BAND-MAID - Thrill - FIRST EVER reaction to this band!!!! 

Welcome to the Band Maid Party! This is the song that hooked me. The eye candy got me to the party, but the music is keeping me there. I went to go see them in LA last year and they were awesome! Even better than I expected. I love these girls!

This was their first video (2014) when they were still in their "infancy" and these ladies have since progressed and grown into the premiere rock band in the world. Checkout something from their 2/14/2020 show to see how mind blowing they have become, maybe "Freedom" or " Domination". 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

I appreciate your looking up the song and trying to get the meaning. That's rare among reactors. Their most recent albums, the physical CDs, have both Japanese and English lyrics in the liner notes, which I was delighted to find. I love their music even before I get the translation (always approximate anyway), and I'm a lyrics guy. The tunes with the most views are typically going to be the oldest ones that have been online longest. That is why this one was highest. Band-Maid doesn't have any bad songs, only those an individual may like even more than others. If your son likes strong rock and not K-Pop, yes, Japan offers a lot of it, an amazing number of great bands. A lot of us consider Band-Maid to be the best hard rock band on the planet right now. And their versatility combined with virtuosity means not getting bored with them. Okay, I can go on and on about them, but briefly: The insanely great lead guitarist is Kanami Tono. (I'm putting surnames second to make this easier for a westerner.) The rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist (AND Founder of this awesome group AND lead lyricist) is Miku Kobato, a stage name meaning Little Pigeon. She claims to be an 810 year old pigeon. Kanami taught her guitar from zero, and she has come a long way. Kanami knew and had worked with drummer Akane Hirose. Akane is, like the others, phenomenal at her craft. Akane knew an excellent bassist, MISA. Name capitalized because she's great, and because that's the only name we get, so gotta make the most of it. So she's considered the most mysterious, is usually out of the spotlight, barefoot (actually stocking feet) to feel Akane's beats and stay on top of them. And once it once obvious how strong a group they had, Miku knew her voice would not be strong enough to hold up to their music and they held auditions for a full time lead vocalist and frontwoman. And Saiki Atsumi has turned out to be perfect for them - passion, control, soul... You might want to try Freedom, the February 14, 2020 live concert video. It shows how they've gotten even better, how they expand on their existing tunes in live performances, and the joy they bring to it.

Welcome to the land of the Maids. Have you missed out on some great music. Yes you have. As mentioned here,the ladies have progressed a long way in 6 years. Their 1st hit here. 5 of the most talented ladies in the music industry. That girl who shreds is 1 of the best in the world. Kanami composes all the Maids songs now. Thrill and the 1st album,New Beginning wasn’t written by her. Miku on rhythm guitar writes the lyrics. Misa on the bass is the best on the 5 string. 1 of the highlights of the band are Misa and Kanami’s solos. Akane on drums is fast and precise and Saiki on lead vocals make up the rest of the band. Really shine live. So many songs to chose from. Onset in 2018,Domination,Freedom,Don’t you tell me,Dice this year. Start with Onset though. Combo of music and lighting is brilliant. Atmosphere at shows would be sensational and the crowd interaction is great in these concerts. Played in 3 U.S. cities last year to rave reviews and even though their English is limited,they still received a great reaction. Become a Maidiac,you’ll never look at music the same way again.

For the next Band-Maid song, I'd suggest Freedom live. There is a huge J-Pop scene as well. A lot of the Western Japanese music fans on RU-vid are rock and metal fans, though there are J-Pop fans as well. Japan has the "idol" scene with cute girls singing and dancing. Look up AKB48 as an example. There is even an alt-idol or anti-idol scene with cute girls singing & dancing, but not singing cheerful pop. With names Broken by the Scream, KaqriyoTERROR, and Necronomidol you might guess they are not standard pop. There is probably no Western music genre you can't find a Japanese band doing. The Korean writing system of hangul is a lot easier to learn than Japanese's mixture of kanji, hiragana and katakana.

Onset by Bandmaid is a great showcase of their talent. Instrumental song.

The real Existence music video is good, but the live version on their RU-vid channel is better. Band-Maid is a great live band.

They have come a long way since they first started. They have since become regards by many as the best rock band out in the world right now. The musicianship in this band is absolutely impressive, and there are over two dozens of their catchy hits for you to react to. Their instrumental solos are to die for in every song!!! Also, make sure to check out their live performances first if you can. They are one of those rare bands that their live version of their songs is even better than their studio version. The formation of the band and the evolution of the way they began to take control of their own songs and writing is fascinating. Their live performances from small venues to bigger stadiums is great to see. Looking at some of the lyrics they wrote themselves are far more involved than some of the earlier stuff. Their musicianship is getting to a level that only respect can be given to the way they play. Hugely entertaining and always leaving a smile on the face. Band-Maid are a delight

Welcome aboard! Thrill was the first video I discovered also, and I loved it fa lot. Once I discovered their later songs (written by them) plus the live performances, I just never went back to the MVs. Check out their official channel for a few live performances, they've got a few full concerts that have been released too. Play, Freedom, Domination, Onset, Take Me Higher, Blooming, Moratorium are some of my favorites I've found live.

Do not go to Views, but watch the latest videos from the Band Maid Channel ... Domination or Freedom in the live version of this year. The girls have gotten better and better over the years and Thrill is really old and especially live they are better than in the music videos.

These ladies are THE BEST Hard Rock band in the world today, and have been for the past few years...IMO. It's just that the general public have not known this. Many will say listen to Domination (live,14/02/20), and yeah that's cool..... it will show you how far they have come over the past 6 years and how SOOOOOOO good they are live. After that, I say listen to Blooming, Daydreaming, Dice, Rinne, Bubble, The Dragon Cries, ......... All on their RU-vid page. In Fact, listen to all their content from their YT page. They are sooo consistently GREAT!!

Nice reaction! Band Maid are amazing band, very talented musicians that will blow you away. Allow me to suggest you check out another female band, Lovebites a metal band from Japan, they sing in English. Both these bands are world class, especially Live wich is what i recommend whenever possible. Enjoy and Stay safe!

Thanks for checking out Band-Maid! One of the best rock bands on the planet right now. Highly recommend doing Domination and Play with the live shows. They are amazing live. I looked back at your videos and see an impressive list of music reactions, with some awesome bands. I certainly have to recommend another path of reactions 😄. I recommend doing Bring Me The Horizon song Kingslayer featuring Babymetal. Which is an excellent collaboration. Follow this up with a taste of Babymetal with either Karate official or Megitsune official. Babymetal is actually the premier band coming out of Japan currently. The only band in all of Asia to ever hit number one spot on Billboards Top Albums chart in 2019 for Metal Galaxy. They also cameo in Corey Taylor CMFT Must Be Stopped video. Obviously they are incredible artists to be making it into the western music world the way they are. Definitely worth checking out!

Ah, I see you are starting your Band Maid journey with the MV that started it all. These ladies have a knack for creating hit after hit then adding an additional bit of flair during their live performances. Listen to it again...the chorus is like a nod to MJ's Thriller. I think its cool, whoever wrote it. Believe other comments...they've come a long way since as musicians and writing their own songs. This MV was a perfect mission statement for their contrasting look and sound.

Just for a moment, forget they're all female and forget they're dressed as maids. Two members (Misa - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre amuch needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from a live concert in Feb, which was released as a DVD in April. A lot of their songs are better than this. This was their first MV release from many years. A song written for them. Since then they've long been writing their own songs and have gotten amazingly good .... if you have a choice when reviewing a Band-Maid song try and review the pro-shot live versions (with a few exceptions ... 'Bubble' for example is better with the MV as the Live version was from a TV show that cut it down to about 1/2 length ) chose the live versions ... these girls totally rock live and the fun and energy when playing live is incredible. Be prepared ... the Band-Maid army is large and friendly, so you should get lots of views, comments and recommendations. The girl shredder is Kanami, she now does most of the original arrangements and is my favorite guitar player on the planet ... she's not the fastest, or most technical, but her solos (and background fills and riffs) are some of the tastiest I've ever heard (Akane, Drums and MISA, base ... while not so noticeable on this MV also earn the 'tastiest' title.) The background vocalist, Mika, writes most of the lyrics and she is considered by native Japanese speakers as a poetic genius ... not just for her lyrics, but her writing style which is hard to both write and sing in Japanese, but Saiki, the lead vocalist handles it flawlessly.

I totally get what you said about hearing lyrics in a foreign language, it can really affect the whole vibe and composition as well as just sounding exotic. You might wanna check out some Finnish bands (that actually sing in Finnish - the main one I can think of off the top of my head, who've been around for a while, would be PMMP). Finnish has lots of consonants like Japanese but also those rounded European vowels and heavily rolled _R_s: I like to describe it as sounding like a combination of Japanese and Italian. One of the interesting things about later Band-Maid songs, after Miku started writing the lyrics ("Thrill" was one of their first recordings, and written by someone hired by the label), is that according to Japanese-speakers she really twists a lot of standard Japanese pronunciation to give the vocal rhythm and melody more freedom. Saiki, the lead singer, often has to ask Miku how to sing a word because a voice sound (a phoneme is the technical term IIRC) is longer or shorter than is usual in Japanese. Apparently we're used to this stretching or bending of words in English, but it's kind of alien to Japanese-speakers and thus kind of a breakthrough in the way Japanese lyric melodies are composed.

Your son's right "Mom stop the K-pop". Replace it on your I Pod with B-M songs & your son'll love them. Then remind him why he has to buy you a really nice Xmas present.

Dominantion live is a great video to check out. These girls are absolutely amazing with their instruments and sound. Honestly every song is solid. If you want a mashup of rock sound and kpop I highly recommend Dreamcatcher if you haven't already. Scream would be a good introduction to them.
