Simply a master class in songwriting. In 2017 they played it a lot live (when touring JBI), but it would cool if they brought it back once in a while (I mean besides the lucky-ducks in Japan who got it a few times in 2023 :)
Luv this song. "Matchless Gum" from the same concert is a MUST. Just another example of Kanami goin off in her own little world with a crazy solo that doesn't fit but fits perfect. She's a genius.
@2:43 It feels like somethings about to happen, but it's just forshadowing @4:29 this is the real deal, and you're ready for it. The drum roll into the solo, and one of Mincho's best, into the last chorus, and Mincho's bonus outro solo that's, like you said, smooth like butter. What a great rock song and what a great performance!
Back for more. I did enjoy this one. A deep cut that has been off my radar, unfortunately. Back on, thanks to you! Not as “catchy” or straightforward as many of Band Maid’s songs, which is probably why it doesn’t get as much traction outside of hardcore fans. But holy crap. What a creative song! Like you said, the groove is deep in the beginning. I could put that on a loop and jam over it for days. And then there’s Kanami’s four note motif, a little bit R&B, a little bit rock and roll? Then a wild punk rock, Police/Blondie segment…what’s happening? Finishing up with the original chord structure and Kanami delivers in her signature style. A completely different type of solo from what we hear on rock records. If you didn’t know she’s inspired by Larry Carlton and Carlos Santana before, you probably do now. 😊 Thanks for sharing the Maids with everyone today 🤘🏽
Glad you liked it! I feel like it should have more traction as it is, like you said, a super creative song! I really enjoyed it! But, honestly, there's not been a single Band-Maid song yet that I haven't liked!
I love this live track. It's in my top 5, but never gets played enough. Genius composition by Kamami yet again. Kanami's outro solo just kills me- I've died and gone to heaven.
This is my favourite song by them, it's a thing of beauty.. There is only one song better than "Awkward" in my opinion, and that is the Band-Maiko version "Akasimahen" - it's phenomenal!
oh god i love awkward. my trilogy for them is puzzle, moratorium and awkward. the way that after each small part that they do goes into the next verse and it just keeps building
Rare footage, Po! With many Band Maid songs flowing in and out of my top 3, this always remains as #1. I hope they do a refresh and extended acoustic version in March, Po! 🦍🍌
Her voice always sounds stronger or rockier live with more emotion. I didn't like studio version when I first discovered Band-Maid solely because of it.
@@lurkmerchant I think they’ve been getting better at recording closer to her live energy as time has gone on, like she sounds great on the Unleash EP and Shambles. Live, there’s a spectrum. It seems to take a few songs for her voice to fully warm up, and at the end of a long set, she can wear down. But she sounds totally in the zone here, and her voice sounds exceptionally warm, like you’re getting a hug from her voice.
Ahhh, and a rare glimpse of MIKA finger picking. I'll have to watch this again to see if MISA used fingers this entire show.....it has been a while since I've watched it. If she did then I wonder when she switched to predominately using a pick.....interesting. Glad you made it back on my algorithm, It's been a while and I like your format.
This is the Studio Coast recording - you probably knew that, but yeah she predominantly used a pick. I like her pick work, it really cuts through the mix, but her finger work is just so funky.
