My first attempt at a bandsaw project is a bandsaw box. Learned a a lot from the project mostly through trial and error. This was truly the first time I had really used a bandsaw and it helped boost my confidence and also helped convince me that often the only thing holding myself back, is me. I just need to start a project, even if it intimidates me and I am often surprised at what I can do.

I've had a bandsaw in my shop for about 5 years, and rarely use it. So, kudos to you on a project as soon as you got yours.

Thank you for posting this video. I have just gotten a bandsaw and began to have fun with it. But you definitely make me want to do a box really soon.

It is a nice looking box for a first try. That is meant as a compliment by the way. Just know it will get easier and result will be even better the more you do it. Thanks for a sharing your efforts with us.

Absolutely! Thank you for the good words. I need to make another attempt soon. I have a lot of scrap pieces that could be glued up and turned into something fun.

If you aren't a Jimmy Diresta fan yet, I highly recommend his videos. He does some crazy stuff with his bandsaw. Nice work.

Nice job on your first project, looks pretty nice! I bought myself a brand new Rikon 14 inch saw and tomorrow I will have it set up and ready to make some sawdust. I already have glued up a laminated block of oak so I am also going to try a band saw box project and see how it goes. I am starting out with a small 3/16 blade so I can try some tight turns. I haven't used a band saw since I was 16 years old in my high school shop class. You have inspired me to give it a go! I have subscribed and gave a thumbs up.

Thank you, video was well worth watching. Quick question, is the template really necessary if you can visualize what you want to cut out?

Did you sand or do anything after you the fronts and backs of the drawer before putting it back together?
@TheMakingLife
@TheMakingLife 6 лет назад
I mistakenly did, yes. I sanded the bandsaw front and backs before putting back together. What this did though was made my seam not as seamless. If I would have left it rough cut it would have fit back together much better. Most people wouldn’t probably notice, but I do!
@JustMe-ks8iy
@JustMe-ks8iy 2 года назад
How did you get everything so smooth and rounded?? Hiding your sanding equipment?? lol
@TheMakingLife
@TheMakingLife 2 года назад
Ha. More than likely didn’t think that people wanted to watch me sand stuff. Also was a long time ago, so I didn’t document as well either!

Love it! Just a question, you mentioned entry point to cut the inside out, but not sure what or how you did that, finished product looks perfect?
@TheMakingLife
@TheMakingLife 2 года назад
So basically you just position the workpiece so it’s flat on the front or back of where the drawer is and start cutting into the wood. You should have some type of template or lines drawn on the faces to match the shape of ten drawer you want. You’ll, then cut along those lines until you made a full pass. Turn off the bandsaw and when the blade is done moving you can back out the blade back to your original entry point and now pop out your drawer piece. You can glue the seam that you created by cutting the entry point and you’ll never know it was there. Thanks for watching!

What blade is best for this?
@TheMakingLife

Probably a 4 TPI 3/16” skip tooth blade would do well.

Hey, you can't mess up these bandsaw box's.. jump in there and give it a try?? If you mess it up just use it for fire wood ?? You have got to give it a try... Its fun ? Texas

Robert Smith just wanted a clean block to work with. Looking back, it wasn’t “necessary” but I think it helped my OCD, if that makes sense?

@@TheMakingLife . No problem , I did the same thing on the first boxes and then it come clear that all I was doing was wearing out the blade sooner than needed .Thanks for posting the video . Cheers!
@TheMakingLife
@TheMakingLife 4 года назад
Robert Smith you’re exactly right. It was all going to get cut off regardless, I just did it twice. I wouldn’t do it again like I did here with that cut.

What's the point of doing stuff you know you can do?
@TheMakingLife
@TheMakingLife 7 лет назад
Well, this was a first for me, so I can honestly say that I wasn't 100% sure that I could do this. But that's what I enjoy. Taking something that I'm not quite confident in and learning from it. Thanks for the comment!

peter shevlan enjoyment, relaxation, and everyone can improve upon their skills and craft... Or maybe you didn't hear him say that this was his first project on his new bandsaw! I think a bandsaw box is a perfect first project for his new toy!
