This is what the vocalist said, so you nailed it 😂 Singer Ben Bridwell said, "The basis of The Funeral was just really the start of me whining about my aversion to social occasions and holidays. The pressure of say New Year’s being the best party night of your life, or Christmas being this forced togetherness. I was quite the pessimist in those days when I wrote the song."[3] Bridwell compared this dread to the feeling one gets before attending a funeral.[4]
@@Lulabee2024 doesn't matter what he thought while writing, it only matters what it means to the listener 🤪 one of my favourite songs is about a serial stalker, but I didn't get that until many years later. I just love the song 😅 (Shy by Sonata Arctica). Same with this one, I love the FEELING of the song, not necessarily the lyrics even though I have become more of a "lyrics first" guy 😅
Wow it’s so rare to come across someone who knows Danny macaskill! The Ridge is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on RU-vid. Maybe I’m a little biased being that he and the video are Scottish. 😂
I think I heard this first on a tv show (? Maybe the original Roswell tv show) and whilst I can’t remember where I first heard it it’s been consistently in my top 100 played songs on iTunes/replay for like 10-15 years. It’s a beautiful but heartbreaking song. The funny thing is I can’t say I’ve been as fussed with any of their other songs but this one is 💯
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song; the melancholy and emotional songs with a kick ALWAYS GET ME. Edit: I have no idea what the author of this song intended. I hear it as understanding that NOTHING in this life is forever. Things, people, places they ALL come and go. And sometimes, things are taken, sometimes things are given. Being ready for "the funeral" of all we think we know about existence; to watch things come and go and EXCEPT IT. Such is life. ( I know, I think too much lol). Thanks to the person that suggested this one.
I'm not familiar with the band or this song, but it is hauntingly beautiful, sad, and deep. Like you, it will take a few listens and studying the lyrics to get the whole meaning of the song. Thank you, Saeed for reacting to this one. Hugs and much love to you and your family.
There is something about this song I can't put my finger on.. a feeling - that makes this one of my top all time favourites. I love this song (and many of the others from this band) and watched them live was an experience. I thought I gave you the link without lyrics, whoops 😅 My enterpretation is basically "live your life as each day is your last" But I am a family guy who loves every social gatherings with them (most of them 😅) Thanks buddy
Thanks for sharing that interpretation. I don't always mind those gatherings, but the times they are obligated or forced i do. Don't tell me when to celebrate :D
