I think highlighting previous failed Gundam TCGs is a little ironic. Digimon has had a number of failed card games as well, but I have to imagine the current iteration is the most successful.
Gundam War and Gundam War Nex-A lasted between 1999 till 2015, with 28 main sets for OGW (Also some Sunrise-mecha-crossovers and 20 expansions) and 12 main sets for NexA, 6 ex boosters, and 3 "Nex-A Cycles" (A, B, C). There are still some LGS in japan that host tournaments and sell this 20 year old singles to this day (cardland-kamata, 193net, cardland akiba, hosting OP, DCG and old GW; quite surprised to discover this honestly). But then, bandai replaced all of this with Gundam Cross-War and that's the biggest flop I've seen in decades, lasted like a year. So I don't trust bandai is gonna make the right decisions but I wouldn't call Gundam War / Nex-A complete flops, it's sad that Bandai as a company doesn't care about making what they have last, and just move on and make money. I REALLY REALLY WISH bandai learned about what made Gundam War so long-lived and what made Gundam Cross-War so dead-on-birth to this new iteration. 🙏
I was ready to learn BSS if they brought all the Gundam support they had released in JP to the EN side. Unfortunately, it never happened so I never bothered. Hoping this new TCG is decent 🤞🏻
My problem isn't that Gundam is getting a new card game. Gundam is really cool, and i think it deserves another shot. The problem is Bandai. How many card games are you going to spread your team, prize support, and tournament support thin over?! Why does Bandai keep making a shit ton of card games!?!?!
There are two reasons I don't play Bandai cardgames. This and the way their powerscaling for digimon crept out most of the interaction between players that was so good in the game's early days.
Union is for simple minded people who are fans of popular anime. No big thinking, what ever anime you pick you don't have to think about any other cards to play, your slowly feed new cards for the deck, so it's simple to build. Decks full of anime screen shots VS original art. Don't care if the SRs are original 95% of the deck isn't
BSS did gundams but just alt arts and didn't help how the same set was genuinely trash. They learned their lesson and made a full Eva theme set which was actually good at least. My problem is that they barely say anything and they expect people to just trust blindly trust them All of this makes me less confident in playing anything from them if they're just gonna pump newer games and be negligent with their older ones
when sunday investors and flipper leave the ship, and also if players and collectors do not increase, the ship sinks and the LGS have a big loss. They need to promote better their current tcg. 😢
Bandai is stretching its development teams too thin. Bandai needs to kill off two of its current games for Gundam to survive, those being Battle Spirits and Union Arena.
I don't play DragonBall, digimon, one piece. I play mtg commander. I play flesh and blood, vanguard casually. I would give this gundam game a chance so long as it is primarily universal century aka feds vs zeon. IF it's based on the build series or woke witch from mercury, I will pass.
