And today I understood that my 12th std physics textbook tried to teach both of these models without even mentioning them in jumbled fashion. Oh, how it was confusing.!!!
When overlapping of bands is occuring , since still there is forbidden gap then how electrons can easily move to upper level ? May b i m not visualising it correctly so please help me .
These are just schematics. In actual metals electrons with conduction band energy are free(not bound to their cores) which is not the case with electrons with valence band energies.
Uper band is half field called conductor band. there is a gap but we are not interested . Because for conducting current the electron not come from valancy band but from conducting band. Conducting band is not fully field
why half field ? why don't full filled? . imagine water in tank so if you give a different it always go from higher to lower potential , if it is completely filed for increasing or decreasing we have to cross the forbiden gap which required greater energy..
