Cool reaction, I liked your breakdown, informative. No mistakes, you're right, I have seen them rehearse with blindfolds on, so they can literally play in the dark!
"Onset", the legend that's Saiki's pee break song. Other pee break songs are "Don't Be Long" & "Without Holding Back". I'm now waiting for "Hard Wash".
@@patron40silver Nope, all i get is HOME, VIDEOS, PLAYLISTS, CHANNELS & ABOUT. it says discussion & community posts are only available on latest versions of PC's & mobiles :)
@@patron40silver We have no money to pay for professionals (whatever happened to out of the goodness of their heart, lol). I liked T. Morris's song "Okaeri" but everyone would have to agree. What about if i contact him & ask if he can post the finished lyrics on your discussion tab & you can see what you think. An original song to the maids would be even more personal than a cover, but a cover is easier to do :)
I think Kanami and Miku compliment each other so well is that Kanami (lead guitar) is Miku's guitar teacher. Miku only started playing guitar in 2013 I believe. Anyway if you want to see a longer drum solo watch their concert video of their song "Freedom" Akane gets to shine in that one. I believe that is one of their favorite songs to perform. They are all smiling throughout the video. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FHpuEqMAcDg.html
One of the signature elements of BAND-MAID is the reserved "solos" in their performances. They seem to never do more than the song requires or anything that goes off course for the swing in the composition. As others said, Freedom has a short drum solo but if you ever watch entire live concert, you'll see many songs have extended bass, guitar and drum parts throughout the concert, so I guess their calculation is "we don't have to and do what we wanna!" lol
Regarding time signature change. Personally, I heard 5/4 in the transition section. To confirm this, I also had a look at a Japanese guitar magazine with the full band score of this piece. In this "transcription", the time signature during the transition leading into the tapping main melody line was, 5/4 (4 bars), 4/4(2 bars), then 2/4 (1 bar). It's possible to transcribe it into 4/4 (5 bars). But musically, it is far easier to play it as 5/4, because of its repetition of the same 5/4 tune for 4 bars (especially for the rhythm guitar, bass, and drums).
David you're spoiling me, first a few Lovebites videos and now Band Maid! 9.1 is very fair, shows how good Kanami composition skills are, never a dull moment she's always looking for ways to make things interesting. If you want to check out their latest instrumental it's called "Without Holding Back", its not on YT let me know if you need a link. Because you said you want more drums, If you want to see a drum solo from Akane the song is "Freedom" Live, its on their channel! Thanks, another great video, stay safe!
Akane is an amazing drummer, and Misa plays the hell out of that bass, especially when she slaps/pops that bass. But for me, Kanami really impresses me. She is such a great guitarist and has this old school feel to her playing. I think you can put her in any of those 80s hard rock/metal bands and she would fit right in. I could listen to her play all day.
Nice reaction, I love your breakdown of Misa's technique on the base. However, I do believe there is a time signature change: At 3:41 they are playing exactly 4 bars of 5/4 before switching back to 4/4.
Guitar goddess Kanami on lead guitar (on our right) is the lead composer and also coaching Miku (second guitar, center left with red rose), so she almost certainly gave Miku the parts she played note for note. Miku has been working very hard on her guitar skills and is now reaching the point where she can be showcased a bit more and a bit more. She also is chief lyricist, second vocalist, and founder of the band. Misa's bass tone, yes she's awesome, she is always in total control of what we hear. She plays a custom Black Cloud (one of at least 3) through Orange amps. If you get a view of the top of her amp head unit, there will be liquid refreshments. Often powered by Jim Beam. Akane's drum kit looks modest but she plays ALL of it and hammers the single bass with a double pedal. They all constantly push forward to continue developing their skills and create new tunes that stretch them. And they play with such joy! A super talented but fun band.
I hope you can also react to "Freedon" from band maid (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FHpuEqMAcDg.html) I like that video especially because of the joy that the drummer transmits 😄 all of them are very talented
This song is great for the reason you stated. It let's the girls show off their musical prowess, which is CRAZY good. Sometimes I'm a bit put off that they don't do any songs in english, but to be fair, sometimes it's hard to understand what singers singing in english are saying either, so it's a minor issue. Bottom line, if it SOUNDS good, it IS good. And these ladies ROCK!!!
They pulled this video down for some reason and only RE-uploaded it recently. I think they had millions of view before that. Also I wonder if Miku (stage right rhythm) was actually doing the counter melody herself or it was pre+recorded 🤔 Anyways, great review and analysis!
Thanks for the reaction! Another video I watched commented that Kanami (lead guitar) wasn’t using a delay pedal - the delay effect was achieved in the way she was picking the strings plus reverb.
I really like your detailed analysis! Please react to NEMOPHILA / DISSENSION , they are female super band that will take over the world soon! Japanese ladies killing it! I guarantee you're gonna love it! So heavy, crispy and variated! And what a great voice vocalist have, singing in 3 different techniques!
This is my favorite Band Maid performance. I'm not in love with vocalist (though she's getting better with her enunciation, and I may soon change my opinion). This shows off the amazing instrumental talent they have in this band. They are all amazing musicians and its exciting watching them perform.
If you want to hear the drummer (Akane) going "beast mode" check out their song 'Black Hole'.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oMsCDPXZ_ug.html There's no music video but here's a lyric video for it. She should have a new nickname after this song = AK-47 because she has some massive burst fire on that bass drum at the end.
Freedom and play i think you will like. If only one take freedom. If you doing alot from them just take whatever you want to. They hane no bad songs. I think you will give every song that have 9.0+ points. In freedom you will see more drum solo.
Hate when people tritely say this. It's to give Saiki's voice a break. She already has had vocal polyps removed. An instrumental, a Miku song, and Miku's magic time gives Saiki 15 or 20 minutes of break. I want her to preserve her voice.
@@ericifune5543 yep, she goes hard for an hour before the break and her voice is powerful but also seems to have some fragility. I love her falsetto in wonderland and sometimes her speed is astounding, they use her like a percussive instrument in some songs.
Since the last time you reacted to Band-Maid, they have dropped 3-4 new music videos. You should add them to your list. Manners (mv) Warning (mv) After Life (mv)

I think the counter measure part was most likely Kanami's backing track, either a synth or guitar (She does that often). BTW, this band is ok but, man, there is another band that is greater called Band Maiko, Po! Where Band Maid puts out about 1 album per year, Band Maiko puts out about 1 song per whenever they feel like it. In fact, be prepared for another possible MV coming out in 23 days, Po! Hatoko (Flappy Pigeon) let it out a bit, during the Dragon Maid TwitchCast with Herman Li, Po! She called it a surprise. Hope its a MV, Po!
I think you're right. When Miku is on camera during that section, you can see she's still playing the rhythm part, and if you listen carefully you can hear it as well, although the high harmony does mostly drown her out.
Nice reaction, Onset was a nice filler for the concert as well. It gave some room for Saiki vocals to rest or just her "Pee break" xD. You should check out Band-Maid - Play (Live). The live version has a different spin on it than their recorded version.
The Bass Player MISA plays with a pick and slaps in the same song and changes from one to the other very quickly! From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right? (Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick. (Chris): Show me how. (Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm. (Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how) (Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever. (Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome! (Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice. Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - Orange AB200B MKIII Amps
Band-Maid and Lovebites are the best two female rock / metalbands on earth. Lovebites has their great powermetal, and Band-Maid play their own style of rock with some other music styles in it. Try Freedom live, a great song and you can hear their vocalist on it.
@@THEDavidHeretic thanks, they are really growing better by the time you get to black hole, the last song on the new album I think you'll either be sick of us "maidiacs" or glad we pointed you down the rabbit hole. Thanks for responding .
@@THEDavidHeretic during play watch when the lead singer Saiki goes to the drummer, Akane. Akane makes a face and you can catch Saiki hold back a laugh .
7:08: dude that is all Kanami! Miku only can play chords, if you look when the camera switches to Miku (7:29), you can see is all she does is move her hand up and down the board. Usually keeping her fingers in the same positiion. That is all tapping from Kanami what you hear.
Ok people, can we give Band Maid and Love Bites a rest for a while now and request something different? Feels like if you've heard one of these songs you've heard them all.
Hi David. Greetings from the Netherlands. Seeing what you've been reacting to so far, I was wondering if you've ever listened to Nightwish? They are a Finnish symphonic metal band with a Dutch singer (Floor Jansen). She has one of the best, if not THE BEST, female voices in metal today. She can sing with an operatic approach, pop, rock and even grunting. They are known for their epic live performances. Just a warning; the dive into this rabbit hole can be really deep. Many start their journey with a live performance of Ghost Love Score, recorded at Wacken 2013 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-47e_961OQWE.html). If you give this a try, the Nightwish fans will soon find you and give you all the information you might need.
