Band-Maid doesn't do many ballads, but when they do, THEY'RE AWESOME! Every once in a great while, Band-Maid will release songs like "Page", "Smile", or "About Us", songs that present an uplifting message, ballads if you will. Nine times out of ten they'll melt your face, but then they will show you the true power of the Maid's by melting your heart.
the Maids recently opened for INCUBUS in Tokyo and Mike Einziger(co writer) joined them on stage for the world live premiere of Bestie. new album coming end of summer. also on June 12 The Maids welcome The Warning for their first visit to Japan and will join them for the first stop of the Warning mini tour of Japan. I'm expecting/hoping for a collab of sorts from 2 amazing rock bands. cheers
*BAND-MAID* has many ballad from *Daydreaming, about Us, Smile and Memorable* in addition they have some Acoustic sets should check out like *Sayonakidori and Catharsis* you should experience as well. 😊 (Oh yea they still have their Uniforms which they consider their battle gear)
Band-Maid have tons of slower songs including ballads. Some of their slower stuff include "About Us", "Memorable", "Daydreaming", "Anemone", "Endless Story", "PAGE", "Wonderland", "Awkward", "Start Over", "Mirage", "At the Drop of a Hat" and "Smile". It's their third song sung totally in English. The others are "Don't Let Me Down" (filthy lyrics) and "The Dragon Cries".
When I first listened to this, I thought "What the heck? this is an attempt to westernize Band Maid - not sure it works". Then it became an earworm and now it's one of my favourite Band Maid songs. So I would say to everyone - give it a few plays. It will sure as hell grow on you.
If you like this ballad, I highly recommend going back to some of their other ones. Daydreaming is the gold standard, but they've also written thank you/love letters to their fans in the form of song and you can hear those in About Us and Memorable. There is also the Endless Story live video that always chokes me up.
Great reaction DB. Yeah, as you make your way through Band-Maid's catalog you'll find a little bit of everything. I came to Band-Maid for the harder stuff, but honestly now I love the variety. And basically it comes down to the fact that Band-Maid brings a level of craftsmanship that few other bands possess: instrumental complexity & expertise, vocal harmonies, and consistently great songwriting.
[Bestie, co-written by Michael Einziger of Incubus.] MISA's playing and bass tone are setting new standards... and Akane's drumming is so in-the-pocket and distinguishable... and Kanami's solo is Daydreaming masterful! The recording and mix are as enjoyable as the song and beautiful MV! Miku’s English lyrics (I bet with Saiki and Mikey-chan's influence) are heartfelt. "I can't look into your eyes." Is Band-Maid a band of fashion-forward, trend-setting Besties? 💞 Thx, Mikey & Band-Maid! FYI - The Maids just released a "Making of Bestie" on their websites where they explain the song and look of their awesome MV. Thx, Dane!
I feel like this song is Band-Maid best shot at getting played on the radio in the U.S. so I hope everyone annoys every radio station and requests this song.
Love this song and your reaction. As for the Angel Armor, right now, this is only for this song, as it is a collaboration piece. When they opened for Incubus on 5/1/24, they were in their Maid Battle Armor. Also, when they did their Zepp Haneda "The Day of Maid" show, they were rocking their Maid Battle Armor. Don't get me wrong, I like the Angel Armor, but I do feel the Maid Armor is part of their identity. But that's my 2 yen opinion, so take it for what it's worth....😂 PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
I'll be honest, the first time through listening to this I felt it was a BAND-MAID with training wheels vehicle. The more I listen to it, while it's a simple song, the maids are adding their usual flair while still maintaining that basic nature. This is easy onboarding for basic listeners.
This song has been touted by the band to be one of many collabs with Western artists on the upcoming album. I would definitely expect there to be one with The Warning, as well as a song co-written with Slipknot at the very least. They will probably debut the Warning collab at their dual bill show with them, much like how they debuted this with Incubus.
In Japanese, each vowel has a syllable. Japanese has a pitch accent that is unique to Japanese, but if you pay attention to the pronunciation of a i u e o and the syllables, you will be able to pronounce words that Japanese people can understand.
