I can't wait to see this. Adam Nee is one of the best comedic actors around. Do not forget. His 'Last Romantic' and 'Able Danger' turns are also things everyone should see.

This has to be one of the greatest winks in cinema. It's not just the wink: we have the head turn, that eyebrow lifting and then that naughthy half smile... so much awesomeness!

I stumbled onto this on Netflix late last year, never saw the trailer before. So I had no context for anything beforehand. Stylistically it feels like a Wes Anderson attempt at Coen Brothers. But it's better than Anderson. His movies have terrific style and quirkiness but they are so self aware about it that it's distracting and alienating. This movie, when you actually watch it, subverts that toxic quirkiness. Where those other movies present the illusion of community and a safety net for the quirky bunch, really fosters this elitist culture of forced twee one upsmanship. Then you have this movie which avoids making these people inaccessible. It lets them be individuals without having to prove to us that they are indeed so special in a marketable millenial way. Normally I cringe through those smug indie movies where someone has a 90's duffel bag with a 60's record player in it in front of a symmetrical elk's head. But this movie takes those set pieces and gives them more heart. So in that sense it doesn't surpass Wes Anderson visually, because it sacrifices all that for this experience of what our 10 year old selves adventure ideals would look like in our 30 year old selves. What it really comes down to for me is how Adam Nee plays Tom, with one of those rapid fire imaginative funny things he says, but they actually tickle you and make you laugh instead of telling you you're being tickled like some Robert Downey Jr. Tony Stark rant about how something serious looks like a pop culture reference. Nothing else has made me grin ear to ear so quickly and electrically and unstoppably in a movie perhaps this whole decade, as much as Band Of Robbers has. It's a non-pretentous indie film, come on. That's rare. I really want to see more from them.

( racist car aside) I always thought of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn as the 19 th century version of the Duke brothers, just some good old boys never meaning no harm, you know despite the racist car. ( I know it the car General Lee was all about poking a good natured finger at the law and bumbling Enis, but all symbols have their limits.)
