Band saw Vs Chop saw - Scheppach MBS1100 Metal Cutting Band Saw 127mm - Review and modifications 

A couple of tips: * cut your flat on the short edge instead of the think edge - it stops the gullets of the saw teeth filling up and slowing the cutting speed. * cut box section on the diagonal - it keeps the loading on the blade consistent rather than going from one very thick cut, to two thin cuts, and back to one very thick cut. There is a RU-vid video somewhere that shows this reduces the cutting time about 30%. * for new blades, reduce your blade speed significantly for the first few cuts to break them in for a longer life.

Finally got to see this, that’s a great tool and I’m surprised some of the other manufacturers don’t have an equivalent ! Scheepacc tools do exist here in Australia but are rare and I have not seen this one. I will look for it!

Just downloaded your horse head template and I’m going to reduce the size by 25% and make it an indoor display, fingers crossed it’ll come out as good as the Ram skull🤞 keep up the good work👍

Great video. I appreciate showing the 45° cut as most reviews dont bother showing that. I'm more inclined to go for this bandsaw because the mitre is adjusted on the saw itself and not just the fence like most. Makes it even more compact because your not moving your length of material. Hi Josh, my scheppach bandsaw has just arrived. On reading the manual, I noticed it says, "Never use liquid coolant for the metal bandsaw. The use of liquid coolants causes deposits on the rubber belts and reduces the cutting performance". The only thing they didn't say was, it's Not to be used on metallic materials 🤭 and by the way, my bandsaw came with 2 blades (purchased from Aldi online) made of steel, not rubber 🤣😂🤣 I've found the pump, tube and tap (thanks for the amazon link), so I'm just about to go on the hunt for a stainless steel baking tray and cutting fluid. Also, as I've got more experience cutting steel I've also started appreciating the cut width of various tools. The band saw has a fairly narrow cut of about or less than a mm, while most large discs (whether its abrasive or tungsten) tends to be several mm wide.

use one of these other brand but excactly the same, works great. one point is the clamp, i have repair it twice already. after some time it would not resist the pressure of sawing again the clamp it slips, the material comes lose and the saw will break. dismanteling the clampsystem welding the hole and drilling or filing will repair it. the more expensive one has a spindle to clamp, flawless.!

I have both saws except my bandsaw is just portable. I really want a bandsaw chop saw because it is cheaper to operate. One thing I can say about the evolution is it works good with coolant. I use a spray bottle and spray every 3-5 seconds and it keeps the temps down and helps make the blade last a bit longer. Thanks for showing this I might do the exact same thing cheers.

Just got this saw and I have used it several times, I made the mistake of putting cutting oil on the blade , it was oil specifically for cutting and drilling, not cooling really, but it at first made the drive wheel slip, funny though I eased off the tension and it sort of came back to life. I gave it a good cleaning up after with break cleaning spray.. the test I did was to cut up a drive shaft , I must say it sliced through it like butter, the oil smoked a few times but it was almost cutting under its own weight.. I think the vice cam if kept clean will be okay but perhaps a thread would be a more robust solution, but let’s face it , it’s a home use tool that is just a handy tool for the workshop. It’s not for professional use all the time. I give it the thumbs up..

Great review, I have a Milwaukee hand held bandsaw which I use in a stand and handheld and know how useful they are. This would certainly be up there as an alternative to a bigger floor mounted model when space is at a premium.. thanks Joshua

Iv just bought the lidl parkside tools equivalent to this so im glad u think its alright as iv not had the courage to try mine yet, although i did put it together and had to tighten the bolt of the arm as it was a bit of a wobbler.... But otherwise seems good.... Definitely gonna have to get me a basting tray now!!

Agree on the cut-off switch, not so much for safety but so you don't have to babysit the thing on thick cuts.

I've got a cheapy HF on a SWAG v3.0 and it works great. I was about to get that Evo for 500 and saw how much the blades cost. I'm just gonna get me another saw with a horizontal base, you can't beat the bandsaw blades. Seriously, $120 a pop on those blades and they last less than the bandsaws, forget it.

Interesting to spot this one in your back catalog, I have the 'aldi' version of this same saw from when they were selling them cheap. I wound up making a vertical stand for mine and designed a 3d printed trigger latch, and a little 'puck' that the handle fits over that made it very fast/easy to set it up on the vertical (both available on thingiverse). It hadn't occurred to me to try adding coolant for use with the table it came with, certainly an interesting setup I'll keep in mind.. Not sure if you're still using the tool a year+ on, after about a year of use the tire on the drive wheel of mine managed to come adrift and get itself wrapped around the axel and snap. It was a massive pain to source replacements so I wound up modelling the wheel/tire and making a 3d printed mold to cast a new one in rubber which is holding up well.

Good review Joshua. Looks quite accurate for a small machine big plus for hobby use is low noise compared to chop saw and it’s not spreading dust around ,add in the cheaper cost of blades also it looked like it got thru that fork tine easily. ? must have one

Just had this video pop up great vid i like the coolant idea i dont have a bandsaw but have used battery one's and a few corded the company i workfor hire in for certain things i personally have a makita 18v 150mm metal cutting saw this gets a lot of use very handy i use 136mm blades cheap ones on ebay also have a evolution 230 metal cuttins saw and a evolution 355 saw all great the 230 is a lump though i get most of the blades of ebay you can get good prices i put cutting wax on the blades seems to help

I have this saw and the only thing which sucks is the vice. After some time, it loses the hold and the rattling is inevitable. I have to modify it or make some different type of holding the piece.

Using a grinder with a cutting wheel takes a lot of skill to get it right, whatever the angle the cut is at. These bandsaws are more accurate and convenient of course, but there are times only a grinder can be used i.e. large box, large angle iron or I beams etc.. A skill noone can overlook really so don't 'write off' a grinder straight away for your workshop.

Thanks for the review. Is there any issue sitting the saw in the coolant? I know the water soluble cutting fluids contain rust inhibitors but just wondering if you've seen any problems after (I'm guessing) a few months?

The vice of these saws has been heavily criticised elsewhere. Mine does slip at times. The cam action is not the best design. Shame they never used a proper ‘screw’ vice. Overall I love my Workzone version of the bandsaw. It is identical. Great review 👏👏👍😀

Tuffsaws are excellant, I use their bandaw blades for my Joinery business and they are excellant quality. Scheppach use to be a name of quality in the Woodworking business but like many companies it's all made in China/Taiwan now. It never surprises me how many Machines are made in China using the old European names from once quality companies but Chinese quality (or lack of) rather than European quality. Guess people just want cheap rather than quality tools and machinery , look short term rather than longterm . Buy twice cry twice as they say. Really enjoying this channel since subscribing.. 🙂

Great vid! Question: How is the vise clamp doing after a year? And with the cooling fluid don't you have problem due to the saw blade can slides on the wheel/disk? Hi, super nice demo, i got a similar bandsaw, but i have a problem that the blade often jumps off the wheel, inside the machine, even if i fasten the band tensioner pretty good. Did you ever have that problem?

I have the evolution but i was building a gas forge so got an £80 circular saw for steel a few weeks ago its amazing went through 10 mm mild steel 18" across like a wood one going through 19 mm plywood , under a min easily , was contemplating a battery portaband but not sure i have any use for it , any reason you went plugged instead of battery ?

I had this model sent it back within a month. The blade wouldn't stay on, It wobbled like mad. Didn't cut square, when the blade flew off it took out the guide bearings. The drive wheels have bronze bushes not proper bearings which may explain the wobble.

Hi Joshua love your videos I have a similar workshop to you and bought the same bandsaw and I love mine,but when I added lubricant the blade slipped so stopped but I used wd40 have you had any slipping cheers Alan.

Is the pivot adjustable enough to open the saw up to 90 degrees and use the saw as a vertical band saw? Could you make a table to secure in the vice?

On my Parkside (Lidl) version the blade slips under any load! NB since the blade supplied was actually broken inside the machine I bought a box of Milwaukee blades of the same dimensions, it is those blades which slip - could there be some subtle dimensional difference despite being nominally the same size?

Sorry in advance if this is a blindingly stupid question - but do any of the metal 'filings' get carried by the fluid into the pump and ruin it? Or are they relatively so heavy that they settle out before reaching the pump?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's not advisable to using cutting fluid or coolant with these saws, as it will mess up the rubber tires on the drive and idler wheels. Though I do like your pump and tray design. I just have misgivings about long term condition of the tires. Full size bandsaw wheels are all-metal, so don't have that issue.

I have the same saw. The clamping gave up clamping after 2 weeks and the fact that the blade is cutting away from the fixed fence, is a idiotic construction failure! But yes: the blade is good.

Just bought one 🤞 I have a dewalt 355mm drycut but cutting any thick material just roasts the blade , so I bought a 250mm cold saw for doing solid stock .. blades are half the price of dewalt… only problem is it’s increadibly unportable 🤣🤣 . Fingers crossed this fills the gap 🤓 they’ve been out of stock almost since you made this video 🙄😖 .. just saw one pop up for under £200 and bought it🤪

hello, after 10 months of use, what can you say about the lubrication. does it damage the blade drive rollers? I have the similar model of the Parkside brand but the user manual advises against lubricating the blade. Thank you.

They made them for Aldi....even cheaper .

Unfortunately, blades don't last long with this saw, I've replaced 6 blades in 4 month since I've bought the saw. 5 of 6 blades were bi-metal 14/18TPI and one just plain M42, all blades have cracked and then snapped completely after 30-50cuts (last two blades made only about 15cuts) while all teeth were intact and as sharp as new, however, a non bi-metal blade indeed had lost some teeth afterall. The speed dial has never been set above 2.5 and feed has always been very gentle, so blades had never been even warm let alone hot. The only reason blades quit fast I can think of is that 14/18TPI blades don't like cutting thin (1.5-2mm) square pipe which has too thin walls for this tooth step. Maybe 24TPI blades will stay intact longer, at least I hope so.
