Been a while since I watched a Band-Maid video, and this one was a ton of fun! My only minor beef was with some of the camerawork, but if that's the only issue then it must have been a banger!

Band Maid has recently released another official live video of "Hate?" from their 10th Anniversary Tour finale at Yokohama Arena. It has a GREAT segment of Kanami and Misa's guitar/bass "conversation/duel. Misa's solo is NOT cutout by the cameraman in that video. The other thing about the official live video is the lyrics in video closed captions are brutal but funny. This is really a great "F*** Off" song. It's worth a second view.

This performance was live streamed on Hulu, who, unfortunately, controlled the camera shots. They later apologized as they were not familiar with Band Maid. Band Maid usually augments the songs for live performances, often with Misa, bassist, and Akane, drummer, leading the way. However,in the mv for Dice, there is that intro: BAND-MAID / DICE (Official Music Video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZpAYnVJX9CY.html The maid outfits are found in Japanese tea rooms/cafes where there often are karaoke shows. Many work there for the exposure and experience.

They were on a side stage at 1:45 pm and the crowd grew as their set progressed. This set started little more than 12 hours after their previous nights full show that finished in the early hours around 1:30 am. Apart from the camera director having a nightmare they had multiple technical difficulties which they just worked through, Akane's wayward drum kit and breaking 2 sticks, Kanami's pedal board playing up which I don't think they entirely solved and I believe Miku had an issue as well but it wasn't apparent to me. Misa having to put on shoes because of the hot stage and Saiki collapsing from the heat after she left the stage. So quite an eventful set.

Well, as far as I can tell they were able to work through it all and put out some awesome music! If the camera issues were due to technical difficulties, I feel a lot better :-) That's rough about the collapsing though.

I think the reason we love Hate so much is because the Maids have so much fun playing it. They get to go wild. Especially Saiki, since she wrote the lyrics. And Dice is just quintessential, hard rock Band-Maid at its finest. Thx, Dad! btw - You gotta check out the latest official Hate, Don't You Tell Me, and Endless Story live MV's from Yokohama on their YT channel!

I guess the camera staff at Lollapalooza just weren't used to bands that have so much going on... The bass/guitar tradeoff is not in the studio version. They often add new parts when they perform their songs live.

I was actually at this Lollapalooza. There are a lot of stages so the crowds are pretty spread earlier during the day, this was early afternoon. Also Lolla put them on a stage without knowing who they were I'm pretty sure because none of the other bands on that stage sounded anything close to Band-Maid, all light pop. Lollapalooza is fine but definitely for the younger set. I regularly go to another one in Chicago that Band-Maid would be perfect for, Riotfest. All older rock, punk, and metal mostly.

BAND-MAID at Lollapalooza, Chicago, Friday, August 4, 2023 Setlist: from now on DOMINATION Choose me Don’t you tell ME alone After Life NO GOD Daydreaming DICE HATE? FREEDOM Manners endless Story CHICAGO SUN-TIMES The Japanese rock act is the quintessential example of not judging a book (or a band) by its cover. Inspired by everyone from Carlos Santana to Deep Purple and Smashing Pumpkins, but looking like demure movie characters, Band-Maid is a total exploration of contrast, and about as shock rock as you can be nowadays - not for the blood and gore of, say, GWAR, but for the immediate hypnosis they impart. - Selena Fragassi ROLLING STONE Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.

The audio is decent for a Hulu live stream but the camera director had obviously never seen (or maybe even heard of) Band-Maid. I'm hoping his poor switching was because he was so blown away he forgot he was punching up cameras. It got better toward the end. All and all I'm glad this vid still exists. I haven't been able to find the whole show since soon after the festival.

Last couple of things. People have been complaining about the camera work since it aired (and understandably so). Having some experience in this area, I can guess what happened. This was obviously the Hulu live event broadcast crew, not any crew hired by the band. For live events/TV, the director handles the shot selection/switching, usually from a mobile or remote unit. There was almost certainly little to no prep/run-through for any of the acts, except maybe headliners. With a 150 acts, it's impossible. It's a giant cattle call and crazy rush from act to act and stage to stage. They had 4 or 5 cameras covering that stage, so everything was probably shot but they didn't know the songs very well, if at all, or the fact that the band was so dynamic. So they kept bungling the switching. Blame the director but be happy that they were one of the acts that got featured and aired. Also note that it was nearly 100 degrees F on that stage and equipment was breaking. It also broke Saiki. She collapsed with heatstroke the moment they left the stage.

Agreed that the camera work on this video is atrocious. This was just the only good video of Hate? live we had until 2 weeks ago and it's such a kickass song, it's hard to not recommend. I highly highly recommend watching that official live video if you want to get good camera work, especially during the breakdown section. (in your own time or as a video, just watch it, it's awesome) In biggest back handed defense I can give to them, apparently Lolapalooza is like 90% DJ's these days and the poor sod's don't have the experience actually covering a band. The extended section is something they only do live, it's not in the original. As far as the show is concerned, most people had never heard of them, and they played very early in the day, so the crowd was small at the start, but people gravitated their way after they started and the crowd grew pretty significantly. Reviews of the show also highlighted the ladies as a stand out. My favorite was Rolling Stone saying this: "They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Ha, good info, and that Rolling Stone quote is great! (it doesn't make up for all of the bad things they said about Led Zeppelin back in the day, but that was 50 years ago so I guess I can let it go). I didn't realize the DJ percentage was so high these days; kind of sad. Not that there's anything wrong with the kind of music, but it's just such a big shift from the origins of the concert.

This was the second time slot of the day. I think it was 1:45 PM. People were still just showing up then and their area filled more during their set. Lollapalooza isn't much of a rock festival anymore, sadly. One hundred fifty acts and some of the biggest crowds were for DJs.

@@DadDaughtersandDrinks Yes, I had the same thought. There's not much to shoot and one person on stage. Even most of the bands I saw just kind of stood there and the focus on the vocalist. Not a lot of high energy live music, judging by what was aired. Many were solo artists, too.

You're right, the direction is insultingly bad. And not because the "director" didn't know a drum fill was coming and failed to capture it. It's objectively bad all around. They have no sense of rhythm or timing. The "director" doesn't even seem to know what sound comes from what instrument. Almost all the close-ups are of the wrong member at the wrong time. Look, I find Saiki captivatingly beautiful too, but the "director" must be in LOVE with her. They keep cutting to her during various solos as she rests on the drum riser. Me simple boy. Me want see solo. I'll stop complaining now and say I'm very happy with BAND-MAID's performance here and their decision to release the new Tokyo Garden performance of 'HATE?' for fans.

What's done is done. *"Dice"* was one of the very first Band-Maid songs I heard. That bass break in the second verse made me sit up and take notice. This is not an average band. They aren't even an average good band. Their songwriting is exceptional. Band-Maid released an official live version of *"Hate?"* about three weeks ago. It has much better sound and camerawork. Highly suggested!

Definitely do the official live version of "Hate?" The mix is pristine and you'll be able to see much more..This video was ripped from the Hulu stream, uploaded, and compressed by YT (maybe more than once), so the audio is somewhat muddy. The actual stream audio was decent, at least through my system. The clip you're using was valiantly audio optimized by a fan but, frankly, I think it's a bit worse than the original. Again, could be more of a function of YT smashing it.

Lala poluza is a nightmare first off. It's always been way too expensive. Even when I was in my 20s, the bands have been getting crapier as the years go by and the worst part about it is it's on the first weekend of August on the lake front. We're talking hot 100° t, degrees. 100% humidity, even if there was a breeze it would feel awesome. It costs you a $100 to not die of heat stroke Just going to 1 day, roitfest is so much better.
