If they trumpets start overpowering their woodwinds it will definitely takeaway that classical sharp clean sound woodwinds have It blends so well together. And I ain't saying no names but another band is definitely incorporating woodwinds more in their arrangements... and they should just go back to the old formula cuz it ain't it.

I feel like the trumpets get drowned out a bit by the rest of the band but if you hear them in person they do have a nice sound. Being so powerful on the low end hurts trumpets and woodwinds but I still love their sound as a whole

Agree. However he feels jsu trumpets are weak. I can clearly hear the trumpets playing blended notes. Jsu trumpets is done with screaming until someone comes along and give jsu trumpets a reason to scream. There are plenty of songs from this year where jsu trumpets rips including one song from this event during the fieldshow where jsu played swv weak. For a while I thought jsu trumpet section got weak until I saw more upclose videos of jsu trumpets pulling back from screaming.

And then again too I don’t think a lot of people realize that yes JSU is loud but they don’t play to be loud they play for Perfection and good quality

U have to be new to jsu/su. Jsu trumpets use to be known for screaming even shame su trumpets a couple times in the past prior to 2013. After 2013 jsu started to move away from screaming trumpets to allow the wood winds to be heard. This is why now u see a lot of comments on jsu woodwinds being loud and heard across the 50. Theres no way on earth that woodwinds are louder than trumpets. Its not even possible. Jsu doesn't allow its trumpets to be aggressive. Su trumpets never stops screaming as SU arranges 90% of its music around the trumpets. Jsu trumpets aren't competing with su or dega bcuz the bd arranges music to allow woodwinds which gives jsu a more distinct musical sound. This further differentiate jsu from su. Dega on the other hand shares jsu and su sound minus the musical piece. Alcorn does the same it just doesn't have the same numbers as dega. By the way alcorn and dega gave su the business before. Alcorn has given jsu the business before as well.

I would’ve done the same. Dega sounds great. Much better than previous years! But they absolutely have to work on their arrangements, phrasing, control, and execution. They’re getting there. Bands like JSU and SU have figured out their sound and Dega has to do the same. If you close you eyes and listen throughout the battle you hear a clear difference in the bands in those areas I mentioned.

@@AJ-kv8us gave them the win because they’re arrangements are generally trash… was very impressed with them in this battle in comparison to what Ive seen in the past…. Didn’t have to forward through degas songs… are they as clean and polished as the boom…. NO… just gave them edge because I was entertained by their song choice.

Those Girls over at Dega got on my MF nerves! I used to vehemently HATE J5 for dancing too damn much! I wouldn't care how clean or good they are, shit just didn't sit right, especially when it felt like they did more dancing than directing! I think I had to be the one they took them notes from cause I would comment bout that shit ALL the damn TIME! Now here go Sis and the Sissettes kick pushing every 27 seconds! Last I recall they were not only low volume on high brass, trumpets squeaking wrong notes, their Fraternity and Sorority were off step strolling, only relying on low brass and it felt empty. was their arrangement loud ? partially. Was there a clean sound? Sure because of the woodwinds. But at the end they all as a whole weren’t collectively confident in the song. Talladega may had a rough intro tuba wise but all parts were heard, and it was groovy, not chopped up.Simply put, dega may not have the time adversity that jsu has but they were confident and consistent.
