Bangkok 1965: Abandoned Vietnam War AND WW2 Army Vehicles

I went for a Sunday drive with my mate. He's 71 and doesn't much care for GPS - he prefers the old fashioned way of directions, memory and landmarks. He originally came to Asia to, ironically considering where we went to in this video, shoot Apocalypse Now (as an extra) in 1976 (Phillipines) and arrived in Thailand in 1977. He's always telling me about different, quirky, out of the way places, often motor vehicle related.
Anyway, we headed through the back streets of Nong Chok and perhaps went into Lam Lukka and Pathum Thani during the drive. We ended up somewhere near Rangsit at a large piece of land, fronted by what looked like large missiles aimed at the sky. I was also surprised to find loads of Vietnam War veterans; about 10 Army trucks, among other vintage vehicles and box cars, which have sat dormant for years - some probably since 1965 or 1975. If trucks could tell stories, I wonder what these have seen!!
***** UPDATE - Some of the vehicles are WW2 vehicles!!!!! The Dodge WC53 and WC54 with the winches on the front are WW2 vehicles, so they've been here for over 80 years!!!! WW2 vehicles were still abundant in Thailand during the Vietnam War and were well used a they were reliable,

Those are in excellent condition and wouldn’t take much to be road worthy again. I’d keep it as original just because there’s not much you’d need to do other than grease and seals. Those engines if original are simple and extremely reliable, you don’t need a computer to work on something that came with a book in the glove box to show you everything you needed to maintain and service it. I love the old military trucks of all nations.

Many of those army trucks you showed are built by Toyota. We had a few of them in our Navy motor pool in Siagon. They had weaknesses such as valves that burned easily and the 2nd gear in the transmissions liked to fail too easily.

OK, thanks... it seems they are Japanese built for the American market, as they are lefties and Japanese cars are righties. I should go back and pop the hood... it isn't far.

Those 4 wheeled trucks are Japanese. The crane is a US model (produced in or for Thailand,hence right hand drive). and is a M108,if it's just a wrecker truck (can't see it very well) it's the M60. Those style G742 series trucks were made by REO, Kaiser, Studebaker, AM General. I'm not real sure but I think that one is a AM General.but it's hard to tell the difference I don't know them as well as a Ford GPW or a Willys,but there would be a plate on it saying. Those drop tanks are made to look like a MGM-18 Lacrosse guided missile.

The vehicles are not WW2. Dodge like vehicles are Toyota FQ15 which are a Toyota knock off of the Dodge M37 of 1952. The Toyota FQ15 was made in Japan for use of the American armed forces and Japanese home defence. The engine is a Toyota F110, four speed gearbox with a granny gear and no low range. The diffs were a split design.
@JBWanders73

@@RONAEMVCS Thanks a lot for the info - it's great to know. So, they were more likely used for the Nam War, right? Thanks for watching
@RONAEMVCS
@RONAEMVCS Год назад
Yes, used by US forces and South Vietnam forces. Using Japanese manufactured vehicles to US specs kept post war Japanese economy going and helped save shipping costs of equipment. The FQ15 Toyota is a very rare vehicle today. A 6x6 version was developed and became the equivalent of the duce and half US truck. The cabin of the FQ 15 is almost the same as a Dodge M37 3/4 tonne truck, the the rest of the vehicle is very different to the vehicle it was based on. It's good to see some more rare Toyota's have survived.

The drones on display resemble the Ryan 147 Lightning Bug. The jet-powered drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were used for low-altitude photographic and electronic aerial reconnaissance missions. PS - Missile Park, located adjacent to Point Mugu Naval Air Station in SoCal has one on display along with 12 other missiles and drones plus an F-4 Phantom and and F-14 Tomcat.

The trucks in the video that you discovered were not us instead those were Imperial Japanese Army trucks I can identify them through the model and the words on the steering wheel these trucks were mainly used to transport troops and they were also used by engineers and motorists they were probably abandoned at the end of the war when Japan surrendered buy Japanese Army engineers the same thing can be said about Japanese tanks in the Pacific War once the war had ended

@@JBWanders73 yea no problem also has an honorable mention because Thailand and Japan were allies during the second World or it wasn't uncommon for Thai soldiers to use Japanese Army trucks tanks weapons and even submarines trucks were either abandoned by the Japanese after the war or they were used by Thai soldiers and then later abandoned after the the president of Siam has overthrown

Not Imperial Japanese Army vehicle. Considering body design and front, I think trucks is designed after ww2 or by Western army. Because Japanese army didn't design truck like those. Japanese army used Mitsubishi type94 truck, Nissan type80 or 180, Ford truck or GM truck which was manifactured in Japan.
