Tbh this was a pretty traditional 5th for PV. PV has evolved to fit the times by playing more rap tunes but PV has always been known for a diverse song book and colorful arrangements. They are for sure finding the balance between the two identities.
KB, you are about to have the Clark sisters come for you if you keep saying Mary Mary 🤣😂. By the way, your first deduction should have been on JSU drum section messing that drum break up. Sound like they were falling down the steps while playing 😂
The two classic songs were "You Brought the Sunshine" by the Clark Sisters and "Can't Hide Love" by Earth, Wind, & Fire. This was DEFINITELY a great battle and your assessments were on point!! I asked the SAME QUESTIONS about the BoomBox Classic every year, seems like they save the best for the rest of the SWAC when the best is across the field at BoomBox. Shout out to both bands.
PV has always been a beast!! and sound great ... this battle they sound and look fantastic. The color guard with the flags awesome ! (sets them aside), Black foxes dynamic as usual; I enjoyed both bands they bring out the best in each other period! Best 5th this year and zero quarter in my opinion
PVs flag line in the back gives the band a nice flare. Battle was decent. More bands should incorporate the flag in the stands. JSU had better musicianship.
PV ,sounded good & the song selection was good. But Jackson was on one. Everything PV came with they countered and sounded better .Jackson brought that 🖊️ game. And the power and balance was on point . And I was ruting for PV 😂😂
At 21:17 it wasnt a wrong note, it was a transition note going into the key change, and it was more than one person playing it. The real deduction was the whole section didnt play it.
I could barely hear PV trumpets during Just Fine. And the drum part you were weirded out from JSU is correct and sounds that way in the song "Can't Hide Love".
@@amirmclellan8097 Pv respond differently that what causes them to lose battles some of them songs in the zero should have Been played in the fifth. JSU Just Hit Period Playlist Finesse all damn day but I gotta give Pv props for just showing diversity but JSU Whew!
@KBTHABANDHEAD please know every song and the artist that performs per band. You did not know the artist to You Brought The Sunshine by the famous @Clark Sisters!! @TwinkieClark sang her heart out on this song!! Put some RESPECT On this song!! Great job PVAMU
I’ve never claimed to be a music encyclopedia so therefore I’m not going know every song or artist that is performed. I’m not perfect so… Thanks for supporting the content 😉
Prarie view was playing "You brought the sunshine by The Clark's Sisters" Not Mary Mary. They didn't started in the beginning. Listen to the Clark's sisters not song you will see how it started off
You Brought the Sunshine is actually the Clarke Sisters. I don't know Mary Mary remixed it. I've heard better arrangements of it though. One thing I would like to see is the BOOM have a killer gospel song to throw back. LOL you keep getting Earth, Wind, and Fire mixed up with Maze. The Mary J song is a no for me. They sounded like they were getting tired at times. I wasn't feeling Straighten at all either. I will agree that the current JSU staff has some games where they can do better with song selection, but this one was good.
Ummm they didn't need to play these songs for no Boombox Classic🤷🏽♀️why?? They saved them for the SWAC CHAMPIONSHIP when it's time to really show out with the opponent that earned a spot there too!! Come on now, you know this!!
I love your content, but just for clarity I want it to be understood that JSU‘s season is not summed up or defined by how well they perform against Southern University. You made a few comments about if they had this energy or if they played certain at southern then it could have been a different story. They played what they played, and still did very well. So stop making everything about how a band lines up with one particular band. It’s all competition all season long!
True a hold season is not defined by one game , but I believe he does that because he believes SU and Jsu bands are the two best bands in the SWAC. So ALL band heads were waiting for those two bands to go head to head. Also he believes that SU band won their battle, but that Jsu could have done better. They didn't bring their A game that game.
Now, we all know that SU and JSU are the top bands in the SWAC so... That's the game that matters the most to the BANDHEAD community. JSU season has been A++ but I just wish the song selection would have been a little bit better in certain battles. We all know the songbook is there but just call the right songs at the right time.
@@big33hurt U SAID IT. IS THIS EVEN THE SAME JSU BAND? DID THEY GET NEW MEMBERS OR JUST NEEDED THE SEMESTER TO DEVELOP SOUND CLARITY & UNITY. SO many other bands crushed them this year that never would have in prior years.
I agree with your scores the ladies was awesome on both sides shout out to PV flag team the best I've seen all year 🔥👏👏 at this time I'm ready to move on about who is the better band between Su and JSU both are the top two bands with different styles of playing both with alot of new members this year both had good and bad moments shout out to both Tube lines for holding it down👏🤭 can't wait to hear the growth from both bands next year 🤗🙏
You didn’t give Jackson State a deduction for the drum line on Frankie Beverly and Maze song, however you gave a deduction to PVAMU for the baritone section 😕😕😕
That's Earth Wind and Fire(Can't Hide Love), and that's how the drum break goes on one of their recordings of the song. The only critique I have is the Bass drums could move more alike on the song.
KB, I got a bone to pick with you on this one. How do you give PV a deduction for one wrong note, but you give JSU drumline a pass on "Can't Hide Love"? JSU drumline sounded like they was doing gospel chops. Like Boosie would say, Nah mane.
They just don’t have the horses to pull it off. Strong players matter and they’re really lacking. PVAM had a solid section back in 05-09 after or before they weren’t worth much.
See if you have not been to a TX high school or middle school then u won’t understand that we don’t get to to play rap songs and stuff and when we go to these black hbcu in Tx we don’t sound like Louisiana and Mississippi
Su didn't call for jsu to play the playlist it played for pv. One thing I don't like is that jsu don't believe in playing songs from the beginning of the season or some hit songs from the year prior that it didn't play against su or alcorn. I don't like it bcuz jsu could kill. Su will forever play perm. But jsu will not bring hits back. Im almost shock jsu play mobamba. I gave jsu the edge over su. Su didn't sound good when the head band director isn't directing. When the other BD directs, the sound is not clean and sounds somewhat cluttered. The only thing that stood out with su was the power song.
@@DeoKami yea I'm sure jsu knew those songs. Jsu don't bring back old songs. Jsu may bring 1 song from prior year and jsu never bring songs it played in the beginning of the season and play them later in the season. Jsu has lots of songs. There's a reason why jsu or su will take a zero or 5th qtr. If jsu was more aggressive against su and get more creative jsu would demolish su, until then it will be 1 su and year jsu.
@@DeoKami ok. If u say so. Jsu mainly bring back classics. Thats it. No head bangers. I never said jsu wasn't creative. They r but jsu could do a whole lot more to further separate itself. I rock jsu/su been watching and seeing them both for decades. Know enough about each to know their flaws.
You have to be joking. Almost everyone who did a review said JSU had a good song selection and sound. There were no mistakes by WT, and what does it have to do with only liking JSU or SU. Most haven't picked PV in the majority of their 5ths this year. So, now all a sudden KB is biased?
@@sspann11 It actually goes with the actual song, but honestly, I'm not a fan of it in the real song. I really don't likely off-beat percussion solos or break downs
@@KBThaBandhead no way I'm delusional I'm being honest. Just how JSU was just smashing on PV and at the end what happen bad song selections for JSU they had to let PV get one round.
