Thank you. I know it is an Ukrainian song. In addition to many Russian songs, in my collection, I have also Old Ukrainian, including this one. They are also very nice. The version I have, is with the same singer. I have the song at least 10 years, so the young singer on the stage does not sing it, just moving his lips. Anyway, the song is nice. I know also very good composers from Ukraine: Mayboroda, Shamo and Ponomarenko. I listen to their songs a lot. All the best.

A 25 year old who can get that low - and he did have to struggle a little - is amazing. My Father and Grandfather were both trained Oktavists and I remember my Grandfather going very low and you couldn't really hear the note but you could feel it reverberating through the air. It'll be great to see what Dmitry will be capable of as he grows into a fully mature Basso Profondo.
You should listen to some more Oktavist music! Pasyukov (I think I spelled it right) has even more incredible richness and depth, as does Glenn Miller. But this young man may also reach that same level, as he ages. Basso's usually are quite like a fine wine.
Ethnic Ukrainians live in the Kuban, and the Kuban and Don Cossacks come from the Zaporozhian Cossacks.

@@K_Alinka I said THE SONG is Ukrainian so as to clarify for those who don't know that it is not Russian. I'm happy for Russians to claim what is rightfully theirs but they have a habit of taking from others (Ukrainians in particular) and claiming it is theirs!
@None Ya What does Moscovia the old name for Russia mean? Most names for countries have a meaning. that is nothing new. Yes it is an old Ukrainian song because Ukraine too has a tradition and culture. In fact the words to the song were written in the middle of the nineteenth century.
@None Ya Ukraine as a self governing independent state didn't exist but the people who shared a language, culture and traditions DID. They are known as Ukrainians. Ukraine's territory was occupied by imperial states namely Austro-Hungary and Russia who had their own names for the people of Ukraine. However the Ukrainians have a DISTINCT IDENTITY which has kept them together although their masters, Russia in particular, would prefer that Ukrainians would be ignorant of their distinct identity from Russia. Hence it is VERY IMPORTANT to emphasise what is Ukraine's so Ukraine's heritage does not get masked/hidden as Russian or anything else. There were several new independent countries created in the 20th century, Ukraine being one. In conclusion it is very correct to clarify that the song here is Ukrainian and not anything else!
James McShane you said it didn’t seem real. Were you just emphasising how unbelievable this performance is or were you implying that it was playback and he wasn’t actually singing??
This is amazing such richness, beautiful people. God bless and keep them, may He make His Truth and light shine upon them and bring them His peace that passes understanding. this is my prayer for Russia, and Ukraine, and Canada, America and all the world. love from Canada.

1:05 A bandura is a Ukrainian folk instrument with a whole bunch of strings, and (correct me if I'm wrong, it won't be the first time) I believe the beautiful young lady at this time mark is playing one. Beautiful music full of feeling, amazing oktavist voice, incredibly handsome people, elegant clothing and last but not the least, giant dorito ukelele. This video is in so many ways marvelous!
Hahahaha dorito ukelele, i remeber now the advertisement. LOL You are right, fantastic voice, ensemble and singers! Also in the dorito ukelele! Some info: The dorito ukelele is the balalaika, which is marvelous instrument Russian/slavic origin… The bandura is the other one bigger with a nice hole from the resonance box and more strings. It expanded into other areas like the Spain as the name Bandurria (similar name), or/and laúd coming from al-ud in arab, in other areas kizara, kobza….probably this family comes from the greek pandura… but who knows Big hugs!
We do not see enough of the Kuban Cossack Choir on You Tube... Copyright issues, I suspect. But this is a fabulous organization... Many thanks for posting.
Right?! I wish there would be DVD's of their performances to buy! They are more authentic and proud than any other cossack choir I`ve ever seen.. I get goosebumps everytime!
Utterly mind-blowingly phenomenal; an all-round triple BRAVOS performance !!! And the soloist has everything: great voice, great technique (and great looks, too) !!!! 😯😯🙂🙂 WOW !!!! Added later: I am an 80 years old concert soloist and choirmaster, and spent decades trying to achieve such a clear low range. He has it all!! Also plaudits to the chorus and director. We see too little of him, but he is obviously a master musician. In all my years in music, I have to confess to be overwhelmed by this performance. Again, triple BRAVOS and best wishes!!!😃😃😃 (I had to sing the last passage up an octave: envious but admiring of this young man. 🙂🙂) I heard Monteur in his late 80's and the wonderful Stokowski at over 80 in Boston and later in London( all marvelously nuanced interpretations) Of course I am not in tha6 outstanding class, but like them, I'm aiming for 100, to make good music, and support the fine younger musicians and directors I may find, until God calls me home. I hope there is music in Heaven !!!

As a Finn I listen a lot of old Russian songs. Some tell me that I am "weird" when I listen melancholy music which is not actually melancholy for me. This kind of songs are power music for me. Bass singers from Russia are awesome as well as baritones and other type of voices. I love deep voice singers and I am sure that Dmitry will become an international bass singer. We lost Dima Hvorostovsky but his recordings and beautiful memory will survive for ever. Dima Seleznev as a bass singer will make an international carrieer. Kuban Cossack choir makes good job too. this is an old Ukrainian song. Regards from Finland.
The description told me that this video is about a deep voice, but never was I prepared for anything like this. Im almost hypnotized from the depth, warmth and clarity of this mans voice. And of course of his ability to go this low at such a young age. This is a truly great performance and more people need to see it!
«Взяв би я бандуру» - українська народна пісня, романс. Автором слів цієї пісні інколи називають Михайла Миколайовича Петренка. Це частково так, тому що лише деякі рядки з поезії Михайла Петренка збереглися в цій пісні, що стала народною.
Jeesh! How low can a guy get! Beautiful tone and resonense for such a young dude. And trill of his rolled R's were impressive. And that low D-flat! Hope to here more of this basso in the future.
This is a major gem in the Ukrainian musical repertoire. The Basso profundo soloist is 'quite exceptional, while the choir and instrumental accompaniment is admirable. This was performed in the truest spirit of Ukraine! BRAVO!
Wow, knew that last note was going to be something else from the pause and the way he was placing it, but that made my whole body shudder! Think whales and elephants could feel that from miles away, such an amazing sound! Thanks for sharing with us.
It takes the whole group to make a piece of music lie this. The octavist is absolutely superb. But the instrumentalists and the young ladies in the choir are all very necessary to make this work. Bravo! Slava Dmitry !
i am without words i keep on listening again and again and crying, this touches me deeply thank you for you stunning performance bas solist and all choir members this is so beautiful! Your music is so healing and so needed in this chaotic world now with the virus now. Bless you all.
What a voice!!! I have had the great privilege of seeing and hearing Dmitry and the Choir live. I cannot begin to explain how awesome that was and I listen to their music constantly. There are many clips of the Кубанский Казачий Хор on RU-vid to enjoy!
Absolutely stuning Dima!!! I just love your voice and waiting to hear more of your repertuare. You are a great talent and the world should hear you and I am sure will appreciate you. All the best to you (From Israel).
What a wonderful and rich basso profondo voice! I'm completely smitten by him and his perfected technique! May he be successful and happy throughout the musical journey that lies ahead of him!
I'm a bass-baritone and can't even come close to this young man's vocal range. I have always been fascinated by how low the male voice can sing!!! Russians seem to have a monopoly on low notes in their folk and classical music both in performance and compositions. I would love to examine this young man's vocal cords!! They must be massive!!
Watching this amazing performance I was so struck by his concentration. I saw him carefully inhale, pause, and then "sing" the last incredible note. Was that careful inhalation more for sustaining the sound or for the sound itself? or both? Is the length of the vocal cord (the uvula?) and breath control the key elements, relying on each other? The performer is obviously very large, but is that alone accountable for the length of his vocal cord (uvula)? Does age have anything to do with it as suggested elsewhere? (I sound like a three-year old, why, why, why. Well, I am, just older.)
