Thanks for sharing this spot. These birds are a species of concern , I think. They , of all similar species, are closet genetically to the extinct passenger pigeon. A large pigeon that in it's natural life has so far stayed shy and Leary of man.
They are SO MUCH prettier then Rock Pigeon cousins. Although i must say that the ancestral Rock Pigeon's purple green iridescent head. And gray body with black wing bar stripes is quite attractive.
I've been watching and feeding these guys for years now, and NOTHING attracts them like black oil sunflower seeds. I put out around 10 pounds a day and it's all gone the next morning.
