"Band of Brothers" is the best miniseries ever. The follow-up: "The Pacific" is very grim but well made.

Guys, you have NO idea what you've just done. There is a HUGE BoB reactors group that will descend into the comments. ANY questions you have will be answered in the greatest of detail. This is the GREATEST thing ever produced for television, and its over 23 years old. Your subscriber numbers will explode in number.

Growing up, these men and the ones that battled their way across the pacific were my "influencers." They were our dads, our teachers, our boy scout leaders. I wish I had been more appreciative of that time with them then.

One of my favourite quotes from the veterans in the book is .... " I took off in an aeroplane 13 times between 1942 and 1945 ..... my first landing in an aeroplane was in 1966 " ....

It's an interesting movie duo where James is always looking to talk about what he just saw, and Millie is just trying to absorb what she just saw and not miss what's happening while James is talking 😂

" Fragging " {from fragmentation grenades ) , was the common term for killing incompetent and unliked officers in combat . The soldiers did it for self --preservation , figuring that the incompetent officer was going to get them all killed .THis is a great mini series

Band of Brothers is a series I can watch over and over. Now buckle up for Episode 2.

I say this every time I see someone reacting to this, but in my opinion, this is the best 10 hours of television ever produced.

The first commanding officer of my first ship would play bingo with us. It was a fundraiser for the ship's recreation fund. One time the CO won. For the crew, one guy wins, he gets half the entry fees, the other half goes into the fund. The captain won, so he put it all in the fund.

So nice to see James and Millie watching Band Of Brothers.

The production had the use of 4 actual vintage planes. With creative cinematography, clever editing and the addition of CGI, they were able to make it look a large fleet of planes.

One thing you learn being in the military, your brother never goes alone . It is all about the men to your left and to your right, that's why we do what we do. That's all there is to it, enough said.

Nice to see this! Band of Brothers is an amazing series about some amazing people. Also, just amazing well made with everything. Actors, director, effect, music this series really has it all.

It's a military training officer's duty to be harsh. And no matter how harsh they are, they'll never be as harsh as combat, which is what they're being trained for.

One thing I think everyone misses about Sobel, He's the first one up the mountain.

My favorite "cinema" ever made. I watch this whole series every year around July 4th. You might be surprised how many of the actors you know or recognize. I worry for Millie. Some of this is really hard to watch, but so amazing at the same time. God Bless from the USA.

This is based on real people and real events. In the beginning, where you thought it was a documentary, the people talking are the real people the characters are based on. Winters, Lipton, Guarnere, etc.

The best miniseries ever, covering stories about a group of men from the Greatest Generation. Learn the names of these men best as you can, it comes in handy. Would like more thoughts on the veterans at the beginning & more commentary post episode. Looking forward to this journey.

I find it breathtaking that you live on an island that has a deep history in WW2 and yet...

Christensen (the guy who had drunk from the canteen during the march) was played by Michael Fassbender, Magneto from the newer X-Men movies.

Quite a few of the "American" paratroopers are actually British actors. They did a terrific job playing Americans. You should also watch the way they made these episodes. They actually went through a mini boot camp to get a taste of how the actual men went through.

You two are in for such a rewarding journey. The book Band of Brothers was written after exhaustive research and countless interviews with surviving members of this specific crew, some of which are featured in the interviews that begin many of the episodes. They are intentionally not identified so that we remain unaware of who made it through the war. They are eventually revealed. A handful of minor details are shifted for dramatic purposes in this series, but most of the stories are actual history, so be prepared to learn about World War II. There’s a good documentary called We Stand Alone Together that followed the official episodes. There’s also a series of behind-the-scenes videos shot by the guy who plays Nixon which covers the actor’s boot camp which preceded filming. Looking forward to watching these with you! (It wouldn’t hurt to have a box of tissues handy.) Peace …

The book was based on real soldiers and their experiences, they will begin to appear after the episodes and then you'll understand why they are considered the greatest generation !! Enjoy

24:24 I spent 20 years working US Air Force air fields. I’ve done countless aircraft launches, running around while engines are cranked and pulling chocks away from wheels, the whole business. It remains an incredibly dangerous work environment, and it’s via the awareness of how dangerous it is, and standard procedures to mitigate those dangers, that we don’t have huge numbers of accidents. Oh, and I did spend 6 years of that 20 year career right there in the UK, at RAF Lakenheath, in Suffolk. Looking forward to your reactions to this.

This is a fantastic series. It's not a documentary, but has documentary elements. It's not quite fiction, but parts of it are fictionalized for dramatic purposes. It is based closely on the memories and stories told by the actual surviving members of Easy Company. it is mostly based on the book by Stephen Ambrose, but includes additional input from the veterans and from other books. The interviews at the beginning of each episode gain more meaning as you start to figure out who these veterans are and which ones are prominent in the series.

I grew up in Taccoa. I currently live on my sailboat in Tampa Bay but I was back home a month ago and you can see Currahee from our house. Walked up that trail many times. The barracks are still there. They turned them into apartments years ago. Cool spot.

Guys...its 10 riveting episodes. You should do TWO a week, to keep up. Amazing mini series.

When you finish the series, there are 2 additional videos that are highly recommended - an actual documentary about the real men titled “ We Stand Alone Together” and a ‘video diary’ by Ron Livingston (Lewis Nixon) about the 2 week boot camp training the cast had before filming started.

This television series will change your outlook on life with a whole new appreciation for those of the Greatest Generation who have gone before us and sacrificed so much for our freedoms around the world today.

Without question I want to see the entire series and also its 2 follow-up series. In the case of Band of Brothers, the last couple of episodes are probably the most emotional and heart-rending of all and not because of what you may be thinking (the death of major characters). This series doesn't play those kinds of games with your head. I'll tell you right now that it was a German, a minor character, who made me tear up when I first watched it and I bet he does you too.

This miniseries is absolutely amazing

Band of Brothers is the mostly true story of Easy Company, 101st Airborne Division. One of the greatest war series, ever. Don't forget to watch the documentary about Easy Company, "We Stand Alone Together", after you finish the series. Don't watch it first. Also, stock up on tissues for Episode 9.

In the book it goes into much more detail about the relationship the company had with Sobel. Things were worse than shown in the series. In one incident E company had to be wounded for the medics to practice evacuation of the wounded, someone anesthetized Sobel made an incision and then stitched him up and left him in the woods. The later options by the men had changed while many thought he was a bad combat leader he was a good training officer and was responsible in part for their success.

Be sure to watch the 11th episode, the actual documentary. It identifies all the men being interviewed, some are central characters in the series and others not portrayed at all, and tells more of their stories.

I can't believe you guys have never seen (let alone heard of) this WWII miniseries. I have the boxed DVD set. Yes, it's based on true stories and the gentlemen in the interviews are the former soldiers who experienced and told the stories. There's also a sister series to this one, aptly titled "The Pacific". You're going to see a lot of recognizable actors who got their start in this series.😉 Peace.🕊

One thing to remember constantly when watching this mini-series is that, the stories are being told by some of Easy Company's members' perspective and the writers of the show decades after the events happened. How some characters are portrayed may not be how they were in real life depending on perspective, some characters were left entirely out of the show and some events portrayed didn't happen as portrayed in the show, so it is not to be taken as historical fact. With that said, it is a fantastic miniseries but caution not to believe everything as shown.

Hi James and Millie some of the black and white videos was real footage. This is a real hart breaker. I was a paratrooper in the U.S ARMY for 3 years. Was station in Vicenza Italy. I was in Charlie Company 1/509th B.C.T. We train hard, but got a lot of respect. Hope enjoy the movie.😊❤

This is FINALLY a chance for me to ask a film reactor FROM BRITAIN what did the English guy with the Luger say? I've never understood ever since this came out.

I served in the US Army (not in WW 2) and most of this series feel very authentic. There were some officers I would have done anything for and others that were just incompetent fools. This show is excellent...

I have seen so many reactions to Band of Brothers, I was thinking you had already done it on the other channel. But nothing there. Buckle up for this series. Highs, lows, and quite the journey! Keep the tissues handy for most of the episodes. You'll need for some more than others. Hopefully no one spoils in the comments. Happy to follow along with you!

James and Millie, fasten your seatbelts. You are about to start a journey--seriously--in which you become so immersed that you truly identify with the people in this series, as if they are friends, even relatives. You may be confused with their names in Episode 1, but by the end you will have found joy and heartbreak. I am 76 years old and a US paratrooper (7 years in the 82nd Airborne Division, 3 years in Special Forces, and 5 years at XVIII Airborne Corps). My father was in the 11th, 82nd, and 101st Airborne Divisions. He was also a "Curahee" in the 506th of this series). I've watched the series repeatedly since 2001, and I must have watched every single RU-vid reaction to every single episode. You will not regret starting down this road. When it seems to tough at times, just stay the course! Many viewers have asked over the years when they see something happening, "Is that for real?" Or "Did that really happen?" The answer is yes. Those veterans were still alive when this series was made, Spielburg wanted to honor them with accuracy, they were constantly consulted, and they screened the final product. As we said in the Army, "You just can't make this s**t up." I believe I have watched every one of your reaction videos. If I may be excused to add one constructive comment: James has a tendency to start talking to Millie while turning his head toward her. You need to pause the video when talking and try not to look at Millie. A lot of the action is incredibly fast-paced, as combat truly is, and you will miss many remarks between soldiers or some quick event. Best wishes from across the pond!!!

General Eisenhower wept watching the paratroopers depart knowing how many wouldn't make it.

If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup." I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his power...it's brilliant, and a true story. Hard to call this a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠

Standard military courtesy; the higher ranking officer returns the salute from the lower rank. To fail to do so is basically an insult. As to whether Sobel is so dazed he misses Winters salute, or just feeling so aggrieved that he just doesn't care is kinda a judgement call. In the 18th and 19th Century militaries it is the kind of thing that might have led to a duel tho...A thing to remember as the planes are taking off at the end...this event is less than 40 years after Kitty Hawk and the First Powered Flight...before they entered Paratroop training I would be suprized if 1 or 2 men in the whole regiment had been in a plane before.

Episode 9 is a true heartbreaking episode.

Just some of the figures for D-Day will stagger the imagination... more than 11,000 aircraft, over 6,000 ships in the seaborne invasion fleet...... in all, there were a total of 23,400 paratroopers, (7,900 British, and 15,500 American) and 156,000 men actually came in on the beaches, 61,715 on the three British and Canadian Beaches(Gold, Juno, Sword) and 73,000 on two US beaches(Omaha and Utah), in addition, there were more than 126,000 navy personnel manning the ships, for a total manpower figure of over 350,000 involved in D-Day....the largest amphibious operation in Military history....this series pays tribute to all those who took part.......by the way, the men talking about their experiences at the start are not just D-Day veterans, but they actually ARE some of the men portrayed here in the series, they're not identified until the final episode, so as not to be a spoiler by revealing who makes it through and who doesnt........this is without doubt the very best TV series of its type ever made......

There are a few liberties taken for the sake of drama, or storytelling... but essentially, this series tells the real story of real paratroopers. For instance, in Episode 2 Don Malarkey meets a guy from Eugene, Oregon who was doing the same job he was just 100 miles away. In reality, the fellow he meets worked in another shop just down the street from Malarkey; the show's writers didn't think that viewers would believe it. Think of BoB as an "historical docu-drama".

So, the Booming of Pearl Harbor by Japan is what brought the US into the War, the government decided to focus on the war in Europe first before focusing on the pacific. Which is what the Veterans were talking about at the beginning. Now Sobel’s training regiment was brutal, but the men from the 101st credit their survival on his training. Now while he was an amazing training officer getting men ready for war he was terrible in the field.

Great reactions! This is my favorite miniseries of all time. It's a masterpiece. It's based upon the book "BAND OF BROTHERS" by historian Stephen Ambrose. However, it's also based upon several other books and interviews of the men who are depicted in this series. They were the men of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. These men (many of them were still teenagers -- including some who were underage) parachuted into Nazi-occupied France the night before D-Day. Their goal was to help divide/mitigate the German resistance and take out enemy guns to help the imminent Allied beach invasion.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks really pulled out the big guns for this show. There were some inaccuracies, but those, to an extent, came from the book by Stephen Ambrose. But the scope of this miniseries I think blew open the door for how war films and shows would be portrayed going forward. Shows like Over There, Generation Kill, The Pacific and Master Of The AIr I don't think could have existed in their current forms had it not been for BoB.

There is an 11th part to the series, which is the interviews with the men who lived this. Think of it as a supplemental documentary. It sheds a fair bit of light and context.

After the war Sobel failed at business and marriage. He shot himself in the head, survived to be blind and lived for 20 years in a nursing home before dying.

Band of Brothers was about the European front fighting the Germans.

Private White, who refused to run, sat on his bed knowing that he was washing out/quitting. He wouldn't be a paratrooper and would presumably go into the regular Army.

If you didn't know, this series is based upon a true story. It isn't 100% historically correct, but its pretty close.
