When I went "down the Pigeonhole", I found myself actually heading "up", following the Band-Maid trail all the way to the top, but I can't see the peak! Along the way, I got directions from a Ramen eating gorilla 🍜🦍 and followed a 810 year old Small Pigeon through exciting twist and turns. It must be an accidental word I want you to prove it properly I don't like it if it's short-circuited Touch and fascinate Let me believe you believe you believe you It's always important I can't cry because it's worn out The voice that spilled like this Will it disappear into a dream? I know she doesn't know I know I don't know Repeatedly passing each other Return to 0 again Still, still I want to do something Follow the trajectory of the two who walked It must be an accidental word I want you to prove it properly I don't like it if it's short-circuited Touch and fascinate Let me believe you believe you believe you The feelings are not bad In this way, the moment of blinking It overlaps and piles up and fades Even once that day I will never forget Not so, not ah Even if I wish, it won't come true Feelings that increase in color and become stronger I love you What should i do? What I couldn't think of it Even if it's not an inevitable encounter I can't be shaken elsewhere I don't want to listen to sad songs I want you to laugh You just trust me trust me trust me As it is, as it is, far away Until the sky falls (I can't go back to the past Nobody knows the future but I only know this You are my world) Because I am "I" Only one place to ask Instead, the scenery that doesn't look good Glittering world Taste both sour and sweet ah without waking up that is Even if it's not an inevitable encounter I can't be shaken elsewhere I don't want to listen to sad songs I want you to laugh You just trust me trust me trust me To the worldland Forever God, I want you to listen I don't want many others I want to be with you forever I want to connect for many years many years many years

Your writerly, evocative responses are very cool. Realizing you often have to actively focus on an instrument to really hear it puts you way ahead of most non-musicians already. A more detailed EQ like a graphic EQ might help hear the bass more in an immediate way, but might actually slow down developing the ability to listen for it. One thing about Band-Maid is that you almost need six listens to really "get" a song: one for each member's part and one to put them all together. Even for musicians it's hard to focus on just one because someone else distracts you with something interesting every few seconds. But Misa is a great focus as she's more obviously interesting than a lot of bassists.

@@kikistravelservice MISA is a good and bad bassist to listen to... Good, because she's incredible! She's busy, flying up and down the neck, hardly playing the same note twice... Bad, because she's going into higher octaves, closer to where guitars play so it will be easier for you to lose in the music. She is also so good she will ruin other bassists for you as you will find other bassists boring. I myself am a bassist, a pretty good one too, but I can't play a lot of what she does.. She's amazing and a huge reason why this band is so great. I'm glad that you're taking the next step and listening to each piece of the music to fully experience how great these ladies are! Nice reaction as always ☺️.. one thing about Band-Maid which I like, they never fail to put each member into the limelight in most of their songs, be it the bassist, lead, rhythm, drums, or vocals. Their music is structured as such that each of them have the opportunity to be focused on. For Wonderland, I see it as more vocal focused.

Dear MichelleSan, I'm quite late to your channel and your videos, so it is only now that I put out this reply. If you're using a computer especially, your sound system should typically have a Graphics Equalizer. In simplified terms: - 1. Range around 100 Hz - Bass 2. Range around 1 kHz - Voice 3. Range around 16 kHz - Treble (especially drums) Guitars and other strings are a lot more complicated, so I'll just say they span a large range across the whole spectrum but me thinks they can be heard primarily between 250Hz to 5kHz. I might be wrong on that one. So essentially, if you want to hear the bass, you could pull up the frequencies below and around 100 Hz. Similarly, if you want to hear the sharper sounds, you can pull up the frequencies around the 16 kHz. Best thing to do is to play a song and change the attenuation of the various frequencies as you see fit. Have fun playing with the equalizer!

If you want to focus on bass more, you should keep listening to japanese bands. It seems that the bass is prominent and very well mixed in lot of japanese music and their rock bassists seem to be influenced a lot by funk and jazz music. Also buy better headphones ;) And great reaction! "Wonderland" is one of my favorite (top 5 maybe) BAND-MAID's song, especially this live version. Their latest song "about Us" has magnificent bass lines too (and the guitars are quiet), "Play" live has a prominent funk bass and "DICE" MV is a song where you can clearly hear the bass heaviness. Finally, you have songs like "alone" and "YOLO" which have great bass lines that you can't escape, even with crappy headphones :)

You can hear how much they are growing as musicians here. They borrow easily from Jazz, Rock, Samba and even a little Rap, and it all works. Looking forward to Band-maid Fridays--there is certainly enough of their stuff on youtube for a full year! For hearing the bass better, it's just a matter of practicing at listening to music. I suggest listening to some classical music, with orchestras. There are lots of instrumental parts and classical music fans love picking out the different parts.

'Wonderland' is indeed a beautiful song that invites you to dream, thanks to Saiki's voice and the mood created by the instruments. I also often end up somewhere else in my mind when I hear the song, especially in this live version. :) And regarding your question about listening to a certain instrument, some people have already written it. In order to hear and distinguish the bass or instruments in general really well, you won't be able to get around a pair of good over-ear headphones. The little Ai... ehm, Earpods :) don't have the necessary 'sound space' to reproduce the low frequencies of this instrument. And until today, none of the manufacturers has really managed to solve this problem technically. But please don't get me wrong. For outdoors and on the road, the small in-ears are totally okay and I use some myself, but their big brothers will always win in terms of sound quality. When the shops hopefully open again soon, just go to your nearest electronics shop and test the bigger over-ears and compare them with the small ones. You will notice a difference like night and day. Apart from that, the Band-Maid live performances are all excellently mixed as far as instruments and voices are concerned. There are a few discussions about the volume of the individual instruments, but in principle you get to hear what you see. Misa with her bass is actually always on the left side of the stage, therefore you will hear her on your left ear. Kanami, on the other hand, you will hear on your right ear with her electric guitar and Saiki's voice is actually always pretty much in the middle. I think Band-Maid's sound technicians are doing an excellent job and deserve praise at this point. But now enough about the topic. As you might notice from my choice of words, I am anything but a music teacher. :) Have a great Day!

Don't use auto-generated subtitles, if any. They are like only 20% accurate, so basically all mumbo jumbo. Just note that Band-Maid did not incorporate actual CC in their music videos until only last year. It sort of started with The Dragon Cries in 2019, where the subtitles (in English) were burned straight onto the video. Anything before that, all the way back to 2014, have no proper CC at all. The band's management & the members themselves probably got critique & feedback that they truly need to have subtitles so that non-Japanese-speaking fans can more appreciate the song if the lyrics are in sync with the music & the video. Because just reading the lyrics alone that you found googling is ok, but it doesn't fully click in your mind when there is no music to go with it. You can still try CC auto-generated English by clicking on CC button, then click on Subtitle Settings & find English on the list. Also love the rose in your hair, to match the Maids.

Band-Maids most "kawaii!" reactor :) I look forward to Fridays with MichelleSan. If you do a reaction to the newest song "About Us" which i hope you do :) i just wanted to let you know that it's a love letter written to the fans, especially those most affected by covid, suffering from depressions and such, Band-Maid also had to deal with depression of not being able to see and play for the fans. it was written with the intent of being played live in front of thousands of fans after covid gone, but instead was sung in an empty studio with camera men and production crew as the live audience. Saiki gave a very heart warming speech before they sang it during the Feb 11 online Onkyu-Ji(concert). There are subtitles for the song and someone will provide Saiki's speech if you react to the song . it's a very personal song just for us, the fans :)

ABOUT HEARING BASS BETTER/MORE: MISA!!! I suggest getting some good headphones because the size of the speaker diaphragm does matter. In other words, bigger can carry bass (lower frequencies/Hz) more effectively. And although ear buds can be very good, a pair of headphones of the same quality will carry bass much better (comparatively). Look at frequency range of the headpohones. If you can get a set with the Hz as low as 12, they're probably going to be good for bass. Also, download an mp3 (or WAV or OGG, etc) file of the song you want, and use a player with an EQ on it. Bump some of the frequencies up on the low range. You'll have to dial it in, but frequencies between about 1k Hz and 50 Hz will help you hear the bass better. Only small changes are needed usually. Some of the players with EQs are WMP, VLC, Winamp, iTunes, Audacious, etc. Great video! I love your reactions :)

To listen to the bass you have to focus on the lowest tones. Don't worry anyways, some times I struggle to hear Miku's rithm guitar because there's too much going on. So yet another #Frimaid has gone already (too short 😭). It would be nice if you did a harder and then a warmer song, problem is you don't know which is which. If you want to get better at pick8ng out which instrument is doing what, you need to train your ear to hear the tonality of said instrument. The best way to do that is to learn to play that instrument. The second best is to listen to music that heavily features it. For bass, I recommend Funk.

In pop music, the bass plays heavily with the kick drum and their frequencies often get tangled up to the point where the bass is more felt than heard. Bass! Honestly bass can be hard to hear, it doesn't sit in the same "vocal" range that guitars and uh, vocals do, so our ears don't pick it out as easily. And it has to compete with the low end of the guitars, the kick drum and so on. The people mixing the song have to kinda carve out room for it, and they don't always do that, so it can be kinda neglected in the mix. And if it's playing the same thing as the guitars (not here but it's common!) it can be hard to pick out - you'd miss it if it wasn't there, but it kinda blends in. Plus the notes can be pretty close together in terms of frequency! So the melodies don't jump out as easily If you want to hear it better, decent earbuds or whatever (don't have to be amazing) and EQ if you can do that! It depends on what you're listening through, but if it doesn't really push the bass well, it just kinda sounds like it's not there. A straight "bass boost" ~might~ help, but it might just do the really low end. If you can EQ it, try messing with the 60Hz-ish range (the booty), the 125Hz-ish range (more of the warmth) and maybe the 1KHz area (the kinda growl and attack). If you play with those the bass guitar might suddenly get real obvious! I had to on the earbuds I use and it made a huge difference Other than that it helps to know what a bass sounds like on its own, so it's easier to pick out (especially the sound of notes being picked, or slap bass). I mean I play bass and it's sometimes hard for me to hear it in songs! Sorry for the info dump but hopefully something in there's useful!
