Part One of the "England to the Eagles Nest" tour! In June 2023, we chronicled our journeys with the National World War II Museum as we walked in the footsteps of Easy Company as depicted in "Band of Brothers." This opening chapter of our adventure takes place in Aldbourne, England, where the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment prepared for the Normandy Invasion.

Reel History delves into historical films to separate fact from fiction. These engaging episodes explore, contextualize, and clarify stories related to the most famous historical movies. In contrast to the more prevalent "reaction" videos, these installments seek not only to entertain but to educate and inform. For host Jared Frederick and producer Andrew Collins, these episodes are a labor of love and a means of expressing passion for the past as well as cinema. Courteous viewer feedback is always welcome. The views expressed are our own and do not necessarily represent our employers or organizations with which we are involved.

I remember reading about Winters' time with the Barneses. Mrs Barnes calling him down later in the evening for tea and biscuits, listening to the news, reading scripture and praying. While a seemingly minor detail of his time in England it was obvious these moments meant a lot to the young Winters.

I was lucky enough to go to Aldbourne last year. My family and I had a trip to England and Scotland. We went to Bath and in planning the trip I noticed that it was only about five miles off our return route. Being that I’ve read just about every book about Easy Co, or by the veterans, I had to stop. Such a great little town. Sitting on that bench at the top of the cemetery was an experience, and view, I’ll never forget. My kids played on that soccer field.

Great video, I live 45 minutes away from Aldbourne, would love to meet you guys next time you’re on a tour there. Also, about half hour away is a place called Coombe Gibbit, on walbury hill, in the fields below is the site of the dummy gun battery built for the 9th parachute battalion to train on for its D day mission to silence its guns. My dad was one of the 150 men who took part in the attack on D day after the terrible miss drops.

Jared, if you and the reel history team are ever lost in deepest England again, I live right next to RAF Chelveston, a B17 base of course where the opening to 12 o clock high was filmed. You are all more than welcome in my humble abode

Gosh, I could never afford to travel to such exotic locations to see these historic sites on my modest pension... ... ... ... Okay, so my house is just 70 miles away, less than 2 hours by car... ... The area does look very familiar. I zoomed out of Google maps a little bit and saw Avebury just ten miles away - remember visiting some REAL history (not REEL history) on a school trip to Avebury stone circle, Silbury Hill, and West Kennett long barrow, which are thousands of years old, not just 80. (Seems like a thousand years ago I was in school). I recall from one of your previous videos I found the location used for the Ryan homestead in Saving Private Ryan was virtually in the next field from the West Kennett long barrow. (It's a small island...) I do hope you took the opportunity to take in some of these other sites while you were there, although off-topic as far as the channel is concerned. It's a long way to come from Pennsylvania and not see some 5,000 year old monuments while you're in Wiltshire!

I went back to Aldbourne with Bob Noody (F/506), courtesy of Neil Jones and toured it with him. It was amazing and a once in a lifetime experience. We had lunch in the infamous officer's pub, The Blue Boar, courtesy of the owner at the time, Michael Hehir and I saw where my friend Buck Compton was billeted as well as being allowed inside the last quanset hut by the owner, with Bob. It was a woodshop at that time. Just an amazing experience and Bob is greatly missed. Thanks for the reminder and great video of the walk around the village.

Just a quick, is this village located about 53 miles northwest of Southampton, England? For some reason, I always assumed it located somewhere in Dover. Many thanks.
