
The skill of AKANE is that her playing never intrudes into a song. It can drive a song along and it can add depth to any piece. But it is never show off until that smile lights up the room and she is encouraged to enjoy herself. I do know she is my favourite.
One of the best rock drummers of all time, playing for the best band of all time!!! Akane plays at a the highest level with the most gorgeous smile. Thanks for putting this video together….I can’t help but LOVE Akane ❤❤
Many thanks for you fancams :) I clicked on Thrill 3 years and two days ago - then I watched so many of your 2019 videos - those up close videos showed how great they were. I was hook, line and moe moe :)
The cute, smiling, talented banana eating gorilla is amazing. ❤ Akane and Misa, what a team and with MIKU❤ KANAMI❤ and SAIKI added the results are phenomenal ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have been playing drums for decades, played in HS marching band. In college drummer in club bands, performed 100's of shows live. That was a few decades ago, but love music and really enjoy Akane's playing. She does many things I love. Her relaxed style while playing fast tempos and often complex patterns on the toms and double bass pedals that fits the music brings me joy.
"Joy" is the apt word for her - she plays with it and she gives it to us. It's rare that a drummer in a band can be so responsible for the so many of the band's fans.
Akane is one of the best drummers in hardrock ever, she makes amazing drum patterns on a standard 5 piece kit. I've be fortunate to see her play live 4 times the last two years, and I very much look forward to see her again as soon as possible. I hope Band-Maid will play in Japan in late November as I will visit Tokyo at that time. Akane is my favorite drummer and gorilla, playing drums in my favorite band of all times, Band-Maid. Greetings from Norway 🙂
Thank you for this wonderful highlight reel of Akane. She, like the rest of her friends/sisters/bandmates is a joy to watch and her wonderful smile, while drumming, brings joy to my heart and I bet others. I don’t know of many other drummers that write out the musical score for their drum parts. Akane does. Akane like the rest of Band-Maid are humble individuals and yet consummate musicians pursuing excellence in their craft while bringing so much joy.
Many thanks for watching :) An old saying - "Beauty is a weapon and a smile is its sword." Akane knows how to wield that sword! lol She's my number 1 drummer..
The thing I like about Akane is how much she does with so little. It is true with a lot of the younger drummers they are doing so much more than drummers with massive drum kits. I in my opinion those drummers are becoming dinosaurs. A lot of drums just are not necessary,
I'm not qualified to judge "best rock drummer", but she's certainly the most JOYOUS rock drummer I've seen, and the one who makes me smile the most. I'd rather watch/listen to her than any other drummer on the planet.
Yeah I'd happily watch her do a sound check for a couple of hours. Her latest drum piece on BM Prime is a great example of why she's so good & popular. Thanks for watching :)
In _Daydreaming_ you noted her backing the lead vocal but never intruding, she does the same behind (a very nervous) Miku in _-Time-_ ETA >> _TIME_ in the Line Cube concert recording - she backs off on the snare during the verses but still hits it with authority and somehow it just fits perfectly.
She is a very nuanced player. As much as I love her pounding the drums in the quick stuff, it's the little bits she does in the mid-slower tempo stuff too. I will check out Time form LCS today...many thanks.
Thanks for putting this together. Akane is by far my favorite rock drummer. I have a pair of her signature drumsticks that were given to me. I've seen Band-Maid live 8 times, including the Yokohama and August Hall shows that appear in this video. Her drumming is just so spicy and captivating, and I love her double kick and intricate fills. I saw Band-Maid last month at Day of Maid and they opened with Black Hole - what a way to blast into the set!
I'm saving hard to go see them in Japan next year, can't wait to hear Akane live. She is top of my list of drummers as well. She is very key to their detailed sound.
Akane Hirose: one of my favorite drummers! I grew up listening to drummers like Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cobham, and Ginger Baker. All men. I never had a favorite female drummer... until now. I wish I were rich or famous, then I could hire Band Maid often to play for me. And I could listen to all of these talented musicians (Akane, Miku, Saiki, Kanami and Misa), and my dream... to have a date with each of them ! Until then, I hope they come to Los Angeles once again before they retire!
I know artists who have vomited blood and eaten bats on stage, but isn't this the only one who has thrown banana peels? She's the best drummer I've ever seen!
Thanks for the compilation! Eight years ago I watched my first BAND-MAID video, Don't let me down, while I clicked on it because of Miku in the thumbnail, it was Akane's relentless drumming that hooked me.
Senri is awesome too! I found another called Yuriko Seki [former drummer for Tokyo Groove Jyoshi] who's got some great drum solos on RU-vid. Thanks for watching :)
@@ThouDailyBlab Thank you for your response. Yup, I have been very impressed with her drumming as well (especially TGJ's cover of What's hip). And thank you for your great Akane highlight. I enjoyed it a lot. I love Akane and Senri because of their skills and their smiles and personalities.
No. She's a good drummer, and deserves recognition, but there's nothing beyond the upper-intermediate skill level. She wouldn't be able to play something like Meshuggah, or the more advanced Gojira songs, for instance. I like Band-Maid, not trying to be negative.
And yet you are being negative, judging what she might be able to do based only on what she has done. She is a perfect fit in the context of Band-Maid. You have no way of knowing what she could do in another context.
@@roqy It's a simple analysis of techniques, coordination, and applied patterns. You can tell a drummer's level of expertise by breaking down *how* they're playing something, what patterns they rely on heavily, where their shortcomings may still lie (we all have them) and what they appear to be avoiding. Beyond that, there is also time centre and beat placement. She keeps good time but it doesn't have the same pocket as a world class player. These aren't meant to be negatives -- she would probably agree with me, and it's the person making the video who's putting her on the pedestal of the world's best players, not Akane herself. She never asked for that, she just has a superfan.
@@johnknight9150 I don't dispute your assessment of her current work. I'm assuming you have the knowledge to match your vocabulary. The only thing that nags is the implied judgement, intended or not, that because this is what she is, this is all she can ever be. I don't buy that. They say that success is 10% inspiration, 90% perspiration. She has generated enough perspiration to be able to play a thirty song plus, three-and-a-half hour plus set and come out the other side smiling. Given the proper inspiration I suspect she could learn whatever is needed. But their music isn't technical. They don't set out to impress with the number of notes they can play, they are passion based and their music makes you feel something. In that context, she plays with a high level of musical intelligence and appropriateness. Enough so that back in 2016 Jimmy Page requested a photo with her and compared her favorably to John Bonham. She's noticeably better now. The passion in their music (along with their humility) is also why their fan base is so wildly enthusiastic and tends to idolize them. I don't go that far, but they are one of only three groups that have convinced me to spend money on CD's since the eighties.
@@roqy Whoah, whoah, "ever be"? Heck no. How could anyone know such a thing? I'm a firm believer that these skills can all be learned consciously. And her chops have noticeably improved year over year. Though I'm not sure I understand your argument when most of the footage here is from her soloing, where Band Maid's music is no longer dictating any limitations and she's free to play whatever she likes. If I can be a bit harsh for a second, during her solos, she's doing stuff that sounds cool to a casual listener, but there's really nothing particularly difficult happening. Most intermediate drummers could replicate it with a bit of time, and any advanced drummer could replicate what she's playing without any difficulty. If we were talking about food, it's like comparing a great dish that's a town favourite and recommended to tourists with a world famous Michelin star restaurant that other chefs from around the world would visit to study and learn from. Nothing wrong with being the town-favourite restaurant, it's just the person who made this video is putting her on the level of the Michelin star of the world masters and she just doesn't have those chops. Yet. [edit: Actually, that chef analogy isn't very good because it would imply Band-Maid's appeal are just local, not international. But I think you probably get my point, the difference between "this is great, check it out" and the contenders for world's best.]
